Guest Sir Lunchalot
Been sittin' on this for a ******* Week!! Ho Hum - any news of a qualifier in Newcastle?

Hey Lunchy, How's about a lift from Milly ta Gilly?

We didn't get in TOO much trouble last time did we?

No problem with a lift BFD. Hope its not 42 degrees like last year, that was a bit warmish no matter what Bryn says. I don't know what happened, I was hoping for trouble but it passed us by. Fingers crossed for next year hey ?

I don't know what happened last year,

That'd be right - maybe if I showed you some rather interesting photos  your memory might improve dramatically!! :blink:B) Very Athletic, Lunchmeister!! :P

Does anybody know why there is no round at Sydney Showgrounds? This seems to be the reason why Tapp left, so something must have happened ?

I should imagine all will be explained in next week's Speedway Racing News, Bavarian.

Australian Solo Championship On Track

Gillman Media posted Tuesday June 24, 2008.

Organisers of the 2009 Australian Solo Championship are hoping to feature the best line-up of Australian riders seen for many years.

This season's Championship Series is being organised by representatives of the three staging tracks - Newcastle (Graeme Boyd), Mildura (Gavin Sedgmen) and Gillman (Dave Parker) - and Motorcycling Australia's Speedway Commission Chairman (Ivan Golding), and already is creating a lot of interest amongst the Australian riders in the United Kingdom.

At the moment, Gavin Sedgmen is in the UK speaking to as many Australian riders as possible, giving them the option to enter for Australia's most prestigious Solo Speedway event.

"For the first time in many years, the promoting clubs are pooling their resources together" said David Parker. "MA has kept the fees as they have been, which is great news, and we as a group are investigating the possibility of getting a shipping container to get the riders' bikes from the UK and return, a major expense to riders these days".

This move has attracted interest from the riders and Perth's Steve Johnston said "I would love to ride in the Australian Solo Championship every year but the cost involved in not just getting my bikes to Australia, but then all the way across to the East coast is prohibitive. This makes it a lot more attractive and I will look into the Series a lot closer".

The three round Championship will start in New South Wales at the Newcastle Showground on Saturday, 3 January then move west to Victoria's Mildura Speedway on Wednesday, 7 January before the final round at South Australia's Gillman Speedway on Saturday, 10 January.

The Championship Series being over just eight days should also encourage the International riders as they will not be intruding into their "summer break" from the UK and European seasons.

Anyone wishing to be a part of the Series in a corporate capacity can contact the promoting venue Promoters, Graeme Boyd 0418435235, Gavin Sedgmen 0448252015 or Dave Parker 0403364658.

Night before the first round, but only if needed, should be Interesting to see if many of the Aussie O/S riders take up the offer!

Going to have to wait a long time before the line up is released. or are you sworn to another vow of silence

Productive Discussions On Australian Solo Championship Series

Gillman Media posted Monday August 4, 2008.

"A very productive meeting between representatives of Motorcycling Australia (MA) and the Promoters of the three venues staging the 2009 Australian Speedway Solo Championship took place at MA offices in Melbourne on Sunday, 3 August.

The finer points of staging the Championship were discussed and major headway was achieved.

Firstly, the dates already released were confirmed as:

Round 1 at the Newcastle Showground on Saturday, 3 January 2009

Round 2 at the Olympic Park Speedway in Mildura on Wednesday, 7 January 2009

Round 3 (final) at Gillman Speedway in Adelaide on Saturday, 10 January 2009

With the great depth of young riders now racing in the UK, Europe and Australia, MA now has around 60 riders to consider for selection, with a dozen or so competing in the overseas Elite Leagues, 30+ in the lower Leagues and around 20 promising young domestic riders.

With so many talented Australian riders available, only Australian riders will compete in this year's Championship, and a Qualification Meeting will be held at the Central Coast Speedway in Gosford on Friday, 2 January 2009, the night prior to the first round at Newcastle Showground, to determine the final line-up of riders to contest the Championship. Around 6-8 riders from a 16 rider format are expected to progress into the Championship rounds.

Riders will be contacted by MA to find out if they wish to nominate for this season's event, but it is also recommended that riders contact MA as soon as possible as MA does not have current contact details for some riders.

All riders wanting to compete MUST confirm their participation by 1 September 2008 (contact Motorcycling Australia's Speedway Commission Chairman, Ivan Golding on 0417138378 or e-mail ivangold@sa.chariot.net.au) as the Promoters have taken the extraordinary step of supplying a container for the riders to bring their bikes to Australia and return to the UK. The container should leave England no later than mid-October and be back in the UK ready for the start of the 2009 season.

MA is also looking at a slight change in the race format, with the 16 rider, 20 heat format used, but instead of the top four going into the final, three will automatically qualify for the final, with the next four highest scorers going into a semi-final from which the winner will also going into the final.

MA and the promoters are doing their best to make this year's Championship Series a fantastic success - now it is up to the riders to show their desire to win their National Championship."

Here's hoping something's been done about the Viewing arrangements at Gosford; plus of course a deal with the Rain Gods!!
