Roo Boy Gets The Nod

Recommended Posts

And your point is, ?, sure the riders that did compete had a few reasons not to as well, but competed anyway.

Junior

We're gonna hafta teach ya to use the "reply" button, junior fan, for starters anyway. That way you can attribute yer quotes rather than posting a mishmash.

Then we're gonna hafta teach ya how the financial side of Speedway works.

You're in Adelaide aren't ya? Come along to the Sidecars next weekend cobber, top of the bank turns 1 & 2, (oooops it'll be turns 3 & 4 unless they move the start/finish line over towards the Bar;) ya can't miss me, easier to go round than go over! We should have a little chat!

Ivan Golding'll probably be there too; you could ask him how MA operates.

I agree it was strange young Arthur didn't go straight into the Under 16's but as you're no doubt aware the situation was rectified and the result is there on the board.

As far as Ty Proctor goes with the Under 21's; Troy missed out last year through injury and Robbie was first reserve for the whole series so it looks like MA are giving them a go - who knows what'll happen between now & then, anyway?

As for me being a big fan of ROOBOY!!, OK I admit it, I'm barracking for the Territorian Tearaway, the Doyen of Darwin, winner of last year's Brandonapolis, top scorer in the Elite League Final - wait for it - (Drum Roll please) the one and only Rory Schlein (that's how you spell it by the way, a little bit of research wouldn't go astray.)

Next years' Ozchamps'll be a ripper again; just keeps on getting better.

Be interesting to see if Mt Gambier stays on the circuit; poor crowds there didn't help and now there's rumours of a Melbourne track plus of course my eternal prayer to see Speedway at the Ekka again, should be most interesting.

Plus an Oz GP?

Speedway in Oz hasn't looked this good for a long time. :approve:

Suspect Rory sought assurances that he would be selected in advance. Might have been a done deal before the meeting.

Ok so give the spot to the next qualifier, think it may have been Doyle.

I agree with you Junior, if the meeting was a qualifier then only the riders who competed in it should be eligible to go further. Unlucky for Schlein but there ya go, mind you with this ridiculous world championship speedway has these days anything is possible

There's also the Sponsorship question, Andy. I know Chris had some pretty lucrative deals lined up for this year which went a long way to ensuring that he just turned up at the tracks and rode, rather than having to organise every detail of a 5 meeting 2 week tournament spread over a third of the World's Largest Island/Continent - the logistics can be quite daunting getting to out-of-the-way places like Mt Gambier via public transport, let alone lugging two bikes and associated spares around as well - its a 24 hour drive from the Mount to Newcastle. Fortunately the vast majority of the Oz speedway family are helpful souls rather than Whingers - I nearly got bowled over in the Pits after the Gillman round by what appeared to be a rather large Cardboard Carton on legs - turned out to be Leigh Adams lugging some of Under-16's rider Justin Sedgeman's gear back to the van!

Hows that, a few points Ivan Golding is taking money from Msa under false pretences.

Authur only got the nod because Taylor Poole got hurt.

Speedway bikes are in a rut, none in your home town, no sidecar track in the west and Pinjar is really only a junior track.

Gillman couldnt run with locals only and i think the gold coast is the same, doesnt seem to be huge in melbourne, nsw is the only state that looks strong.

I think you'd be advised to be careful in what you say, junior fan, alleging people are taking money under false pretences.

Who cares how Arthur got in; he won didn't he?

I'm not sure we're talking about the same sport, are we? My glass is pretty well full; yours appears to be empty. Maybe its because you're talking to the wrong people ? Gold Coast seems to be kicking along eh Trackie? Talk of a track starting up in Mackay. Three tracks running regular meetings in Vic at the mo. Very few tracks could survive on just local Solos; mixed meetings are the go. Crowds up for Newcastle and Sydney in Ozchamps this year, and it was pretty chockers at Milly & Gilly! Of course I was there as well which fills up a fair part of any stadium!

Hi Andy, it was never a done deal.

Im not going to go into the full story as Rory and his family can do that if they want to but nothing was pre-arranged. He had to make an application to ride in the qualifiers, which he did at the appropriate time and it has only been recently that the MA have made their decision.

He knew he was taking a big chance and for the sake of his family he was willing to make the decision.

But I do have a question for the likes of BFD and co - The guys compete in the Australian Motorcycle Speedway Championship Series not the Australian GP Qualifier series. Is there something in the rule book / the MA procedures that states how it all works.

I do feel for the guys who rode but maybe, they are all in agreement about their ability and there capability, mentally and financially of competing in the qualifiers.

OK Sandie, but you can see why people might be suspicious. I'm quite sure there are behind the scenes deals going on in speedway, even if Rory is very ethical and honest.

Definately Andy.

I can obviously see it from Rory's side, and I know how down the line he was when he wrote to the MA way back in 2007 but I can also understand it from those that took part.

But I was aware that Cam W wasnt interested in the Quals but to him the Aus series was the important thing.

We knew that Roo may not be taking part and accepted that. It seems to have taken forever for the MA to make this decision and that in itself is re-assuring. Maybe they wanted to discuss fully with the riders who took part what they wanted and to make a full and qualified decision.

Now all the boy has to do is bloomin well qualify - I already have my place booked on the coach for the Qualifier, the day after Bdgoszcz GP!! (No pressure!!)

I'm inclined to think that we should take the athletics approach, hold qualifiers and stick to the results, even if they aren't the ones we hoped for. Everyone knows where they stand now. If the results are going to be overturned, it doesn't give any rider an incentive to take part, does it?

You're asking ME about RULES? I couldn't even work out the scoring until it was all over!

As for interaction between me & Officialdom, let's just gloss over that one as well!

All I can do is point you in the right direction, and even that goes against the grain with me!!

And the problem with that is???

Had both my kids by then - and by the way - its not Rory thats actually having a baby so I dont think the midwives will worry too much about his age!!!

Sorry Sandie, I didn't mean it like that

Just I've still got this vision of 20 year old Rory in glasses and being dead shy at Belle Vue and it seems hard to believe he's all growed up and gonna be a dad!!

Spose I've still got a soft spot for him and I really do wish him all the best :)

I was going to say... he can't be that shy if he's now got a youngster on the way. Evidently he's learned a few things along the way! :P:D

Interesting to see that Cam Woodward has been overlooked for a qualifying berth for the Gp qualifier

despite being the third placed rider in the recent australian title, his place taken by Rory Schlien.

And they bitch and moan that not enough aussies take part in the aus title, why bother if you can qualify without even riding.

Junior

It won't really matter that schlein was given the place in preference to woodward because he won't qualify anyway , he is nothing like the rider that all the hype which surrounds him suggests

never been one of Rorys biggest fans, even though he rides for the bees, but he is a very focused very professional head on his shoulders and knows the hard work he needs to put in. He will at the very least become a good number 1 in the various leagues around the world, and f he can become a bit harder and more ruthless then he has the potential and speed to become a world champion. Obviously he needs to fulfill that but he is going the right way about it.
