spook
But Sullivan's a better rider than Watt and you named Watt. is he? Certainly once upon a time... in fact once upon a time he was the world number 2............... for me he is in the pepe protasiewicz bracket....... can be as good as anyone on his day and can still do a job but has slipped from being world class now The point I was making Sub was to compare the class of the teams and to illustrate the size of the issue for GB now for anyone who is still under the illusion that we are anything other than a sinking ship I would like to nail the point home with a jackhammer but I dont have the British League/Elite League averages handy for the last 25 years to show the gradual decline
gaptooth
Blood those youngsters this year, we are not going to win anything this year, so get some mileage in those youngsters. Kennett Woffinden Allen King Wright. It`s the only way to go, might be useful to have 1 older rider in the team. Fraggle Harris is not exactly past it is he? Rico isn`t going to improve on the world stage and sadly I don`t think Scott will either.
Subedei
is he? Poland: http://sportowefakty.pl/img/_tmp/stateliga08.htm Sullivan at No 8, Watt at No 28. Sweden: http://web1.sportowefakty.pl/images/statelitserien2008.htm Sullivan at No 22, Watt at No 46.
spook
Subedei to be quite honest i'm not interested ... nit pick with someone else please........ you have an opinion ... so does everyone The much greater point is that there is something Jim Lynch can do to help for future years, that people being in denial isnt going to help, and that some very solid and attentive help is required from the powers that be with both policy and structure to help slowly solve this problem
wjm
Under the circumantces there isn't much else he could do. 12 men some may not get a rider but its an incentive for them , gives them some thing to aim for get some of they lads in there and let them see what its about. Its nice to see some one like Lawson get a bit of acknowledgment for his hard work as well IMO. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that , Team GB is going to take time and work it may get allot worse before it gets better , but it isn't going to get better having riders like Howe and Stead in there for ever They should still be included at this point, but at least there is a sign there that some one is willing to put the bricks in place to build from it
Fourentee
Blood those youngsters this year, we are not going to win anything this year, so get some mileage in those youngsters. Kennett Woffinden Allen King Wright. Blood? Carnage would be nearer. It's hardly going to improve their confidence if that team gets massacred. Put one or two in, by all means – fitness permitting I would go Nicholls, Harris, Richardson, Kennett, Woffinden – but the idea is also to qualify if possible, is it not? Trees
Yes I would have thought so re qualifying, the competition promoters wouldn't be too chuffed if we didn't hahahahahahaha, after all they make sure we're racing in the GB qualifier so we have as much chance as possible! Paulco
Face it people . With the final being held at the super-slick , gating tart headquarters ( Voyens , Denmark ) . Does it matter what team we , or the rest of the countries send , we're only racing for second behind the Danes on an Ole Olsen prepared track . tigerblues
At the end of the day it's still a competition to represent our country and all riders should be extremely proud to do so, tbh Nicholls as the British champion in my eyes deserves to be there and then I would go for Bomber and Richardson if fit. Olly Allen at Coventry would be my next choice (if he's fit?) but absolutely any team I was taking to the world cup regardless of track would include Tai as I think he deserves his place and deserves the chance. Fair enough he might not get a maximum, he's an intelligent lad though and he'll just gain from it. Simon Stead is an interesting one, personally I don't think he would justify his inclusion but maybe at Coventry Lynch would fancy trying it. Personally I'm not exactly queuing up to join the Edward Kennett fan club but he's doing alright for himself and I would probably give him a chance if Rico is not fit, but for Coventry my team would be: Nicholls Bomber Rico/Eddie Tai Olly Allen? BUT, as previously mentioned, all 12 should be in the pits with the team regardless of whether they're riding or not just for the experience. Might teach them a thing or two and let's face it, we might not all rate them but the Kennetts, Wrights and Bridgers of this country are what we have for the future. Craig Mc Cracken
How is the World cup drawn ? I mean how do they designate the countries into the Qualifying meetings ? I ask because It looks to me like Team GB have been given yet another lifeline with being drawn into the coventry meeting like last year, as I think if this was not the case we would have no chance to qualify for the final. It's as if we have to be in the final as we support one of the biggest supported leagues in Europe with the fan base it carries means money. I'm all for it but on reflection we are not one of the strongest teams and my fear is IF we qualify for the final, representation will be there (league wise) but again the wooden spoon looms. Silver Bee
You put Allen in the world cup team with the final at a super slick Vojens. Only gater we've got after Rico. Edited June 4, 2008 by Silver Bee
Hazzman
With that first team Rob, I don't think you need worry about the 2nd team . I'm with Star Lady and Spook. Blood those youngsters this year, we are not going to win anything this year, so get some mileage in those youngsters. Kennett Woffinden Allen King Wright. Personally I disagree. Let's secure qualification to the main stages of SWC 2009 before jumping the gun and then experiment at Vojens. If the final next year is at Coventry, we need a favourable draw and ranking for an easier qualifier because I can see us struggling at a Semi-Final without home advantage and that would scupper any plan. 21st century heathen
It would be crazy to put Tai in, although I would take him along to be generally involved and pick up experience that way. Jim hinted that he wants to go with horses-for-courses. I would suggest that the team all-but picks itself. For Coventry... Scott Chris Lee Olly as dead-certs, with either Simon or Ed. If we make the p/o and final there may be a case for Olly out and both Simon and Ed in.
spin king
I say stick the lad in, he keeps on proving himself time and time again, and he is the type of rider who learns very very quickly.
Najjer
It would be crazy to put Tai in Ermmm why? Finished 3rd in the British Final ahead of Chris Harris who he beat in the final. From what I can remember and think of, that would of been Tai's first time riding at Swindon. He was right on the pace and has even scored well whilst riding in the Elite League this season. Give him a try
