Super 7 Shared Events 2008

Recommended Posts

i'm another that's concerned about a big meeting going to Birmingham ... great for the club, the track can produce good racing, but awful for spectators if there's an air fence as everyone will have to go inside and that's not what people like to do at speedway.

the viewing on the first bend is from a couple of temp stands which get full very quick, and viewing on the second bend will be nil unless you're 14 foot tall and can see over the fence.

no spectators along the back straight and 3rd/4th turns a problem too.

so all in all, if you're going to Brum and want to see, expect to be in the grandstand.

They haven't got one, but even if they had it would be pointless

With an air fence at Perry Barr all fans stood on the ground would see nothing, you watch through the fence not over it.

Not enough terracing either, so not quite sure what will happen

I think it's great that Birmingham have got this event, great advert for the sport in that area, great revenue for the club.

But I thought that because it was an EL event, they had to have an air fence, I might be wrong on this fact. If I am correct, and like Steve and others have suggested the viewing will be obscured maybe they will errect temp stands? I have not been to Birmingham as yet so I don't know the set up there. Also would all the expected fans that these events attract fit into one grandstand area?

Super 7 Shared Events 2008 are as follows: (taken from seetickets.com)

PREMIER LEAGUE 4 TEAM TOURNAMENT Derwent Park Stadium Workington  SAT 26/07/2008 19:00

CHAMPIONSHIP  Owlerton Stadium Sheffield  SUN 21/09/2008 15:30

Really thought that last years PL4TT was a massive success at Peterborough, great racing on a super track.

Why move it to such an outpost in Britain

The only reason I can see for that is a poor response from EL fans to watch PL speedway.

I saw only two super 7events last season and there couldn't have been a greater contrast: The EL pairs at King's Lynn was heaving, whilst the gate at the PLRC was poor (although it wasn't helped by a badly chosen starting time and a major crash on the M4).

To be fair, I haven't seen a bad 4TT final at Workington (and I went in 2004, 2005 & 2006).

Who do you think's a better rider out of Simon Stead and Leigh Lanham? And who do you think would finish higher in an individual around Lakeside?

Your Point is!

Leigh Lanham under 21 winner 1997 Beat into 2nd and third place Scott Nicholls and Lee Richardson!

Simon Stead Under 21 winner 2001/2/3 beating David Howe, Paul Lee, Ross Brady, Ollie Allen, Edward Kennett

Luckily Leigh does not qualify for the 2008 under 21 event!

They`ve announced that the ELRC is at brum but i`m not sure if we have got planning permission yet to stage it. Tony mole did put an application to the council before to stage the meeting before christmas but that was put back by the council. That was due to over 100 complaints by the residents and the university over noise, there hasnt been any more news in the local press so i`m notsure if the council have said we can stage this meeting.

As for the meeting itself, it would be a massive boost to the local area, to stage a big meeting like this. I do see problems in staging the meeting, firstly our carpark isnt massive compared other tracks, i know there is the shopping centre parking accross the road but if fans dont know that they might park on the streets which we have already had problems with. Also like other people i thought we might have needed a air fence, if one is installed then viewing on the first/second bend would be non- existant if you are not in the temporary stands. That would mean the straight would be come crowded. Still if these issues are addressed then the meeting can be a success because we already have fantastic facilites and a brilliant track that has provided alot of action.

Although I have no real problem with the tracks announced for the events, does anyone know why the EL pairs and EL champs are both on PL tracks but the PL events are also on PL tracks? It's a shame EL fans can't see them at their home track - or do EL fans have more money to travel around

On the whole I'd say Stead I guess, both have a limitation or two though.

On first thoughts re the 2nd q, without looking at any stats I'd say Lanham BUT having checked out 07 stats that's definitately not odds on so I'd probably say whoever wanted it the most on the night haha

No decision will be made until noise tests have been done. And just to point out that only around 17 of those 100 objections bore any relation to the facts. The rest, as usual, were based on myth and untruths.

As for the restricted view at Perry Barr, I'm sure it's something Tony Mole is acutely aware of - he must have heard it enough times last season. If alterations can be made I'm sure they will be, especially as the reputation of Birmingham Speedway will be on the line at such a prestigious meeting.

EL fans aren't interested if last years ELRC at Swindon is anything to go by. The crowd was very poor and I'm sure there's more atmosphere on the moon!

That's not fair Orion. You can still have a go at Howe, but we can't have a go at Rico anymore.  :D

I don't think the fact that rico rides for eastie will stop wolves fans haveing a go at him :P

Just means he might not get the defence he once got . :D

BRITISH FINAL Abbey Stadium Swindon THU 29/05/2008 19:30 British Final in the South West on a Thursday night? Any chance of somewhere central on a weekend?

PREMIER LEAGUE 4 TEAM TOURNAMENT Derwent Park Stadium Workington SAT 26/07/2008 19:00 Ridiculous. What was wrong with P'boro last year?

PREMIER LEAGUE BEST PAIRS Oak Tree Arena, Somerset FRI 27/06/2008 19:30 Only acceptable as night befor Cardiff

PREMIER LEAGUE RIDERS CHAMPIONSHIP Owlerton Stadium Sheffield SUN 21/09/2008 15:30 The Andre Compton show.

Why cant we have these meetings on Neutral, sensibly positioned tracks.

eg, British final at Sheffield? PL riders at Coventry? Fours back at P'boro??? Are home wins that good gor the sport?

Quite agree, but the desicions were taken i think at the annual conference, so blame the promoters, maybe its all about money or the willingness of some promotions to put on these events.

Although Worky will probably start as favourites for the fours at least a good show will be put on for the fans with a decent racing strip also. :approve:
