To be exact, George rode for Wolves 1972-1977 and 1979-1980.

And just to fill in the gap he rode for NL Oxford in 1978.

Can also remember him riding for Glasgow during their last couple of years at Hampden Park.

Yes he did, around the same time as Olsen and Gary Peterson if memory serves me right.

I remember he rode in a team there with Jimmy Mac ,Finn Thompson ,Liefe Berlin( forgive the spelling) and John Jackson( who I spannered for) doubling up from Elle/Port,George was a true gem and told me many stories of 60's s/way.He was tough but fair rider on many occassions team riding Jacko home. He told me he wanted to ride for ever as it was better than working for a living ,this was borne out by the fact some said he rode a couple of years too long.

Did he ever ride for Motherwell-or was that before his time??

Started his career at Motherwell in 1958 and I believe did 2nd halves @ B.V. (not sure if he got any team rides) before becoming a Monarch in 1960.

If anyone has Backtrack issue 8, it contains a 2-page interview with George Hunter by Richard Bott in 1998, a year before George died of cancer.

George said riders were much harder in his day, and was very critical of modern riders ... "some of them fall off if you breathe on them. They must have Equity cards the way they do the 'dying swan' bit"

He was a great Mark Loram fan, though (aren't we all?!)
