BTL
Very sad to hear this news - I remember only too well his legendary sweeps around the boards on the 3rd / 4th bends at Hampden. My condolensenses go to his family at this sad time. RIP Oyvind - thanks for the memories.
miro
Sad news indeed. Oyvind was a tower of strength for the Cheetahs, a tough and really popular rider who always gave his best, someone we could count on in the terrible season of 1971, stayed for another year with the Rebels. I found some photos of him only the other day, and this news coming at the time when the club is as good as finished. RIP Oyvind.
TwoMinuteWarning
One thing about Oyvind that is unique - he was the first and only champion of Israel. That was on April 3, 1976 in Tel Aviv. Not easy either - he had to beat Fundin and Penhall in the final!

TwoMinuteWarning
Was that on a trip organised by Barry Briggs? The one Bert Harkins was on? That's the one. It comprised 5 (or 7?) USA v The World matches, plus the Israeli Open Championship. Do you have the magazine for that series TMW?If you do, i know someone wants to know if there is any info on Frank Shuter. Will save me trying to clamber into my cellar and find my copy Stay out of the cellar, Doug (never know what you might catch down there!). He contacted me too, and I've emailed him Briggo's Speedway Star articles about the trip, which make it clear that Frank Shuter was resident in Israel at that time.
