I always thought he was Australian of Austrian parents ! certainly sounded Australian, perhaps he went there as a boy as he had no sign of an Austrian accent. That'll bother me now, took him to quite a few away meetings with Brum so he could have a kip when he had just come off night shift at the bus garage. I'm wondering why I think that now!! Can you put me out of my misery Frigbo.

He is Australian from Perth of Austrian parents. Hec is a really nice bloke who runs a garage business with his adult son in Perth. I meet him every so often, usually at international meetings in Western Australia. I can pass any info to Hec as its easy for me to pass by his place.

Andrew in Perth WA.

Thanks for the replies folks, it's really appreciated.

Can anyone please help me with the nationality of Guy Hawkes who rode for Sheffield and Doncaster between 1968 and '69?

He was Aussie. Apparently there were fireworks everytime he took to the track.

Ha ha ha  You had me worried then! Don't write that down yet Kev H, could cause some confusion in the future! (see most traveled riders.) Don't make a special trip Ast. but pass on my regards to Hec when next you see him. :approve:

I will pass on your regards, Hec is one of the most approachable people I have met and he will be pleased that others remember him. He enjoyed his time in the U.K.

Does anybody know the nationality of ex-Edinburgh junior James Hayhow? He came from Durban to Edinburgh, but was he South African, Rhodesian or Zambian? I know he was born in Northern Rhodesia, which after independance in 1964 became Zambia. Don't know if he ever held a Zambian passport?

And another rider from SA of the 1980's, Wally Hill, was he English or South African? (I believe he was born in England?)
