Christmas Racing - Sun 30th Dec 1pm @ Scunthorpe

Recommended Posts

I apologise for posting this in the wrong section but given the lack of track action during the winter I thought this should be brought to the attention of a wider audience.

As the title suggests the 3rd Christmas Cracker Short Track meeting will take place at the Scunthorpe Raceway this Sunday (start 1pm). Speedway riders Ricky Ashworth, Adam Allott, Benji Compton, Simon Lambert and Rusty Hodgson along with road racing stars John McGuinness (TT Fame), Guy Martin (Ulster GP winner), Steve Plater (Macao GP winner), Ben Wilson and Matt Llewellyn plus Super Moto racers Leighton Haigh and Andy Mitchell will be taking on regular Short Track riders like Peter Boast, Tim Greig, Glyn Pocklington and Victor Bull for the title.

Last year the meeting attracted the biggest crowd to the Scunthorpe Raceway since the track's opening meeting in 2005 and with a dry and fine day forecast for Sunday another bumper turnout is expected.

Last year's meeting provided some excellent racing and this year's line-up suggests it will be no less competitive.

Boast claims Christmas Cracker

Market Rasen Short Track racer and former speedway rider Peter Boast fought off a strong challenge from the Cleveland Bay’s Rusty Hodgson to win the Christmas Cracker Short Track meeting at the Scunthorpe Raceway on Sunday afternoon. A large crowd was treated to some top quality racing as stars from a variety of motorcycling disciplines duelled around the 285-metre shale track and after 24 races it was Boast who finally claimed the title.

However, Boast did have to do it the hard way. He reversed his semi-final defeat to Hodgson and eventually passed the North Yorkshire rider half way through the 12-lap final. Completing the podium was Stamford’s Victor Bull whilst Woodhall Spa’s Steve Plater was the pick of the road racers finishing a creditable 6th. Former Scunthorpe Scorpion Paul Cooper was a late addition to the field and as usual provided plenty of entertainment on his way to 8th place. Three other speedway riders also made the final with former Berwick and Edinburgh rider Carl Shield finishing 9th, Sheffield’s Ricky Ashworth 10th and Boston rider Simon Lambert claiming 11th place.

Ten quad bike races also provided their fair share of entertainment and it was the Hooker brothers from Caistor who eventually claimed a 1-2 at the top of the podium.

Glad you enjoyed it 'iused'..! :)

It was indeed a splendid afternoon's racing with so much action and passing impossible to record it all!! And you're right about 'Cooperman': he was awesome!!!! :)

Hopefully in the forthcoming STUK series in '08 we'll see more and more Speedway folk coming along to enjoy the action! See following thread for dates and details:

A massive thank-you to Rob Godfrey and all the team at Normanby Road for laying on superb facilities on & off the track; to Rich for his excellent meeting report (see above and Scunny website); and especially to Steve Dixon: the most professional Speedway track photographer out there IMHO.
