Looks Like A Record

Recommended Posts

we are the londerners, well now move out to buy cheaper housing, 12 of us go every year and have done since Hackney, but sadley only go to about six meetings a year, would never miss cardiff, always make a long weekend of it, never buy a prog, not realley sure who rides for who now as speedway riders ride for anybody, guests and other countries, but still think it is great, the weather cannot spoil this fixture, one thing if you took all the polish fans away from last nights gate and people like myself yes it would be intresting to see how many real week in week out fans go....

strange two meetiings Somerset and Cardiff both made exciting and controvercial by the ref.....

Certainly did not look that many there, I would have taked 10k of that figure.

I'd have said 40,000ish was about right.

I can still hear the air horns going off now

anyone who says it was a full house last evening must have been hallucinating

I read a story last night that says at the millennium stadium, the stadium capacity is as follows:

62,500 for the Speedway.

74,500 for other sporting events such as fa cup final, wales home matches etc etc :)

Comparing it to the last couple of years that I have been I thought it was pretty quiet, especially out on the streets, and their definately did not seem to be so many people about.

It certainly wasn't capacity. The price of the tickets is responsible for that. I appreciate it costs to put it on but if they were a bit cheaper you'd probably more or less fill it up. Also needs advertising better. Billboards in cities up and down the country. It's the neutral sports fans we need to get in, the type that will go to Rugby and Football and Cricket finals.

Of course it wasn't capacity! How can it be with empty seats?

The BBC website says 45,000 were there. Guess we will have the official atendance in the next day. I thought it was a bigger crowd than last year. The reason the pubs were not as crowded as last year is simple. It was pi%%ing down last year and everyone stayed inside the pubs to keep dry. this year it was lovely and the streets were very busy.

My ears are still rining though. Wished they had opened the roof a bit more to let the noise out!

Must admit that I was sat in a different place in the stadium this year so maybe my view around the stadium was not as good as previous years, but I still think that there was more people last year.

You obviously were lucky, for the past few years i've been i've always been surronded by londoners that haven't got a track to go to. Work it out, how many people go to speedway on a regular basis? how many regulars dont go to cardiff? and believe me paul the sums speak for themselves.

"Londoner" here. Or suburbs at least. Give me a track to go to, and I'll go

Can't go week in week out, but can be seen at Reading, Somerset, Rye House, Mildenhall, Eastbourne, and Weymouth, Sittingbourne and Lakeside from time to time.

Put myself firmly on the fence, between the leave our speedway alone, would rather be part of a cult in crumbling stadiums, with anoraks and badges for merchandise and the smiley, gleaming grand prix, occasion type of speedway fan.

Personally I love nothing more than a sun baked afternoon / evening watching the nitty gritty at Reading, Mildenhall, etc.

However last night was my 8th in a row at Cardiff, and once again it was one of the best weekends of the year. How do the Poles and Swedes feel about GP? League racing doesn't seem to suffer in those countries. Are we being typical insular islanders?

42,187 is the official figure and according to that this year was indeed the biggest (official) attendance ever at the British SGP.

I would go along with that figure. One thing that did strike me this year was the increase in the numbers in the top tier along the back straight but some empty pockets on the lower home straight and 1st and 4th corners. More people choosing cheaper seats. :approve:

:blink::blink:
