yesterdaysman
Just looking through some old photos and came across one of Oxford team which I reckon is early 1964 (before league matches started.) It shows L to R. Colin McKee, Colin Gooddy, Jack Geran (on bike) George Major, Danny Dunton (manager) Ronnie Genz, Jimmy Gooch, Ron How, Arne Pander. What is pleasing to me is, as far as I am aware, they are all still with us! Something sadly, I find rarely these days of past team photos so it was a great pick me up for the day. .......Now please don't prove me wrong. Gemini
Not too sure about Ron How and George Major. It's a shame Norbold is on holiday at the moment as he is the forum historian and would know.
BOBBATH
I reckon they are all still with us-in fact you can go and have a pint in Ron How's pub-have one for me while you're at it!!!!

BOBBATH
Wasn't Eddie Reeves with Oxford in 64- I thought Colin Mckee might have been in the PL and for sure George Major was with CH.Therefore could it be 1963.On second thoughts Colin might have stayed back in Aussie in

(white) at first, then Norwich asked for a replacement for Jimmy Gooch and Oxford gave them George. Just trawling through some old S. Stars and found articles in '64 about Colin starting at Oxford and then dropping to Provicial league with Sunderland then Wolverhampton, also George going to Cradley at Whitsun, John Bishop and Eddie Reeves came in later. I think also this was the first year the race jacket had the Cheatah's head instead of the yellow sash, changed by the new promoters, two buisnessmen named Rodney Rycroft and Cy Melville ( a Jimmy Squibb lookalike!) Not too sure whether Danny was manager or out injured as he rode later, but could have been just standing in. The picture was taken for the Oxford Mail so probably at the start of season. Danny had actually finished riding a couple of years earlier. Rycroft & Melville were revolutionary, they were 'flash' but they did the business at Oxford and unfortunately left (I think after just 1 year). Dead right about the racejacket. Hi Gemini, Ron Howe was English through and through unless I have 'lost it'. Beast wishes Brian
Gemini
In that case I give up and won't try any longer to join in adult conversation. Don't worry you haven't lost it - it's me who's going senile.

Gemini
I know who I was thinking about now and at least the first name was Ron. There was an English Ron Johnston and an Australian Ron Johnston. Now go and tell me I've got that wrong as well because knowing what my memory is like I won't be surprised. Â Ron Johnston was a Kiwi who rode for Belle Vue, Ron Johnson was a Scotsman who rode for Australia, Crystal Palace, New Cross, Glasgow Ashfield and made his final team appearance in 1960 riding one match for Edinburgh. star ghost
I can add that Ron (the Scottish one) also turned out for West Ham during a comeback attempt.
Knowle
Regarding Ron Johnson I think I may have seen his last ride in 1960 when he fell in front of the field in Edinburgh"s visit to Bristol. Also contrary to previous poster he made more than one appearence for Edinburgh that year but failed to score in any of them.
Parsloes 1928 nearly
Glad to hear that. Perhaps I'm thinking of Ron Howe the Australian one. Â You're perhaps thinking of Ron Howes..:who also rode at one time , like Ron How, for Wimbledon but in Howes' case it was pre-war. Ron (Howes not his multi-World Finalist name-sake) had a mainly lower division career after the war, with Rayleigh. He was around Crayford too as machine examiner or similar; and sadly he did pass away the other year.. Not an Aussie though..: a South Londoner thru'& thru' I believe..!! Ron Johnson rode six times for Edinburgh in 1960, scoring one point plus one bonus point.
Gemini
Oh dear. I was hoping Norbold wouldn't come across this thread and see my pathetic attempts at getting my brain to work.
