norbold
Why do I seem to have one Speedway Star missing from each year??? No, that's not the question I need help with... This time, it's riders, no.of rides, points, bonus points for New Cross riders in the match against Stoke at home on 9 July 1963. The results would be in the July 20th edition of Speedway Star & News. Thank you.

I remember a meeting at New Cross in 1946 when I wheeled his bike from his car to the pits gate, then did the same thing for his team-mate the South African Keith Harvey. I think I was paid sixpence. But this was early in 1946 and sixpence was not an unreasonable sum for about four or five minutes effort. http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/oldtimespeedway Edited December 2, 2007 by speedyguy

speedyguy
Thanks, andout. That's brilliant and much appreciated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The name of Sharpe - was it Ron Sharpe? He was a New Cross junior in 1952-53, then had a spell in the Southern Area League with California. Sharpe was a protege of the former Wimbledon, West Ham, Southampton and Liverpool leg-trail rider George Bason. http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/oldtimespeedway

norbold
Just one question, andout. Was that Reg Reeves or Eddie Reeves? I think it must have been Eddie as I believe Reg was injured at about that time, wasn't he? Edit: Just seen your post, iris. Oh dear, that doesn't help! Further edit: The match score was New Cross 35 Stoke 43, which is what andout's adds up to. Your programme, iris, comes out at New Cross 37 Stoke 41. So, I'll go along with andout's! steve19620
Hi there. A look at the Speedway Star for that week confirms Stoke did win 43-35. The heat details published show the following error in Iris 123 details. Ht 8: Bodie (2nd), Sharp (3rd) - Its does not change the match result. 2nd half Final - Jarman, Squibb, Adams, Pratt (yes they did publish the second half details in those days !) Hope this clears up the mystery. Edited December 2, 2007 by steve19620
norbold
Thanks steve. One last question...Eddie or Reg? iris, I'm not sure what you mean by: "In my programme it is Eddie, who has replaced the printed Reg and moved from no.6 into the no.7 spot." Are you saying that Reg was originally at no. 7, but Eddie replaced him by being moved from the team to reserve? Sounds unlikely. And who came in at no 6? Terry Stone? Was he not on the original programme? Edited December 2, 2007 by norbold
speedyguy
Cant remember that match Norbold but I was at the last meeting at the Frying Pan ,was it August in that year ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In an article about New Cross on the oldtimespeedway yahoo site its says: "Hoskins relinquished his interest at the end of 1961. Speedway was back on April 12, 1963, when promoter Wally Mawdsley entered the team in the Provincial League, but they folded in mid-season. The last match was on August 2 when visiting Poole won 41-37." http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/oldtimespeedway Edited December 4, 2007 by speedyguy
