Why cant we have qualifiers like we had a few years ago then theres no arguements,if you qualify then you deserve to be there.

Oh screm what planet are you on?

This is run by the BSPA please don't come up with sensible and obvious solutions that make it simple for people who pay to watch the sport understand.

According to the site, the qualifying criteria is the 7 highest average teams (top four riders only) up to and including Saturday 14th June plus one wild card.

I make Newcastle the wild card from my own personal calcs - well they couldn't really make it Glasgow could they and they would probably have gone for the nearest local club who didn't qualify who would bring the biggest support I expect (thats what Golasgow did re the Pairs a couple of years ago)

Newcastle qualified as 4th seed on official averages and are not the wild card in this event - The wild card place is taken by Reading (therefore not given on the criteria of closest to Workington as the Rye House fans would like to believe!) The full line ups and official qualifying averages are below (courtesy of the Somerset Speedway Website)

Group A (team and individual averages in brackets)

Somerset Rebels (32.28); 1] Jason Doyle (9.59); 2] Emil Kramer (9.22); 3] Jordan Frampton (6.78); 4] Simon Walker (6.69)

Workington Comets (31.68); 1] Daniel Nermark (10.09); 2] Kauko Nieminen (8.69); 3] Carl Stonehewer (7.62); 4] Joe Haines [5.28]

Sheffield Tigers (30.40); 1] Andre Compton (9.32); 2] Ricky Ashworth (7.64); 3] Ben Wilson (7.16); 4] Joel Parsons (6.28)

Edinburgh Monarchs (29.68); 1] William Lawson (8.57); 2] Andrew Tully (7.21); 3] Matthew Wethers (7.00); 4] Ryan Fisher [6.90)

Group B (team and individual averages in brackets)

King’s Lynn Stars (32.08); 1] Kevin Doolan (9.94); 2] Tomas Topinka (9.14); 3] Shaun Tacey (6.75); 4] Rusty Harrison (6.25)

Newcastle Diamonds (30.51); 1] George Stancl (8.74); 2] Josef Franc (8.00); 3] Jason King (6.98); 4] Christian Henry (6.79)

Berwick Bandits (30.02); 1] Adrian Rymel (9.39); 2] Michal Makovsky (7.75); 3] Norbert Magosi (7.07); 4] Tero Aarnio (5.81)

Reading Racers (29.54); 1] Ulrich Ostergaard (10.16); 2] Mark Lemon (7.52); 3] Tom P Madsen (6.69); 4] Chris Mills (5.17)

Thanks for that skittle_face.

I assume they have taken the 'real time' averages and ignored all the interim/green sheet hoo ha stuff.

Reading as Wild Card DOES surprise me, it would be good to know how they were picked.

It seems to have been done the same way as qualifying tho ML - group 1 is those qualifying as 1st 3rd 5th and 7th, group 2 2nd, 4th, 6th and wildcard

Seems like a right Mickey Mouse event. Zzz zzz zzz zzz

You may think that my friend but I see it as a chance to see my Berwick Bandits take part in a meeting we dont normally.Id imagine there will be quite a few Bandits fans making the trip.

Correct - But it should be done as the GPs are decided in the Semis as 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th and then 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th.

Oh, I'm sure they're there on merit, I'd just like it to be explained to me and a few others HOW?

Because you got your figures wrong regarding Rye and Newcastle :P:D

Tai Woffinden - 9.50

Stefan Ekberg - 7.07

Tommy Allen - 6.52

Chris Neath - 6.39

= 29.48.

Therefore both Edinburgh and Reading have a higher total average than you.

not surprising the Racers are the wild card-we are at Glasgow on the sunday and the BSPA were ensuring the Racers didnt have to go all the way to Scotland as a one-off !

Good on ya, looking forward to my trip to Berwick in a few weeks time always enjoyed my visits there which is more than can be said for my trips to Workington. but thats another story.

Anyhoo, We spend most of the first 2 months of the season run qualifiers to find the trophy semi-finals yet this rather random selection of teams get to race in a SUPER 7 EVENT well, "whoopydoo". Bring back regional qualifiers.

So you will not be attending this Mickey Mouse event at Workington.

Yes you are very correct; I along with several thousands of regulars on this forum will not be attending. Now had the event be staged at a track less then 1 hours drive away from any major city. I’m sure many thousands of forum members may have attended regardless of the teams involved.

Couldnt agree more, cuts out anyone asking why their team isnt there.Always a popular meeting in the north but not so popular in the south.Need I say more.Remember we used to have Edinburgh then Berwick in consecutive nights,Glasgow and Newcastle all in one day.

 I'm shocked if they have actually taken fans into account!

makes it a better option for the Racers fans and hopefully a few of you will make it to Glasgow on the Sunday, I'm sure you'll all be made welcome :)

It was always the case that thwetop 7 qualified (as is the case) and the wildc ard was there to make sure the home team were in it, if they qualified as a top 7 team, the team in 8th got the other place. Looking at how close the 7th and 8th teams are, that seems to be the case.
