Sandie
Another day done and dusted.Bomber and Billy J have come through their meeting tonight unscathed. Never before have I scanned the threads to make sure all riders for Sunday have all stayed upright during their meetings. Only thing to worry about currently is the weather. But power of positive thinking - it will be fine
Nevs
Only thing to worry about currently is the weather. Nope nope nope-you cant say that sort of thing. Newport run meetings in January for gawds sake woman!! Weather will be fine only thing people have to worry about is the speed restriction After M5 joining the ummm road to wales. and after crossing the big bridge down to those toll booth thingys, having reduced from 70mph to 50 MPH with distinct lack of signage three years ago about the change, and some little bugger is likely sat on a gantry above the road with a speed camera watching everyones move. As they would say in NYPD Blue (Circa 1993) 50 MPH approaching Toll Booths--be careful out there guys. Mine and Matt Davis' points officially ran out in January three years after The Newport Classic when the little bugger on the gantry first caught us and got his teeth into speedway fans heading Newport way Edited March 14, 2008 by Nevs

tanya
So is that a winner takes all on points or a big Final at the end?
Sandie
So is that a winner takes all on points or a big Final at the end? Big Final Tanya. 20 heats followed by a final. Just looked at the Beeb forecast - It should be dry at the time of the meeting, so it depends on how well the track holds up with the drowning it will take in the next 24 hours. You can guarantee that the track will need watering after about the 5th heat!! Just as an example, last weekend the Amateur Speedway held a meeting at the track and afterwards the co ordinator of the meeting was saying that it was almost a rain off due to the heavy rain they'd had in previous days, but the water bowser made an appearance during the meeting. So, don't worry about rain on the track. I've seen so many meetings held when the heavens have opened and it's produced fantastic racing. Bryn
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it on Sunday as to do so would involve me getting the 6.59am train from my local station to (IF the trains run on time!) try to ensure arriving at the Hayley Stadium before 1pm! Seats on the trins back to Paddington are somewhat scarce too because of all the French rugby fans returning after getting walloped by the Boyos. I'm somewhat gutted but really hope all goes well for Nick, Bryn
Gemini
very true, thats one advantage of the material they use. Which is? And why can't all tracks use the same if it would save a lot of rained off meetings? Edited to put the quote in. It's all Bryn's fault! SCB
Which is? And why can't all tracks use the same if it would save a lot of rained off meetings? Edited to put the quote in. It's all Bryn's fault! It's more fine, almost dust rather than the bigger clumpier stuff most other use. The problem is you need to keep Newport wet for it to be at it's best and it doesn't hold water well, so a pain in the summer BUT if it rains it generally works well. So it's got good and bad points. Remember people, Sunday 1 I'm told the race jackets will be auctioned after the meeting too, so bring all your pounds (your pennies won't be enough ) plus there's a great range of merchandise.
