So is that The Pavillion in the photo?  If so presumably it is still going strong and will probably do even better business when all the houses have been built.

Certainly does, i stopped going the chippy in the end and started going there for a shish doner special! Good ol days.

What exactly is a doner kebab and what does it contain? The only one I've seen is in Coronation Street. You'll have to excuse the ignorance but I'm one of those strange veggie persons so don't know.

It is pitta bread with salad and is rumoured to be Lamb meat but it doesn't taste much like lamb to me although they are nice. Apparently by law you have to have one after several pints of lager. :P

Sorry Kev. I don't know, but you could perhaps try sending arnieg a P.M?

He's got a Long Eaton avatar and although I think he lives in London now he may have some old programmes.

just a few!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I have come up with:

Final record: 61.7 Stekkers 7.4.93, and equalled by Chris Manchester 12.6.96

Previous TR: 61.8 also Stekkers 61.8 14.8.91

and before that: 61.9 by... Stekkers (8.5.91)

Kevin Smart was the last TR holder before Stekkers (62.3 on 27.6.90)

Biggest memory of Station Road was when Wolves had to use it for the Play-Off final in 1996 due to Monmore Green being updated.

Will Beveridge rode a blinding ride in one heat

I got my first speeding ticket on the way home

My wife (then girl friend) was at home 7 months pregnant

The track was ok, but the stadium left alot to be desired.

I remember parking and rushing in just before the first race for a meeting against Rye House. At the end of the sixteenth heat I rushed out into the car park and couldn't find my car, I spent about twenty minutes looking for it and almost gave up. Went outside the stadium to see if I could find a policeman and it struck me that I was looking in the wrong car park felt such a plonker but not as much as the following year as I stopped in Long Eaton for petrol and promptly put deisel in the bloomin car....AA to the rescue! Missed the meeting though

A friend of my wife used to live near Long Eaton speedway and he reckons the big "manor" type pub was almost certainly called The Pavillion and was knocked down about 20 years ago.

The Pavillion, if i remember correctly, was still there when Long Eaton closed. They used to hold rider forums and such there, and i believe it got burnt down by arsonists along with the main bar after the sadium closed, which is when it got demolished. I think it closed down not long after the speedway closed, presumably because the speedway provided alot of business for it, but again, this is just my take on it.

I first went to Long Eaton in 1984. I was then a 14 yr old Coventry fan and went because the cov juniors were racing that night. We told Darren Slater that we'd come just to see them and he was over the moon! (and probably thought we were a bit mental) My dad and i were hooked on the quality of racing we saw that night and made regular trips that year, and after and i'll never forget the night they won the league against scunthorpe.

Another vivid memory was the night Hackney rode there (in 1988 i believe). Andy Galvin and Moggo got on the wrong side of the Invaders fans and i seem to remember Galvin getting into a fight with one of the fans. He never was popular there after.
