Beeone
Sue, if it's still on I'll be there so will text/phone to you Regarding "members met", you can stick me on the list R*#<~T if of course I have correctly sussed who you are. We spoke at the speedway show at Ryton I think. I was the guy with the painting waiting for Bomber to sign it. It was the 'about to be married' bit on your profile that tipped me off! Ashworth gated ahead and Legault passed him on the third lap.  Heat 2: Smart had an engine failure and retired.  Heat 3: Lyons passed Birkenshaw to get the point for third.  There will now be a short break before Heat 5  Heat 5: Hargreaves tailed off at back with an engine failure.  Heat 6: Johnno unchallenged after the first bend.  Heat 7: Morris led for the first lap and half before Lyons went underneath him. Good battle between Nieminen and McConnell, Nieminen getting the better of McConnell after 3 and a half laps and just a bike length ahead as they came over the line.  Heat 8: King was well clear and looked very smooth and fast.  Heat 9: Hargreaves retired with an engine failure on lap 1.  Heat 10: Unsatisfactory start, all four back. Action packed race! Ostergaard chasing Legault hard only for him to go too wide on bend and almost scrape the air fence, this allowed Howe through underneath who then gave chase to Legault who he passed on the line. First announcement was that Legault had won the race only for the referree (who is Tony Steele) to correct the result.  Heat 11: Johnno flew from the gates and won by quite some distance. Smart and McConnell swapped places for the first two laps before Smart pulled away.  Heat 12: Roynon tailed Ashworth for a number of laps before passing him just before the line.  Heat 12 and a half! Match race took place between the two track reserves and Roberts beat Lowe (N/T)  Heat 13: Even break with front three very tight on first turn. Johnno went round the outside of Ostergaard and Morris and then won convincingly, others quite strung out. Hargreaves retired on first lap.  Heat 15: King challenged Howe for the first two laps before Howe pulled away.  Heat 16: Ashworth in 2nd place and Tomicek came under him cleanly, but quite aggressively between bends 2 and 3 to take second place.  SHORT INTERVAL NOW (Im hoping for a long one as I can hardly keep up! LoL)  Another match race in the interval, with the same result Roberts from Lowe. Time was 61.4  Main event about to recommence!  Heat 17: Hargreaves made 3 laps before retiring - its not his night!  Heat 18: King was very fast and a long way in front.  Heat 19: Tomicek had an engine failure on the 2nd lap.  Heat 20: Even break with a tight first bend, Howe went around the outside and pulled away for a comfortable win.  Heat 21 will be a race off for 2nd place between Johnston and King  Johnno led King for a couple of laps before King went on to win the race and secure 2nd place in the meeting.   Congratulations to David Howe.  Many thanks to Full Throttle for the updates tonight and thank you all for looking in. stevebrum
Just got home. A decent way to start the season. Some pretty decent racing too, tho the elite leaguers proving too powerful. Howe was a class above and good to see the foot injury hasnt stopped him. (tho he was still limping a fair bit). Nice was to start the year Howie
wolfpit
Lego looked awseome considering its his first competitive match at PB. Lyons looked to be dusting off the cobwebs and will be Mr Reliable. Â Ostergaard looked in fine form. Â As for Brummies as a team, well, the reserves need to get their act together asap for Friday. I'm not as confident as I was for us winning the league, having seen them all today. The potential is there, so there's no real reason why they cant perform. (pull your finger out Smartie, lad) Â There was a polite ripple of applause from one or two people (literally) for the appearance of Werner. Seems his devil may care attitude towards Birmingham last season will stay long in the memory
Brummie Kev
Decent meeting this evening not a bad season opener. Not sure why Andre wasnt there pity he couldnt defend his title. David Howe deserved his win tonight was fantastic. Even when he missed the gate in heat 10 the way he fought back was fantastic. That was the best heat and a fabulous heat of speedway. Heat 14 was another very good heat, fantastic battle between Lyons and Legault, Legault is pure entertainment and seemed quicker then lyons in that heat despite finishing second. There were some mundane heats but thats always expected in a slightly uneven field. First time i`d seen danny king ride and i thought he did well should have a good season at P`boro. Kauko was a bit hit or miss tonight, the ex brummies ulrich and Brent both had good meetings. Ulrich didnt suprise me excellent rider and i thought he would do well on his return. Brent however did, he looked like a totally different rider to the brent we saw last year on this showing he`ll do well at somerset. Â As for the brummie riders: Â Kyle Legault- If you consider he has never rode the track before his performance was great. Kept up pace with the EL guys and he was really entertaining. Gating was terrific and after this big things are expected. James Birkinshaw- Poor 3 heats then woke up Last ride was good chasing down Nieminen and looked a different rider. Should do well as time passes Jason Lyons -Indifferent first ride then back to normal service after that. Class of Howe and Johnston showed in last ride. Adam Roynon- Impressed as well , looked quick in a lot of heats. Should provide exciting racing when hes in it Phill Morris- Better then expected meeting. Looked good tonight. Smart- Not a great meeting by lees standards, got slightly better as the meeing wore on. Hargreaves- Absolute nightmare, its only the first meeting so i wont be too harsh. Hope he improves on friday. Â Good crowd to night, the track was in surprisingly good shape despite the heavy rain on Sat night. What was amazing was not one crash or rider coming off shows the track wasnt bad. Just glad the seasons back even though it was bloody cold tonight. Edited March 16, 2008 by Brummie Kev
full-throttle
not a bad meeting, crowd was poor IMO, but that is judging the corresponding fixture last year, although i don't think the weather helped. Â have to agree with stevebrum, howe looked good tonight, never really troubled. Johnno's first ride let him down big time otherwise he looked on the pace. legault looked steady and i expect him to bag a hatful of points this season. Â maybe i'll be back this season depending on finances and work commitments.

I wouldnt say the crowd was poor, have seen bigger crowds for PL meetings, although the car park was full and there were alot of cars parked at the one stop. We were never going to get the crowds of last years alan hunt meeting as that was our first meeting in 20 years. Do agree though that the weather played a part Edited March 16, 2008 by Brummie Kev
wolfpit
I think listening to'The lion sleeps tonight' everytime Lyons gets a win is going to drive people insane!! Yello's The Race is a nightmare! May as well use The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Â
Brummie Kev
The music was alright tonight, would agree the music for lyons will get annoying but the music on the whole was good. The new sound when the race is stopped is funny. (The family fortunes sound when a incorrect answer is given) Chris Simpson did a very good job tonight much better then Yorkie. wolfpit
It is far better than it was, agreed. Its not overpowering either.
Silver Bee
Decent meeting, well done David Howe, deserved winner, didn't put a wheel wrong, especially in the ride to pass Legogo on the last bend, if he did pass him
Col
Agree with whats been said, Howe was a class apart this evening, especially in heat 10, when he didn't make teh gate considering the injuries he's had preseason I thought he may stick rather than twist, but full credit to him he outfoxed Ostergaard & Legault. Â Legault got better as the meeting wore on, his race with Lyons & his last to first in heat 1 being the picks of his rides. Â Roynon looked as quick as anyone once he got going, should come good. Morris was solid & Lee Smart actually used the outside to overtake someone tonight, very rare he tried that last year. Birkinshaw struggled early on but was chasing down Neiminen in his final ride and looked much quicker. Hargreaves was poor, retired almost every race well adrift at the back. Â As for the others Danny King was quick all night and his overtake on Johnston in the run off was sensationally brave. Johnston did well after a poor first ride. Â Ostergaard, Werner, Nieminen as you'd expect; spoilers. Tomicek looked OK, but Ashworth was poor. McConnell was in the mix but didn't quite have the pace. Definately deserved winner of the evening as couldn't put a foot wrong. Johnno had poor first heat but then stormed the rest until meeting Howe in heat 20. Just a pity King beat him in run-off. Jemma
Should think Howie will walk it though. Â Don't underestimate Lyons at the Barr. He won an individual last season that featured Roo and Billy. Â Hmm, looks like I called it right 21st.

McConnell was in the mix but didn't quite have the pace.  Well that's saved me the hassle of typing it all out. Agree with every word.  Well done David. A faultless performance, and the burst from the back was a cracking ride. Kyle got things off to a cracking start with his blast from last in heat one, and his battle with Jason was a great race. Pass of the night goes to Danny in the run-off though. Johno couldn't have left any more than exactly a bike width, and Danny just went for it. Superb, ballsy ride.  I think the Brummies may be vulnerable early in the season. James, Lee and Jack would be a worry at the moment. Adam needs to make some of the starts I've seen him make at Brandon in a couple of appearances for the Bees. He was quick when he got going, but always chasing. Jason, Kyle and Phil will be scoring plenty.  Hmm, looks like I called it right 21st.  Enjoy your moment.
