LEJONEN - INDIANERNA

 

The league leading Lions takes on 9th placed Indianerna, and even though the home side starts without Chris Holder it feels like "Mission Impossible" for The Indians, surely they won't be able to do something that neither Dackarna or Elit Vetlanda did, to win in Gislaved. Indianerna signed Jesper B Monberg in the latest transfer period but he wasn't registred when they nominated their line-up on Thursday evening. He will likely take a place in the line-up, but instead of who?

A win or loss makes a lot of difference for both teams in "no mans land", a win will mean fighting for Play Off while a loss could mean a struggle to avoid relegation. Anyway, the home side is mssing Emil Sajfutdinov but Kenneth Bjerre is back in the team after missing some meetings due to injury. Piraterna are at full strength and have done reasonably well in Avesta in 2006 & 2007 and may do it again, but The Pirates are a nightmare to predict.

DACKARNA - HAMMARBY

 

Both teams at G&B Arena are missing a key rider, the home team are missing Fredrik Lindgren while the away team lacks the services of the injured Tomasz Gapinski who scored 13 points in this meeting last year. Niklas Klingberg steps in from partner team Örnarna but will - of course - have a hard time to match Freddie's points scoring and overall Dackarna seems to have some possible holes in their team, I wonder if Hammarby could used it to their advantage? However, they could also miss the services of junior Kim Nilsson who crashed in Rye House on Sunday, his presence is doubtful for Tuesday.

SMEDERNA - ROSPIGGARNA

 

Bottom of the standing Smederna were highly active in the latest transfer period as they signed three new riders, and the Slovakian junior Martin Vaculik will be the first one tested by the management, as a replacement for the out-of-form Rory Schlein. Smederna have lost two of three home meetings so far and can't afford another one, while Rospiggarna can ride a lot more relaxed, being 8 points ahead of Smederna in the standing already. It could possibly be the desperation of the home side that tips it over to their advantage, they simply need it more, if the second strings and/or reserves deliver the goods alongside the heat leaders.

VÄSTERVIK - ELIT VETLANDA TV-match

 

The Canal+ meeting from round 8 is broadcast from Västervik on Tuesday night, a re-match of 2005 and 2006 finals with each team winning once.

 

Västervik have been hit hard by injuries so far this season but are back at normal strength, with Grigorij Laguta scratching Tomasz Chrzanowski from the starting line-up. Elit Vetlanda have also had some problems but are also at full strength. Ales Dryml, a three season veteran for Vetlanda in a previous stint, starts at reserve in his first meeting back with the club. It's a hard meeting to predict as each team have won twice and drawn two times in the six latest meetings during three seasons in Västervik. A highly interesting encounter can be expected!

Thanks as always for the preview Anders. I'm interested by your comment as to Dackarna potentially struggling. I follow their results more closely than others because of the large number of Wolverhampton links and it just springs to my mind that were that team to turn up in the British League (albeit the points limit wouldn't allow it) then it would have the beating of everyone else! Are there certain riders who struggle more than in other countries?

Dackarna haven't had much of an away form so far. The reserves of Ludvig Lindgren and Andreas Bergström have actually averaged more away from home, though just slightly, but the top five have significant drops in their away averages and haven't been able to win meetings for them, except the Smederna one.

 

My team (Elit Vetlanda) have also tried a top heavy line-up in previous year and haven't had much success either. If nominating a top heavy team, all the star riders must ride to their maximum capacity, and that hasn't happened.

I am a bit surprised anyway, because this year's Dackarna team actually do have a stronger tail than previous versions of the top heavy Elit Vetlanda team. They should've done better so far, even though they shouldn't feel ashamed by losing away to Lejonen and Elit Vetlanda...

Dackarna certainly look strong on paper, and even though they are top heavy, with the top four that they have you have to say they are under-performing.

 

The tv match looks like it could be a cracker, especially with the form Laguta is in. Vastervik look quite strong, and yet they are not doing very well in the league.

 

 

"The Lions" are really going well, can they keep it up and go on to win the league?

I think one of the isracing.net posters did the math on this early on in the season and totalled 16 Swede's in the Elitserien. Thats out of 56+ total.

 

That's better than in Finland though, since last year we didn't have a full field for our national final.

It is terrible really for youngsters,not only in Sweden,but almost everywhere.Sweden is one of the countries we think of having a good youth system.But one wonders why we now have so few quality riders.Is it because there are so few riders to choose from?But the pool of riders will always shrink if you are always giving places up to riders who ride in 3,4 or 5 leagues.Chicken and Egg situation in a way.

After a slow start to the season, the Pirates are finally rolling. After four straight losses, the last four meeting have ended with three wins and a lost, moving them up in the standing.

 

It was a close one for long, 35-37 after 12 heats, but as Grzegorz Walasek recorded two maximums in heats 13 & 15 with Balinski and Nermark respectively, the meeting was won for Piraterna.

Elit Vetlanda started the Canal+ meeting very well with a tied result after four heats, 12-12, but it went way downhill from there. Västervik were hotter and passed Elit Vetlanda riders left, right and center in a very entertaining meeting even though it would have been more entertaining if it hadn't been just Västervik producing the passes...

 

Ljung made a mistake in heat 5 in the chase of Ekberg to let Pedersen through for a maximum in heat 5. Iversen and Harris team rode to keep a faster Hampel out of the lead in heat 6 and Laguta/Pedersen outmanouvered a lonely Lee Richardson in heat 7. Three straights maximums killed this one, the home side were far better in all aspects even though Elit Vetlanda riders helped the home riders with some less than impressing riding.

For Västervik,

Laguta is the find of the season on a 5.00 average, a steal! Pedersen was red hot and looks to be in good form in the Swedish league. Iversen didn't do much this time. Harris was outstanding, extremely fast and worth it all. Gollob wasn't particulary impressive and had a typical retirement in his last ride. Forsberg didn't make a gate all night but fought his way through for the points, superb performence. Ekberg gated once but was rather unlucky throughout the whole meeting and took a nasty spill in his fourth ride but have AFAIK escaped with no broken bones. Andersson only had one ride, won't judge him on that.

 

For Elit Vetlanda,

Hampel was worth much more, rode his heart out even when he didn't score but was blocked by both home and away riders at times, unfortunately. Jonasson fell, remounted and retired in his first and never got going, surprised to see him in heat 15 and equally surprised to see him score in that one, but well done! Richardson was the pick of the away team, always in the action. Ljung looked rather fast, for extremely little reward. Holta has been better, that's for sure. Davidsson flew from the gates and collected some fine points, should get even more chances in upcoming meetings. Dryml messed up on first/second bend a couple of times so didn't do much for point scoring, but I'll give him more meetings until final judgement 'cause he's better than this.
