HBKPCNBob
QUOTE (Rob B @ Apr 5 2008, 09:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just got back from a waste of a day and money. What a farce, first of all what the hell were Kings Lynn track staff doing watering the track half an hour before the start when the sky was black in the background, it was so obvious it was going to rain. Track was obviously wet but I don't think it would have been too bad aftere Buster graded it, first 4 heats would have been a bit dodgy but then the track would have sorted itself out. What we couldn't understand is why they called it off so quickly when it started raining again and it only lasted for a minute at the most. I know for a fact that Belle Vue pair of Jason Crump and Charlie Gjedde were more then willing to ride, whilst negotiations were going on Jason Crump had actually gone to the spares van to buy some extra tear offs and couldn't believe it when he came back and that it had been called off! The referee was bullied by just a couple of riders to call it off. I agree, and probally being in the band of 'furthest travelled fans' feel just as robbed as you were of this. Couldnt even get money back on night if required which is a joke and have to write to BSPA instead. Jeez how long could that take someone. Lucky for me I can re use them at localler Super 7 meetings, which is fine for me, but disappointing for others who have to wait ages to see there money again. Ah well after 4 posts of reaction to the meeting, myself on the night was happy as met up with a friend for the 1st time and she was the beaming light on a dull April night. See you again friend in the summer Edited April 7, 2008 by pcnorwood
Tamtig
Personally I would rather have it called off before the meeting, as it was, rather than watch them all slide round follow the leader style long enough for us to not be entitiled to a refund. I know they all have greater commitments than the EL best pairs, so no-one could expect them to give 100% especially on a track which did look pretty bad. I agree that we should have been entitled to our money back there, but maybe there was nothing KL could do, afterall, we have to send our tickets to the BSPA to get a refund, not the Chapmans. Highlight of the night, the big screen when Mike Bennett was interviewing fans and he was talking to one fan and there was a little boy in the background jumping up and down to be on the tv lol
Trees
Due to the way we travelled we had to stay over night and at no time that evening did it rain again. Ah that's what I wanted to know ........................... call off not justified then, that minute shower made no difference to the track, did the riders take a vote on the abandonment? barrow boy
JC has really let rip at Bjarne Pedersen in todays Bournemouth Echo JC v BP I trust that all the Jason Crump knockers have noted that although Mr Chapman says he has little respect for Elite League riders is thinks that the 2 times world champion is an exception. Blazeaway
Jonathan Chapman shouting the odds again What a berk. Surely the riders would know wqhether the track was safe or not? If there is any doubt the meeting shouldn't go ahead. As if we don't get enough injuries already. Also the following is an absolutely disgraceful comment to make, what a twit. "I have no time for Elite League riders, they are all prima donnas, although Jason Crump is one exception in my eyes." Trees - I cant find the original post that you used as a quote so Im using your post only sorry. I actually dispute that the person said there was no further rain. We went back the the Brewers fayre pub for dessert once the meeting was called off. We were in there for about 1 hour and whilst we were there it rained again and as we started our journey home for the first 15 - 20 minutes we had our wipers on double speed. I know showers can be isolated but as we came out of the pub we all said - right decision.

And that last sentence speaks volumes - he should stick to Premier League racing if that is what he thinks!!

I have heard meeting unlikely to be re-staged. Whether this is to do with what has been said or not I don't know.

LisaColette
i wonder if JC had a go at leigh adams about being only interested in the money not the paying public as according to him leigh was the other rider who tried to get it called off as well. unless he just saved his rant for bjarne. Danzell
Why is everyone taking this out on JC(johnny chapman), look what he has done for the sport in the past year or so, I can totally understand why he has quit. He has tried moving the sport onwards and upwards but what does he get in return? Im not gunna answer that......... i cant see why everyone is taking it out on JC , he wanted the meeting to go ahead because of the fans, if i was him i would have said to the fans it was these 4 riders that called it off, thats why you cant have your money back so go sort it out with them. thats my point of view anyway, kings lynns track used to be ankle deep in shale all the time a few seasons ago, especially when we were elite and no one moaned then so why start all the moaning now, i thought riders like a grippy track. The majority of riders were willing to give it a go, it was just a minority who said that if it was run they would go home, well so be it, they will be the ones who lose out as there fans would want to know why they went home etc. You'd never get this sort of thing happen in football, its like saying Ronaldo will play on an awful pitch(wigan lol) but Huckerby doesn't want to so lets call it off. Oh well I can see why JC quit, everyone taking it out on him, it wasn't his fault it was called off, it was the riders. This is only my point of view, and before anyone says it, yes I was there and I have seen what Buster and his track staff can do within an hour, it was just a case of the minority of riders threatened to go home. Lets just hope they keep the roof shut at the Millenium stadium this year. Edited April 7, 2008 by Danzell

This is only my point of view, and before anyone says it, yes I was there and I have seen what Buster and his track staff can do within an hour, it was just a case of the minority of riders threatened to go home. Because ''JC'' has now slagged off one of the riders who, understandably, didn't want to risk his life by riding on a wet and icy track. I wasn't there, as I wasn't going to pay £20 for a meeting, that if it was half as bad as last year's ELRC, would be a diaster and a rip-off. Has ''JC'' ever ridden a bike? In Bjarne Pedersen, we're talking about one of the world's best Speedway riders and a respected one too. You can't say the same about Mr Chapman. And you comment about what he has done for Speedway? Errr... what exactly? Yes - he has gone in with his dad with Kings Lynn, but has he actually done any of the work there? Every time I see him at Lynn, he's just talking to someone or standing watching! Yes - he has PLANS to bring back Leicester, but will it happen? Saying and doing are different things. I'm not a friend of Jonathan Chapman's, as most of you will know, and I get a lot of stick from Kings Lynn fans for literally stating my opinion on him. TBH, I'm sure Kings Lynn wouldn't be losing a lot of Jonathan Chapman left.
colincooke
I'm sure leigh would have been quaking in his boots if JC was ranting at him NOT JC would no better than to rant at a much respected rider. Maybe he saw Bjarne as the quieter one and an easy target. I come out o the side of rider safety every time on this issue, i did hear it announced at least twice that riders we're keen to put on a show, the lull in the rain was very short lived & the right decision was made no matter what JC says. Of course we would all have rather the meeting be held, but not at the cost of good, safe racing.
Star Lady
I've had many disagreements with JC over the years, we are still friends tho cos he can take criticism, but at the end of the day he was the person that had to face the fans, not the prima donna riders, who from what I can gather hot footed it into their vans/cars and sped off to the airport. Maybe in future when meetings are called off, the riders should be made to stand at the exits and say sorry to the fans that there is no racing. As for his comments about prima donnas, IMHO he got that spot on. Edited to reply to M08 Yes Jonathan has ridden a speedway bike, as has his father. Maybe a few more promoters should be seen talking to people, especially fans, that's why he and Buster are so much respected by Lynn fans, even those that don't agree with them. Quite a few promoters think fans should pay and shut up. That's not the Chapmans way, they will always talk to fans, whether the fans like them or not.
