BOBBATH
Remember Ian-he was with Long Eaton late sixties-from London I think. Never quite made it-did he join the second division which started in 1968?He was a reserve /second string type guy. Nice fella I always thought. Wessex Wanderer
I think (strictly from dodgy memory) that he rode for Reading in 1968. He was one of their heat leaders (again I thinK) and possibly their first captain.

Ian was the very first ever Racer, by dint of his appearance in heat 1 (along with Dene Davies) of Reading's first ever match (7.6.68 @ Plymouth). Champion started the season in top form but after injury his returns were a tad disappointing. Lost his team place to Bernie Leigh midway thru 1969 (moving on to Rayleigh)

jackofdiamonds
Ian also rode for Brafield in 1966, not sure if he did the following year.
SHALEWAY69
I think (strictly from dodgy memory) that he rode for Reading in 1968. He was one of their heat leaders (again I thinK) and possibly their first captain. I remember Ian from the Mike Broadbank Rye House Training school of 1963. Ian lived near rye house and would push his bike to the stadium. Clive Hitch used to help him, he may have been a relative of "Clive the Dive" Ian was the star pupil who set the standard for the rest of us hopefuls.... leg trailer Ray Cousins, George Marsh, Stuart Wallace the Harlequin kid , Sid Whately Exeter novice of the year., Dave Battle from Fundin country, Tyburn Gallows, Geoff Hughes [he was the envy of all of us as he had purchased Ronnie Moores bikes] Norm Unger, Alan Jackson and Pete Gay were other names that come to mind Tony
