Wimbledon Memories

The reason I connected the England v USA speedway test match to the midget car demonstration was because the video reminded me of this. During the wait for the midgets to go on track, the stadium announced reliably made reminders about "...next week's England v USA test match..." I was when I saw the Link for test that I recalled the midget car trials. If I had not seen that presumably there would have been no recall vibes in regard to midget cars having a trial run at Plough Lane. It's known as 'association of memories'!

Brilliant. You are not someone I remember really having or at least sharing such vivid memories of much. More you share things that seem to be taken from a magazine or a Programme. So thanks for sharing this wonderful story over 3,4or is it 5 posts

You know what, when I saw the name "gustix", it brought back memories of wind "gusts".  That made me think of all the times I suffered from wind!  Then - and this is the cool thing - wind led me to kites!  There was a speedway rider called Alan Kite! :party::t:

The few speedway memories I have are reserved strictly for the prestige SpeedwayPlus website.

I don't recall the debate on midget cars having a trial after a Wimbledon speedway meeting as being a bona fide speedway memory, just originally a recap on something minor that happened in the early 1980s. It has been the subsequent comments that have blown what was only a minor happening out of proportion - spurred to a large extent by your usual attitude!

I have hardly engaged you on this topic, apart from praising you on what a great memory of the events and of course for drip feeding us over numerous posts throughout the day!!So show me where my attitude to a large extent has helped jog you?

Really? You gotta be kidding me! What have I said that is offensive ? Just remind me how it is perfectly okay for you to say "f... You" on a public forum, yet I have made a speedway-related joke about suffering from wind (with no foul or inappropriate language) and you are beside yourself?

Steve (or whoever you think I am...)

Now I'm really confused???

You claim your speedway memories are "reserved strictly" for Speedwayplus? Then why are you on a speedway (or BFTF) forum where we "share our memories"?

More to the point, why do you think a SPEEDWAY forum is the place to share your memories of motorsports OTHER than speedway?

Genuine questions...

I mentioned midget cars in this instance because they made a legitimate appearance at a motorcycle speedway meeting and were booked and paid to turn up by the stadium/speedway management. They were not interlopers and I would be of the opinion they were participating guests.

I tend also to have an opinion reflected in New Zealand mainly but also across Australia that sidecars and midget cars are a part of speedway generally. In these countries the section this forum specialises in is what NZ and Australia regard as solos.

I regard it as a justified comment in regard to the appearance of he midget cars at this meeting as a recognisable happening. I have not seen any reference as you appear to have regarding "More to the point, why do you think a SPEEDWAY forum is the place to share your memories of motorsports OTHER than speedway?"

The so-called sharing of memories on this forum are, by and large, just brief snippets. The splendid SpeedwayPlus tends to specialise its memory features on lengthy researched articles and photos.

1) I went to White City once - for speedway - and there was a bloke jumping from a tower into a small bath of water. He was a "participating guest", so should I start another forum on here called "Stuntmen and Escapologists"?

2) Please note that this is the "BSF"; it is not the "BFTF" or the "ANZSF". "British Speedway" is four blokes on 500cc bikes running on methanol...

Why not try. The Mods may like it! The actual BSF section for this would probably be General Discussions

Not for many more years the way things are going. Enjoy it while it is still there. As previously mentioned by me the last time I went to speedway was in 2005. My comment qualifies for this thread because it was a Wimbledon meeting.

In 1954 two members of the Wimbledon track staff (the rakers) were novice speedway riders. They were Dave Freeborn and Al Holliday. Freeborn rode mainly at Eastbourne and Aldershot. Holliday rode at the old California-in-England and Rayleigh. Does any forum member know of any other Plough Lane rakers who also tried out as riders?

Again, how many times are you going to tell us that you haven't been to speedway since 2005?

Your first sentence, however, does not qualify for inclusion on this thread; it references the FUTURE of British speedway - if indeed there is one...

It is not a crusade against gustix; it is a crusade against stupidity and self-importance.   It is difficult to get over it when he responds to a reaction with even more inanity... As I said, I have had my issues with iris.  The thing with gustix is that he complains if others deviate all, but it's okay for him to hijack almost every thread and redirect to what he wants when it is invariably non-speedway related.

I get it, I get under your skin.  GET OVER IT...

Can you clarify what the initials BFTF define please?

A happening with Wimbledon which convinced me loyalty means little in speedway was the treatment of Jim Tebby. He spent some 12 seasons with the club circa the 1960s into the early 1970s. Then the club on the face of it 'dumped him' to make way for a newcomer to their side.

It may be an unlikely happening but does any follower of this thread have any background information into what, at least as I see it but others will have a different view, as to what the 'disgraceful Tebby sacking' was all about?
