350's as support for Oz titles ??

Recommended Posts

I'm all for a 350cc Championship also.

Obviously the 350 bikes are a stepping stone and a good one at that but the racing is so competetive there may as well be a championship.

Was talking to Jason Crump in Brisbane today, he stepped off the 125's as a 14 year old, he said he was just too big, and that is true of many junior riders.

As an example of how the 350 class has improved things already, Jason gave an example of one rider stepping off a 125cc bike at Mildura and jumping straight on a 500 after turning 16 the following week.

The problems will arise as inexperienced juniors step off the 125's and onto the 350's before they are ready, in my opinion that will happen sooner rather than later and will probably take a bit of gloss off. The current crop on the 350's are without exception all pretty talented riders but some kids may make the jump before they are ready.

I guess that could easily be the case with the 500's anyway.

Any club or promoter can ran the 350 championship they just have to put there hand up to ran it.

Some comments on the 350 racing in Newcastle

Some of Australia’s most talented Speedway youngsters were sldo given the opportunity to strut their stuff in front of a huge Newcastle crowd on Wednesday night.

Four of our best junior riders – Alex Davies, Todd Kurtz, Darcy Ward and Tyson Nelson, raced in six heats throughout the evening on their 350cc machines – a capacity recently introduced into Australian junior racing by Motorcycling Australia.

Davies, Kurtz and Ward were all part of the Australian contingent that competed in Poland at the Youth Gold Trophy event in July last year, and all three impressed throughout their heats.

Davies, who won three of the six races was happy with the way he performed:

“It was great – I topped the night off with a win and having done that with no final, it was pretty good,” he said.

“I was pretty ordinary towards the start of the night, but got much better towards the end of the night and that’s where I shone.

“The 350 is so much better than the 125. The 125’s are a great stepping stone and everyone has to come through it, but the 350’s are great.”

The night was a reality check for Kurtz who also gave the 350’s the big thumbs up.

“It was definitely tough out there. I need to get back to the gym I think because I am pretty buggered!” he said.

“It has been great to be a part of the Australian Championship series, so hopefully it will go for a bit longer.

“The 350’s are awesome. It is a big step from the 125’s to the 500’s, and the 350’s just fill it in a bit, so that’s a big help.”

Ward managed to win a heat, and was very consistent with three third placings, as he prepares for an assault at the Under 16 Championship which will be held in WA later this month.

“The Under 16 Championship should be good – it will be a big track, it’s going to be hard with a lot of good riders, but hopefully I will come away with a win.”

The 2008 Australian Speedway Solo Championship heads to the Sydney Showground for the final round on Friday.

Thanks for that Chopper. Yes the 350's were great and very equal, to see four riders side by side after three laps is just so good, the crowd lapped it up!

Dunno what we've got tonight but I should imagine there'll be something spectacular to end the series.:o:rolleyes:

Couldn't agree more about the size thing; to see Justin Sedgeman straddling his 125 at Gillman was almost cruel & unusual, and he's only about 5'6'' or so! :D

I know what you mean BFD, you wanna see Matty Cheshire on his. I dunno where Matt gets his height from but it certainly isn't his short arsed old man, who i gotta say was absolutley flying around Pinjar on Saturday night.

Come the Ron Johnson Memorial next week i think Noddy Holder and the rest of the Eastern staters will want to bring there A game. :P

Not finalised but, Chris and James Holder, Trev Harding, Dave Cheshire, Daniel Winchester, Carly Gittus, Frank Killeen, Bobby King. I think one or two others were thinking of coming from the East but nothing has been confirmed.

You've got a suspicious mind, Tracky!!

I'm sure there's a few ex-riders and spannermen out here who can update 'em on deviosity!

Another great ad for 350's at Sydderney last night; its a big daunting track but some of these kids are Fearless!

I think the likes of Mitch Shirra should get on one, that would help the Kid's even more... :D

Noddy's out, Jason Doyle in. Chris concentrating on the U21's, which is fair bump in my books, he's had a bit on his plate in the last coupla weeks.

Mind you the promoters could have done a bit better than just relying on Lee Redmond to bring the team back over here and not asked any other riders who may have been interested ie Cam Woody
