Trees
what £200+ per person?????????????????? I'm guessing there's extras to take into account that others haven't in their personal calculations .................. Not that I'm flying the flag for TP tours because I would do my own thing too in the hope it worked out cheaper lol Edited December 22, 2007 by Trees
SCB
I'm guessing there's extras to take into account that others haven't in their personal calculations .................. Not that I'm flying the flag for TP tours because I would do my own thing too in the hope it worked out cheaper lol <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Like what? For a start, in Prague, TPT don't stay in the centre, so if you want to go for a drink/do the touristy stuff you have to get to the centre anyway. Then there's the fact I can in theory fly from any airport i the UK that suits me, TPT generally only fly from 2 or 3 airports, they might not be viable for everyone. As I said, TPT is good for some, not others. No one way of doing things is right or wrong. Nobody will convince me to travel with TPT and at the same time I'm sure there some loyal TPT users who would not consider doing things on their own. One advantage of TPT is you can travel on your own to avoid the situation Sue mentions above, again, not for me though, if I went to a meeting abroad I'd want to be with friends. crazysue
In defence, I actually did the Prague one with TP and much preferred where we were staying as we got the normal rates for food etc but only a 10 minute walk from the main tourist area. My Danish trip I posted about cost way less than £200, £40 for the flights, £50 for the hotel (which I didn't need to pay) , free VIP GP ticket plus spares ( ) and around £20 for all the trains needed plus maybe around another tenner for the taxis...think the most money I spent was on alcohol at the GP as the price for food was not that bad plus of course, I got treated by the lovely gentlemen who escorted me back to the hotel. I did go on a DIY trip to Italy organised by Chivsy...again extremely cheap and because Chivs did all the arrangements the experience was brilliant. We hired a car, the cost of which was split 5 ways, GP tickets were dirt cheap, flights were approx about £30 a person and the hotel for 3 nights was £120 for 2 of us. It cost for both me and my son just over £200 for the basics plus maybe another £50 for food and drink while there. Edit ..... SCB I agree regarding the DIY trips, the only reason why I posted my Denmark experience was to show what could go wrong. I was supposed to be with a friend who was also bringing some of her friends but once she pulled out, so did the others leaving me billy no mates! 2ndBender
I go with TP Tours because they deal with all the hassle for me, and I'm happy to pay them to do that. When I was younger, I happily organised things for myself, on the cheap, and had good and bad experiences. And that was long before the Internet made it as easy as it is today. Nowadays, I want to be looked after - I want my flights, hotels, transfers, stadium tickets and local excursions all sorted, and I want them to be good quality. TP Tours are the best in the business, and that's what I pay them for.
colin
On the Prague trip it mentions a trip to the Jawa factory. Has anyone been? is it any good? cheers Colin

TwoMinuteWarning
This year - and probably next year - we did 3 meetings in 3 days on the Prague trip with TP Tours, with meetings at Mseno and Divisov. Many of the TP trips include other meetings apart from GP's. TP ain't cheap, but you just turn up and everything is done for you. When I was in my 20's I did trips on my own (and it wasn't anywhere near as easy in the 70's as it is today, believe me!) , these days I just let a reliable company organise it all. Each to their own!
Joanne
The good thing about TP is that you can meet nice people on the trip like Two Minute Warning (that's a big smartie point for me )
lucifer sam
Last year I went to Prague from the Thursday to the Tuesday for under £200. Accommodation was £100, flights £55, tram tickets less than £5, GP ticket and a programme for about £15. That's only £275. With the remaining £25 I got very merry in the stadium for about 80p a pint. It's looking a little more expensive this year but still only about £50 more unless the flights drop in price which is not likely.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> SCB, you may have edited your post, but the maths still do not work: 100+55+5+15=175 not 275 All the best Rob

BigFatDave
Another plus point for TPT is that when they travel to exotic locations they'll engage the services of a local interpreter to assist with any language difficulties - that's why on the upcoming tour of Oz you'll be able to converse fluently with the average Aussie. Rob B
This said, in these days of the Internet it's dead easy to organise everything yourself, so long as you're prepared for something to go wrong on the odd occasion, then you can do it a bit cheaper now. I'd be a bit surprised though if you're really doing a GP weekend for GBP 200 - when you take into account flights, hotels, getting to/from the airport, parking at the airport, transfer from the airport, GP tickets and so forth... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> £200? Don't think its ever cost us more then £150 to do a foreign GP, nowadays we do them for around £100! I see the advantage of the likes of Travel Plus for the single person etc wanting to go abroad but I still think they rip off to make a profit. Years ago Peter Ballinger use to organise trips to Slovenia and Norway and sorted out all the transport with coaches & hotels and charged less then half the price of Travel Plus. BigFatDave
YOU? "Average" BFD???? I don't think so!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Here's a few simple phrases to help out: "Where are you going with my wallet, you bigfatb******?" becomes: "Help yourself, BFD, I'll have a half". "Omigod, where the **** are we?" translates as: "Its OK, BFD, I'll shout us a cab". "Has anyone seen my Wife and 18-year-old Daughter?" becomes: "Has anyone seen BFD?" Hope this helps. Yes, I've been on one of his trips. It was well organised, although it was more him doing it at cost-price for his mates rather than an officially-organised thing wasn't it? Kevin Meynell
Another plus point for TPT is that when they travel to exotic locations they'll engage the services of a interpreter To be honest, that isn't much of a selling-point these days. To return to what's being discussed on another thread, practically everyone involved in the European tourist industry speaks English to some extent these days.
