Wessex Wanderer
I think he was a local lad so that would make him English. He may have been the one to switch to go-karts and became national champion but that is all from memory only.
BobC
Definitely ENGLISH! You are right Wanderer,he did go on to become British Champion in Karts. I remember one night at Halifax.hHe rode at reserve for Poole. After taking advice from Eric Boocock,he tried different things in the second half, and promptly got to the Final. Not sure from memory, but I THINK he came second. Immensley talented, and would have stayed in Speedway, but the Knotts wouldnt stump up any cash to help him set up,and he returned to Karting. Tracy Bird
got a feeling he was born in malta.started at the training school at matchems ringwood in the early seventies alongside martin yeates, len davis, steve lomas, geoff swindells, russel foot ,brian chaldicott amongst others.he was the best rider out of these and would have been a quality rider. Graham
There was an interview with Buttigieg in the now-defunct Automobile Sport magazine back in 1983. I've still got it somewhere and I'm sure he mentioned injuries as the reason he quit speedway. A bit like Barry Lee in that he's an ex-speedway rider who found success in another form of motorsport. Won the European Superkart title four times. Graham.
