Lake Bodom Comet
Tomi Reima.......Kiitos hyvaa!!! Please to report Tomi made an excellent start to his Workington career F-S-P! An impressive win in heat 6 when he teamed up with Daniel Nermark for a 5-1 and a 2nd place in heat 13 was more than creditable against a fired up Sheffield Tigers team. Considering how some of the other Finnish imports have struggled in the Premier League Tomi looks like he can do the business!!! Afterwards he said once he gets the gearing figured out for Derwent Park and his equipment arrives from Suomi he hopes to do even better..... Suprised no one had signed him before Workington! After waiting so long to get a chance in British Speedway the Silver Bullet is certainly impressing the Comets fans already! Nice to report on some good news for the Finnish contingent in GB, lets hope it can inspire Makinen and Keskinen...........

The current official table. It looks like it's 8 for a win. I dont know why, smarter people than me have decided on these things. The rules I have have apparently changed after Vaasa pulled out. Haapajärvi has one point taken of because they didn't have a full team at Kauhajoki. Lake Bodom Comet
MIKA KALLIO - SPEEDWAY BACKGROUND??? I have been reading an article in British magazine 'Motor Cycle Racer' about Finnish 250cc Moto GP rider Mika Kallio. It mentioned he first started out in Ice Racing and was a former Finnish 500cc Ice- Racing champion. Do they mean Ice-Speedway or is there other types of Ice-Racing championships for bikes in Finland?? I seem to remember that the greatest Finnish motorcyclist of all time Jarno Saarninen had came from a speedway/ice speedway background and this is where he learned his unusual(at that time) riding style of leaning over 'speedway style' when riding the bends of the track Maybe F-S-P or other Finns can provide some info on this?? f-s-p
Pictures from Kuusankoski. Extraliiga round 3/10 at Lahti on sunday was postponed/cancelled because of rain as was the 80cc round at the same track. At this very moment they are staging a two day training camp for the Finnish federation Junior team, or whatever it's called in English. Mika Kallio has never ridden ice racing or speedway. I dare to say this even without checking if it's fact or not. I know of a mutual friend who always teases him that he WILL ride an ice racing bike when the opportunity come's along. The situation I'm told always ends the same, Kallio laughs and says "Never!" Finland has a pretty active iceroadracing scene (pics), alltough it has been somewhat affected by the climate change in the past two years. This is also what Mika Kallio does during the winter. Some say it helps him, but I remember a couple of years ago that his KTM boss believed it ruined his style. Maybe, maybe not. Jarno "Paroni" Saarinen didn't ride speedway either. This is what I was just told, but we are having it double checked at the moment. Saarinen apparently just realised that if you stick your leg out it brakes the bike and thats how he came up with the idea to use his leg while cornering. This is also being doublechecked at the moment. Edited June 16, 2008 by f-s-p
Lake Bodom Comet
Kiitos F-S-P for such a detailed reply on the ice-racing exploits of Kallio and Saarinen! Also cheers for the photo link. Your knowledge of anything and everything to do with motorcycling in Finland is impressive Would be interesting to see Kallio have a go at speedway for real Hope you enjoyed your night with Kylie! f-s-p
Kylie was a disappointment after seeing George Michael at the same place a year earlier. Cant believe I decided to see her over Foo Fighters... I'm really sorry but I have to leap down from the heights you're raising me in to LBC. It's not that impressive... Info arrived yesterday that the qualifier for the national final has been re-located to Pori. The fence re-vamp at Seinäjoki isn't going to be finished in time. This was very sad and bad news to my ears. The same club that was crying out for others to work harder so we could have more meetings hasn't had a one complete meeting at their hometrack this season. No practise has taken place either after the first week of May. Hopefully they will at least get the fences up during this season. Lineup for the Finnish Individual Championship qualifier. 11+2 will go through to Haapajärvi to the final. The date is somewhere earlier in this thread. My predictions to the final in bold. 1. Kalle Katajisto 2. Aarni Heikkilä 3. Joni Keskinen 4. Teemu Lahti 5. Niko Siltaniemi 6. Jani Eerikäinen 7. Markku Autio 8. Timo Lahti 9. Aleksey Poptsov RU 10. Petteri Koivunen 11. Jukka Nieminen 12. Juho Ruuska 13. Petri Koskela 14. Aki-Pekka Mustonen 15. Juha Mäkelä 16. Marko Suojanen Tomi Reima, Kaj Laukkanen, Tero Aarnio, Rene Lehtinen and Juha Hautamäki are seeded for the final. Jari Mäkinen, Kauko Nieminen and Joonas Kylmäkorpi were not interested. Well actually they hadn't signed up for it in time, but to me thats the same. I can perfectly understand too why Nieminen and Kylmäkorpi arent, but do wonder why Mäkinen isn't interested.
