Polish League 2008

Recommended Posts

I've always sort of followed Polish League Speedway but as i'm going this yr 2 the Bydgoszcz GP, i've decided i want to follow it more closely.

I'm going 2 pick a team 2 follow & then try & follow its progress via this website hopefully as the coverage is usually good.

As we dont get that much news in England of the Polish League racing, apart from a bit in the Speedway Star each week, can anyone with (or without!!) Polish connections confirm the line ups for 2008 thus far?? Like most english clubs, the total teams may not yet be finalised but who rides 4 who will give me a better way of deciding who i'm gonna follow in Poland.

Also, how does the squad system work exactly?? Is there a rule on how many foreigners (non Poles) each time can use in a meeting & how big are the squads.

Cheers for the info anyone who is in the know!!

Hi!

So good to here that you liked GP in Bydgoszcz, because I came from this city and my club is Polonia Bydgoszcz :)

You've asked about regulations. What league do you prefer? Regulation in Extraleague are quite different then in 1st and 2nd league.

Extraleague (Ekstraliga)

In match in team there are 7 riders (numbers 9-15 for home team, and 1-7 for away). Riders under numbers 6 and 7 (or 14 and 15) must be U21, one of them must be pole. Two riders from all team must be pole too. The U21 rider can be replaced only by U21 rider. There are also jokers, tactical substitutions and rider replacements. There are aggregate points.

League system. All teams rides 14 matches (with all rivals, home and away). Then there will be playoffs (2 matches):

1-6

2-5

3-4

To the semi-finals goes winners of each pair, and the best looser (team who gained the most points). Then there are semi-finals and finals.

Two last teams (7-8) ride two matches. Looser goes to the 1st league, winner will fight with second team form 1st league about place in Extraleague.

First league (Pierwsza liga)

In match in team there are 8 riders (numbers 9-16 for home team, and 1-8 for away). Riders under numbers 6, 7 and 8 (or 14, 15 and 16) must be U21, two of them must be pole. The U21 rider can be replaced only by U21 rider. There are also jokers, tactical substitutions and rider replacements. There are aggregate points.

League system. All teams rides 14 matches (with all rivals, home and away). Then teams are divided in two groups: 1-4 and 5-8. In each group team rode 6 matches (home and away with all rivals). First team from group 1-4 goes to Extraleague. Second team fight with 7th team from Extralegue.

Quite actual squads you can find here for Extraleague, here for 1st league, here for 2nd league.

If you want to know more regulations just ask :) Best regards

Thanks a lot mate, thats a brilliant help & i feel like i understand it all now thanks to your excellent explanation.

Only been to Poland once & that was to Wroclaw in 1992 for the World Final so am tempted to follow them, especially as they have my fave rider Jason Crump riding for them.

I've always loved the Bydgoszcz track though when i've seen it on tv & as i'm going there for the GP in Sept them i'm tempted to follow them in hopefully a promotion season!!

Many thanks again for taking the time to send such a great post.

Regards,

Jamie.

I am very surprised to see Antonio LIndback included in the team for Czestochowa for 2008. I thought he had "retired" from Speedway now?

He's not in the team. Those are riders who have left from last season. :)

Antonio before season 2007 has signed three year contract. In this list are riders with signed contracts, so there is also Antonio.

Just a quick query re the post u very kindly added previously in response to my request for squad details for 2008.

Does this link constantly update when new signings r added or do ya have 2 look 4 this info elsewhere??

Yes, Hlib is banned by club, but.... club can unbanned him ;) I think if Hlib will be important and necessary in squad, he will say "I'm sorry", club promoters will say "OK, but don't do this again" and the next day Paweł will ride in league ;)

Does anyone know when the 1st round of fixtures are because looking at the squads so far for the 1st Division, Rybnik only have 5 riders signed up compared to 19 at Ostrow!! If so where can the fixtures be found online??

Think they're leaving it a bit late & Poznan only have 9 so far which for teams of 8 doesnt give them much cover if any1 gets injured or is unavailable!!

Is there a limit 2 the squad numbers, as Ostrow must be close 2 it surely??

Are you looking for Ekstraliga or Division 1 fixtures?

Ekstraliga rounds are all on this page in yellow. I haven't put the individual meetings on yet, but will get around to it.

But I'd also appreciate the Division 1 fixtures if anyone has them please?
