I agree, very surprising to see one of Australia's top junior riders having to qualify., when others who didn't fare well in their State titles are through automatically.

Not surprising really if you know how these things work.

The rule book states that the first 2 from each state in their state titles goes thru to the Australian titles. In my tally this makes 10 riders so how do you end up with 4 NSW and 3 Qld riders. It looks as though WA only seeded 1 rider so this then should leave 7 spare berths if you run by the rule book. All other riders wanting to compete should then go thru the qualifying or all 16 riders should be selected without a qualifying round (after all WA is a long way to go for only 4 berths up for grabs). I have just had a look at the sup regs and there is nothing about seeding riders after the first 2 from each state so who made up the rules and why have a rule book if you aren't going to follow it.

To me this looks more personal than ability based and maybe it's more a case of who you know not how good you are.

It is who you know most of the time.

MA decides on the format after entry are taken. The 1st rider from there state title goes into the OZ title. Then MA gives a list of riders to the ralevent state bodes and they thews the riders. But MA tells the state that thay only have so meny spotes.

Correct Gatesy, the only certainties are the first rider in the state titles in the state that they are registered, meaning you cant qualify through another state title. And the defending champion, which didnt apply as Dakota is now a senior.

After that its in the lap of the gods im afraid.

Back in my day the first two from each state were automatic qaulifiers , but im not sure if that was a rule or just the formula they used. After that they generally picked the next best third placed riders, and im fairly sure probably because the amount of riders was far greater that it was only riders from that state that rode in a state title.

Quote from the Gillman web site;

Arthur Sissis has replaced the injured Taylor Poole as one of the seeded riders for the 2008 Australian Under 16 Solo Championship.

12 year old Arthur will give a few of them a shake!

Yes Arthur replaces the unfortunate Taylor, and I'm pretty sure he'll give them all something to think about.

As far as I know there are now eleven in the qualifyer. With the top four from there meeting on the 17th joining the twelve who are seeded directly to the big event on the 18th

There are four Queenslanders in the qualifyer, so with three already seeded directly, theoretically there could be seven Queenslanders in the sixteen rider field.

So who's going to be in WA for the four days of track action?

Furthermore who is up for some socialising, looking forward to my first trip to Western Australia since 1990.

Hope to meet a few new (and old) faces over there, I hear the Swan Valley wineries (and breweries) are worth checking out?.

Without Bryn, the race to the bar will be a walk over for you WWTBP!

Regards.

With my gammy foot trackman, WWTBP would have won the race even if I had have been there!
