another nail in newports coffin

Along with PL Pairs clash that Steve points out:

It is the biggest emphasis yet on the fallout that may have happened between EL and PL. Are they talking to one another or p1ssing each other off intentionally.

This isn't an accident in my opinion.

How does the PL pairs intrude on Newport? Stone didnt care that he cashed in on the night before the GP,directly against Somerset, who's regular night is a Friday.I have always gone to Somerset on that Friday,no matter who the oppositin are.Much better racing, full stop.

Start the Open early, and folk can still do both.If people were going to do both anyway, albeit at different times of the season, wheres the problem? Ive put aside some cash for certain meetings.I know its awkward coming all at once, but if youve budgeted for it,wheres the problem?

I do however agree that Swindon is not the right venue or that I agree with the new date.It is only practical from the BSPA's point of view.

You a real idiot. I never said the PL pairs DID intrude on Newport. Re-read my post. Glad to see you can afford so much speedway.

I think putting the EL pairs right next to the PL pairs WILL make fans decide which one they want to go to. Friday night is harder to get to (remember last year?) than a Sunday afternoon along the M4. It will certainly turn fans away from Newport.

It is not the only practical date either.

Strangely, I agree that it should not be re-run at Swindon on that particular date. But that's because we were supposed to have our 60th Anniversary meeting then, which has now been kicked out of the water.

The Super Seven meetings (what numpty thought of that snappy title?) are always to expensive for us mere mortals - there's 5 of us that were going to go to the Jubilee meeting, but at a probable £20 a head with very little reduction for concessions, you're looking at not much change of £100, so the Pairs is out for us - like it is every year, regardless of where it is being staged.

Is the date and venue really that bad?

You can guarantee all the big guns will be in the Country as previously stated no Polish fixtures on the Sunday. People will be making their way back from Cardiff along the M4 and can drop in.

As for it affecting Newports crowd what a load f bollox. There will be 30-40,000 people in the Millenium Stadium, what percentage of those usually go to Newport and for that matter Somerset? Personally I think this is a sensible decision but as usual people will always try and find fault.

I don't think it's just the date, it's the cost of the whole weekend that might make people pick and choose what they attend and what they don't. No one know's what affect this will have on crowds for the other meetings.

Sod Newport, since when do they have a god given right to cash in on the GP? If Stone gave you a competitive team maybe you wouldn't have to rely on the few big meetings you stage every year.

To Me it isn't just the date it's the venue as well as it is NOT a Neutral Track If I were one of the other Elite league pairs I would refuse to ride at Swindon it is unfair. Sod the organisers to me they organise a p*** up in a brewery. How many premier league clubs are there that would be quite happy to have the revenue that an event like this would bring!!

How many put themselves forward? Plus if you know anything about how these things work I think you'll find the host track doesn't actually make that much.

Are you equally unhappy at the PLRC being held at Sheffield?

The mighty rosco has just been on the radio and is well happy that it is at swindon, should be a massive event with every one coming down from cardiff to the home of speedway .

I Just wonder if this will be a all ticket event as i hear the phones have been going crazy this morning .

Correct.......personally I always go to the Cardiff GP on the Lakeside Coach....it's a good laugh on the journey and it takes the strain of driving and parking etc out of the day so I can enjoy myself (have a drink) and also without thinking of the aggro getting out of the city at 11:00pm and the 3 hour drive home. If I were to go to Swindon on the Sunday as well it would mean going by car instead and putting up with the driving, booking and the extra costs of a hotel, meal etc etc and then another drive to Swindon and a late drive home afterwards. Either that or two trips one to Cardiff and home at 3:30am and then off to Swindon the next day at about midday and home that night....who the **** wants all that cost or aggro ??? Besides even if Leigh Adams doubles up with Rosco as his partner they will still win the damn thing !!! I am sure it was agreed some while ago that doing it at a neutral track was to make it look less of a mickey mouse competition and make the BSPA look like they knew what they were doing !!! Looks good for big Tel though !!!!

Now I would have had Belle Vue as favourites myself.

People were moaning because the event had not been rearranged (myself included) but now that it has they moan even more.

I think the venue and date make perfect sense.

Swindon is the ideal location. Once people have had a lie-in after a few bevvies in Cardiff Saturday night they can get some lunch and drive down the M4 to Swindon in time for the meeting

The fact that it is the day after the GP means that there is much less liklihood of the big names dropping out as has been the case in recent years.

And no track is ever going to be totally neutral to all riders involved so that argument is flawed as well.

Once upon a time there was a man called Jonathan Chapman. A sweet man he loved his speedway and decided to make a super 7 series. He oh so wanted to call it the Magnificent 7 event after of course the Magnificent Seven of Hackney. Oh how we miss them everyone!

But boys and girls, he upset the fairy god mother, who in turn made it rain and rain on a Saturday night in Kings Lynn. The speedway riders cried and cried and the meeting had to be cancelled because the little boys didn’t want to get wet and dirty. After all what would there mummy & daddy’s say.

Then, the fairy god mother who felt very guilty because she had made it rain said, don’t be upset, you can come around to my house and you can do it there! It won’t be until June can you wait till then?

All the boys and girls screamed

‘No we wanted it now’

She of course did not listen!

Well of course this fairy tale may have a happy ending for some, but not for the paying public, the people who keep the tracks going, the silent share holders if you like who go to speedway week after week. As long as it suits the little boys who ride the bikes, who cares about the paying public!

What errant nonsense. Without the "little boys who ride the bikes" there would be nothing to watch.

This post is extremely insulting.
