barrow boy
I would like to invite your views as to how, if it was your decision, would you decide who is invited to be GP riders. I will start the ball rolling by suggesting that in future the 15 riders could be decided as follows:- 1) 4 riders to be the national champions of the nations that reached the previous year's SWC final. 2) 6 riders to be the next others in line from the previous year's GP series. 3) 3 riders to be the top 3 from a GP qualifying competition 4) 2 FIM picks. ballinger
I would like to see each GP contain a line up that includes the top 10 from the previous GP, 1 wildcard, 1 FIM pick, plus 4 entrants from a Friday night qualifier staged at an alternative venue in the GP country. The FIM pick could be a man in form, a local favourite, or even a rider injured in a previous GP and now fit to return. The Friday night qualifier would include the bottom 5 from the previous GP, 3 wildcards, plus 8 entrants who had submitted an entry fee to compete. Under this method, a rider who was in form and fancied his chances could have an immediate go at competing with the worlds best. The following years GP would then begin with the top 15 from the previous years overall classification plus 1 wildcard. It's quite an interesting option IMO.
AndyM
First I'd call a halt to the existing GP circus altogether. Then I'd have a completely open qualification process whereby each country selected a quota of riders based on whatever criteria they wanted to apply. Barring seeded riders, all would compete on an open draw and qualify for the following GP series. Thereafter, the process would be repeated with only the top 4 from the previous year being guaranteed places.

Similary, barrow boy, How is your idea any difference to present? Only difference being you have a closed shop therer as you have basically said the top 10 GP riders stay in and as a result the FIM/IMG have less places to pick from. I don't see the probalem with the current format myself. People complained about wildcards when they first introduced them, the 2003 World Champion was a wildcard. Thanks SCB for taking the time to respond. I don't know who the Polish champion is but if it isn't TG then only 2 of the 4 national champions at 1) are currently in the GPs namely NP who I presume is Denmak's and SN for GB. What would happen is that Chris Holder would get in by virtue of being the Australian champion. Providing TG is not the Polish number one then the next 6 at 2) may be LA, JC, TG, HA, GH & FL. The top 3 at 3)could all be new faces or the return of some old ones and the 2 picks at 4) again could be newcomers. So all in all I think it is different to the present system. Whether it would be fairer or change things much I don't know but it was just an idea for discussion, the same as Pete's is.
Subedei
Current Polish champion is, of course, Rune Holta.

Subedei
By the way, I think you'll find Hans Andersen is the current Danish champion, not Nicki P.
