Where's Laguta? Surely Grigorijs should make the Latvian team

Must still be problems with his nationality. He was having trouble last year.In particular with the language.Seems they have a test, and he could hardly speak a word.He could ride in Individual meetings as all you need is the nomination of a particular country. That is why he rode in the Ice Racing as a Latvian or in the Latvian GP.But to represent a country you need to be a citizen and he was having problems in that area. But Ferjan seemed to take years to get his Hungarian citizenship

I thought Billy H had a difference of opinion with the American Governing Body, over their lack of support and money for American Speedway amongst other things.

And because of that I thought he was no longer doing International duties. A man with morals. :)

But if he is riding then good luck to him. Love watching the Americans ride but not sure whether they are strong enough to come through the qualifier - I reaaaallllllly hope so though

Thats cool.

Love watching Billy H ride but I think Ricky Wells will impress as well so whatever the team they should be exciting.

Also wondering - do we know what time this meeting starts? Billy J has to be back in the UK for a lunchtime start on the Monday for our home and away meetings with Peterborough!

So.. he isn't latvian then? This is news to me. Where is he from, and what language does he speak? :)

He's from Ukraine I think.

Sandie, I believe Billy is doing a Sam Ermolenko, he's making sure the Americans qualify for the SWc proper so that the yougnsters get a chance in a proper full on SWC meeting. Billy did say he was going to help the kids didn't he? So it makes sense I guess, provided they qualify :o I hope so as that way Ricky Wells may get a chance and we can all see if he's as good as he's being built up to be.

Think he is from Vladivostok, right over the other side of the world.About as far away as you can get.His younger brother is in the Russian U19 team, but it seems Gregori has differences with the Russian federation. Not sure how different Latvian is to Russian, but they do use the western alphabet rather than the Russian one  Just what i read in the German mag and on here was one member from Latvia who gave a bit more info on the problem

Yes, I remember him saying this - that seems like a very good plan and good on Billy.

Start time 16-30, i assume that means practice in the morning. When i went to the WTC qualifier there 2 years ago it should have started at 2pm with practice the day before. But it rained for 24 hours until 1pm, but the hungarians had invested in some decent machinery and the meeting started at 3pm. Believe me, there was enough rain to postpone british speedway for a week, but if you've got the right equipment, anything's possible. Sandie, dont worry about Billy getting back, there's at least one 6am flight out of budapest.

about laguta. at the Latvian GP last year he was Latvian according to Speedwayworld.tv; http://www.speedwayworld.tv/en/qual06lat/m3278

Like i said,in indivdual meetings like GPs he can be nominated by any country.Latvia,GB or even Sweden. But to ride in a team competition you need to be a citizen.Simon Wigg for instance "represented"the Netherlands and they played the Dutch anthem when he won in Longtrack.Much to his dislike  According to one Latvian member he still didn't have citizenship in November of last year.So i guess he still doesn't otherwise he would surely be in the team

All the former Baltic states ie Latvia,Estonia and Lithuania have "enclaves" of transplanted ethnic Russians left behind when the USSR collapsed and the integration of these people has been a problem. Most of the older Russians cant/wont speak the home language and that's become an issue as most of the states have put that down as a requirement to citizenship.

Oh my godness - I really dont think this team will progress but what an opportunity for little Kenny to ride with Billy!!!

Tommy is experienced but I fear the competition may be a little to much for him. On the last DT tour he got better as the tour went on but this is a one of meetingand he will need to be dialled in straight away.

Good luck to the boys but I fear this will not be their year.

Out of interest and without stirring things up - why Kenny and Tommy ahead of Neil, Dale or Tim.

I havent followed whats been going on in the States so would be interested why this is the chosen 5.

Without informed knowledge, I'd guess the expense of paying for some of the trip and the expense of having some days off work. Or it maybe that Kenny and Tommy are in this country or due to be in this country soon.
