Mike Tams

is former southampton rider mike tams still alive? i am a member of the world speedway riders association and his name is still in the members handbook .however in conversation with joan golden(albys widow) she wondered if he was .her reasons being that mike used to keep in regular phone contact with her up to about a year ago then nothing.can anyone help in this matter .also i want to contact him myself to see if he is in england at the time of my reunion(see southampton thread)

Yes, Mike is still alive and living in Toronto......I have not been in contact for a while but our intention is to visit him soon.

I understand he is not in the best of health.

It will be VERY unlikely that Mike would travel England for a reunion.

I will post a note when we have some contact with him.

Got me worried so I phoned Mike....he is definitely alive but not in great health....I have sent you a PM.

 

 

 

There was a large article on Mike Tams' career in 'Vintage Speedway Magazine' about two years ago. He was also mentioned in a feature on Canadian riders in VSM a couple of months ago. Mike started with his brother Les at Eastbourne in 1947. When they went to race in Ireland in 1948, Les rode under the name of Les Gordon.
