Chris
12 man squad announced for some reason: Nicholls Harris Rico Kennett Woffinden Stead Howe King Bridger(If allowed abroad) Allen R/R Wright Lawson(Scotland) Why waste time naming a squad of twelve? Dear me there is some crap in that squad. Does Lynch really need to think long and hard about the team? Even a plonker like Lynch can see the five must consist of: Harris Nicholls Kennett Rico Tai

Subedei
So if the marvellous bleeding IMG WTC qualifier is at Coventry this season and the race off and final there next season when are we gonna have a fully fledged test match there? I just don't understand why Lynch persists in believing the SWC race-off and final will be staged at Coventry next year. BSI (IMG) have a signed contract with Leszno to stage the 2009 SWC race-off and final on their track: http://www.crash.net/news_View~cid~19~id~137758.htm To make it clear, it says: BSI and Unia Leszno today announced a three year deal for the Polish club to host seven world championship speedway events. The contract, that was signed today, means that Leszno will promote five FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC) events and two FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) rounds from 2007-2009. The Leszno club will host and promote the following meetings: 2007 FIM Speedway World Cup Race Off and Final 2008 FIM Speedway Grand Prix - one round FIM Speedway World Cup - Polish Leg 2009 FIM Speedway Grand Prix - one round FIM Speedway World Cup Race Off and Final A delighted John Postlethwaite said: "Poland is one of our key markets and it is great news for the future of both the SGP Series and SWC that venues for seven events are already confirmed for 2007 - 2009. "With this news, and also the fact that we have just signed a new five year deal with Polish broadcaster Canal +, the future of both world championships in Poland is very bright indeed." Jozef Dworakowski, Unia Leszno President said: "We are delighted to sign a three year deal with BSI to stage both SGP and SWC events. It is not only a big success for the club UNIA Leszno, but it is also a triumph for the city of Leszno and all Leszno speedway fans. "As we all know, speedway meetings organized by BSI are very popular world-wide, and both the SGP and SWC are not just speedway meetings, they are big festivals for all speedway supporters. I am sure that everyone connected with Leszno will put on great events and we look forward to thrilling world championship racing at Leszno over the next three years." spook
Is it Poland's 'turn' to host the SWC again? shouldnt it be going to sweden and then britain first? and even then there is a big argument that the ruskies should have it at their wonder stadium the 12 man squad is a good squad considering what Jim has available...... 2 heatleaders, 2 reserves and 2 PL show the huge issues that we have at international level..... and no matter how you try to promote things on sky Jim, and make out like the people being negative are wrong, the facts speak for themselves I hope GB do as well as they can but time is running out to start investing in grass roots and the Germans and Russians are coming up from behind while the Danes Poles and Aussies sail off into the distance My team would be Nicholls Harris Rico Kennett Woffinden I can see why Lynch will put Stead or Allen in there but once he doesnt use Tai in the qualifier he wont use him later on. Stead and Allen will not be much better than Woffinden ... if at all..... it is time to take a slight risk and one which can be rectified in the race off if necessary
Chris
You just made me cry chris brigger if allowed abroad Allen rr classic posts mate . Your right about the crap thou what is howe doing in there ? Well I was going to mention Howe when it came to crap in the squad, but after his performance on the telly and the Wolves result old SteveyBrum must be on the verge of topping himself so thought best not too. Where would we get such unintentional comedy on the forum if SteveBrum departed? Jim keeps worrying me by mentioning the home boys having an advantage. I'm having nightmares about Stead and Allen R/R appearing in the line up. Looking forward to the unfunny version of the chuckle brothers putting their case forwad for all things Cov. Daniel Smith
I agree with most, this has to be the only 5 to be concidered use in the World Cup. Nicholls Harris Rico Kennett Woffinden If any of the riders don't perform then I'd only throw Bridger in there.

ylinenhare5-1
Jeez.............what chance does Jim Lynch really have with the marvellous support that is being shown here??! If Nicholls and Harris can do what they are perfectly capable of doing around Coventry, then England (+ Scotland's number 1!) have a great chance of getting to the final. As Jim said last night, there is no quick fix. If they are to be successful alot will depend on the continuing development of Tai and Eddie. If, in the next 2 years, they can step up to be as good as their potential then all of sudden the team has a chance. And I can totally understand picking a larger squad. Gives the younger riders a chance to sample this kind of occassion and also get more advice on setups for tracks abroad and in general. William Lawson learned so much from the likes of Peter Karlsson at Wolves, so I reckon he would learn alot from this experience as well - so how is that a bad thing?? 5 FURROW
So if the marvellous bleeding IMG WTC qualifier is at Coventry this season and the race off and final there next season when are we gonna have a fully fledged test match there? Are you by any chance sponsored by mothercare cos the dummies are a flying again why do you bother to post on this subject we all know by now you hate the GP SWC /IMG setup what if IMG were to set up a test match are you saying you would attend double standards are begining to come to mind
Star Lady
Team GB stand no chance of winning this year *cue howls of protest* so I reckon we should use 2008 to plan for the future. At Coventry use Nicholls, Richardson and Harris plus two youngsters. I'd go with Kennett and either Woffinden, Wright or Bridger all 3 of whom have talent, guts and ambition, they now need experience. Have the rest of the squad there to soak up atmosphere/learn a few things/help out if needed. That team should get thro, at least to the race off. There is then a choice, settle for that or go for the final, put the same team in or use one old hand (Nicholls or Richardson) and then 4 youngsters. I personally can't see the point of putting out a team with Allen/Stead/Howe in, they just don't cut it at EL level IMHO so will be lost at SWC level. I'd go for the 4 youngsters option. We will win nothing this year doing it my way, but would we anyway The benefits will be felt in 2009 tho. I thought Lynch talked a fair bit of sense last night, and it was a pleasant change to hear a national manager be realistic instead of talking pie in the sky. He has to encourage other riders to think they're in with a chance, which is why he has an extended squad. But you're right - if you could ride a match between that squad and the squad 30 years ago (at their peak), the current team would be trounced. Guest PanthersChamp06
Nicholls - Good rider in the UK, 12th in the world atm....and cant do GP's, woeful this season along with Bomber, can he peform on the biggest stage? Harris - Ditto Nicholls, but 11th in the world atm, both are shocking at gating, and going to be embarrassed if they cant find the gating shoes. Rico - when he is fit....might be ok, but currently injured, surely wont be 100% fit for the WTC, so thats 0 out off 3 so far Kennett - Who knows....Never really rated him, but doing well this season, could do ok, and maybe our best rider Tai - Complete Wildcard....could be amazing, could do shocking, will give 110% Can see Stead getting the nod infront off Tai at Coventry, if we get to the final....it will be a shock in itself other than that....go GB! Happy Comet Fan
I hope that whoever gets the nod from Jim Lynch for the Coventry qualifier and further progress, stick it up all the negative posters on this topic. You are all a sad lot of insecure wazzacks. Do we want to see Team GB progress? YES. Then get behind the squad selected. All this individual slagging off of Jim Lynch and certain riders is so childish, You can only f**k with the c**k you are bestowed with so let the boys get on with it and do their best. No one can question that at the moment Team GB are not as strong as ENGLAND used to be, but thats history. If anything be constructive and support Team GB rather than being defeatist and slagging the team off before a competitive wheel has been turned. Trees
what if IMG were to set up a test match are you saying you would attend double standards are begining to come to mind NO I AM NOT suggesting THEY promote a test match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm wondering whether the BSPA could stage it over here, a********s to IMG, taking money away from speedway that it could do with! How good it would be to be able to support world championship events knowing that any money made would go back to speedway's coffers not some poxy private company who have nothing to do with our sport!! Not Lynch's fault if we have no decent riders For christ's sake Andy, we do have decent riders! Edited June 3, 2008 by Trees
