asturmer
You were mentioning being worried about running out of dope and talk of the size of the track.I just mentioned that in Poland and here in Germany(my local track is about 393m)they have tracks the same size(i would imagine).Plus it can get pretty damn hot here in Europe too ya know <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Its a different intensity of heat here as the sun burns in 5 minutes and you should come to Perth on a 40 degree day to understand how it feels! I used to think it was hot in Spain till I came here! It drains you so much if working and even when not working you dont feel like doing anything! It has been 40 degrees centigrade still at 7 p.m. when racing begins! Thankfully on many days we have the fremantle doctor wind which blows up in the afternoon and cools things down, but the suns intensity remains! Bagpuss
Could it be that the likes of Jason, Leigh, Adam, Shane et al chose themselves not to contest the Aussie champs this year for very valid reasons indeed such as a.) wishing to rest after a very hard European season b.) at the same time spending time with their families (who don't get to see THAT much of them in our season!), relations and friends back in their native land c.) in Rory S's case not going at home at all as he had just bought property in the UK etc etc etc? It might be a shame from our point of view sitting here at home but think of them eh ? I'm sure all thought long and hard before deciding not to enter for perfectly good reasons. And that is hardly anybody's fault. Speedway riders are, believe it or not, human! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Appreciate ALL of that Bryn but you still can't convince me that the Aussie Title doesn't lack something (quite a lot in fact) bcause of the non participants! Once again though well done to Noddy (and Troy) for five great performances. At least Bryn your reply was constructive
Bryn
Appreciate ALL of that Bryn but you still can't convince me that the Aussie Title doesn't lack something (quite a lot in fact) bcause of the non participants! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That indeed is a fair comment but I really can't see the situation changing UNLESS the GP series is extended to include Australia. But, if (and it's still a big if!) that were to happen with Australia included as a venue in a much-expanded GP series, that in itself could lead to more non-participants in our own Elite League. Trees
Appreciate ALL of that Bryn but you still can't convince me that the Aussie Title doesn't lack something (quite a lot in fact) bcause of the non participants! But on your rules Bagpuss, Leigh Adams titles were hollow too cos not all the aussies competed in the last few years when he won?? Schlein is the only young rider who has still to prove himself capable of winning an aussie title, I wouldn't have liked to have bet against Chris beating him over the series either though I hope, for the sake of the aussie fans, that all the up and coming aussies continue to race for the title over the coming years. But of course when they are regularly racing in 4 leagues and have partners and children perhaps racing during the close season at home won't be quite so appealing ............... Yes i can imagine.Plus my question about track size was also answered in that the track is (i think)480m,which in Europe would make it a longtrack rather than speedway track. So i can understand the worries now.And i had no idea at what time the meetings was run there nor what the temps were You must have guessed that the riders didn't want to cut the races down to 3 laps on a whim though?? Obviously the big guns last year held more sway over the ref!! Edited January 12, 2008 by Trees

Can't remember there being nine or ten riders absent when Adams won his title(s) though. I'm not pretending that I have an answer to the problem either! But what a great Championship it would be if all the top Aussies competed. Edited January 12, 2008 by Bagpuss

But who cares, Leigh's name is down in aussie speedway history for all time just as Chris's is, in 100 years time only the rider's name on the trophy will get noticed I guess ................ At TPCR Skip Jackson (USA) won the A Main, which took 55 minutes for 30 laps , with Bad Boy Benny the NT Tearaway third, great to get a podium for him! Steve Kinser DNF. At Gosford Noddy won AGAIN!! spiderweb
Dam you get around BFD I have always wanted to go to PCR to see the "The things with wings" Back to the Solos Well done to Noddy he really has come of age as the next best thing look out the GP circuits! Also to Cam 3rd Aussie always over shadowed by Chris and Troy but he is one to watch. Arron Summers & Tom Hedley look out for them in the next couple of years. Well its all over now and a few weeks break then the build up to the Aussie Sidecar Title looking like we may have a couple of Britts over for the quail fly meeting maybe riding local bikes! Coming down for that one BFD The Royal arms beckons!

In theory thats three quarters of arguably the strongest possible line up (not counting foreign guests) missing............ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know where you are coming from but if you were here for the titles it's undeniable that Chris Holder has "it", that indescribable quality that separates the champions from the rest. I'd go as far to say that Adams & Crump would be the only ones that would have beaten him, he was that good and that impressive. In the final at Sydney it was sheer willpower that got him to the front, nothing else.
Bagpuss
Again I agree that Noddy has 'it', he's a special talent. And he probably would have been challenging for a rostrum place in a full field. Doesn't alter the fact that it was a very watered down championship though! Crouch
And get off your high horse while you are at it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, I won't be doing that - sorry.
