f-s-p
They've now updated the federation website with this information regardin our 80cc competition. This looks to be the final table. N stands for NON-starter and the ones in brackets are not considered for the total score, as only best eight from each rider was taken in to account. 1. Mika Loppi --------- SeMK --- N --- 25 --- 25 --- 25 --- 25 --- 25 --- 25 --- N --- N --- 25 --- 175 2. Mika Hyyryläinen - SsMK --- 20 --- 16 --- (6) -- 20 --- (7) -- 11 --- 20 --- 10 --- 20 --- 8 --- 125 3. Vili Hautala ----- KauhjMK --- N --- 9 --- 16 --- 10 --- 10 --- 20 --- N --- 25 --- 25 --- 7 --- 122 4. Jiri Nieminen ------ SsMK --- 10 --- 13 --- N --- (9) -- 20 --- 13 --- 13 --- 20 --- 13 --- 11 --- 113 5. Jooa Partanen ---- KMMK --- 25 --- (6) -- 7 --- 7 --- 13 --- 9 --- N --- 16 --- 16 --- 13 --- 106 6. Niilo Vuolas -------- HjMK --- 11 --- (10) - 13 --- 11 --- 16 --- (7) -- 16 --- 13 --- 11 --- 10 --- 101 7. Jarkko Palmi ------ SeMK --- N --- 20 --- 10 --- 16 --- 8 --- 16 --- 8 --- N --- N --- 20 --- 98 8. Tomi Lahti -------- KMMK --- 13 --- 11 --- 8 --- 13 --- 6 --- 10 --- N --- N --- N --- 16 --- 77 9. Vikke Kuhanen ---- SsMK --- 16 --- (5) -- 9 --- 6 --- 9 --- 6 --- 10 --- 11 --- 10 --- (5) -- 77 10. Vili Mattila ----- KauhjMK --- 8 --- 7 --- 20 --- 8 --- 11 --- 8 --- 9 --- N --- N --- N --- 71 11. Jere Lehtonen ------ PMK --- 9 --- 8 --- 11 --- 5 --- N --- N --- 11 --- N --- N --- 9 --- 53 12. Antti Vuolas -------- HjMK --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- 9 --- 6 --- 15 13. Aapo Lohvansuu --- HjMK --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- N --- 8 --- N --- 8 The big mystery in this was the amount of cup points to be given. According to the federation rules a winner should get 25, 2nd 20 and so on. BUT if there was only nine participants or less, you were only gonna get 10 for the win and so on. This was brought up during the season and even that there's been no official statement on this, I'd say they've now decided that each win was worth 25 points. f-s-p
Eastbourne have confirmed that they will have Appe Mustonen as their number 7 in 2009 Who is he then Brian?Never heard of him.Are Eastbourne still in the EL then or dropping down? WOW! So a rider that has complained the most about money and how it should be spent makes a move like this... I have no problems believing it, though it wasnt at the Eagles website when I looked a minute a go. Mustonen has strong connections with both Tyrväinen family and Joonas Kylmäkorpi so "it's/it was all there" for him to make a move like this. This meaning accommondation and such. Appe will turn 19 next year and did well this year in Finland. Has no experience outside Finland in 500cc, since EC pairs isn't excatly noted within BSPA. From the other thread I found a link to an article that says: "Eighteen-year-old Finn Appe Mustonen has been identified as the young Scandinavian prospect Eagles intend to bring in at the No. 7 spot next season." Cant read that as confirmation. Edited November 20, 2008 by f-s-p
f-s-p
Looks like the Mustonen move is real after all. Good luck to him! Finland had its own track racing conference last saturday. As a result it looks like this "Finnish News" thread will continue next year too, making it the 4th on the trot. Same people are running the show next year for the federation with practically the same rules in the leagues (4TT in Extraliiga). Pori will host the individual final and Haapajärvi got the U21's. Seinäjoki will try to organize the qualifier again for the individual title (I think it'll come good this time), they also got the pairs. Forssa has the Nordic longtrack final and Vaasa got the national lt final. Petri Meritähti is introducing microspeedway here for next year. The same model will be applied here that has apparently saved danish speedway. A package will be offered for interested people available for purchase on a "road tour" for kids above 3 years of age for around 400 €. Thats targeted to include everything from bike to boots. More info later, as all the details will emerge. Sounded good with people getting behind the program too. Jyri Palomäki and Mikael Teurnberg will continue coaching the youngsters. They have their first camp next weekend. I will once again say that the boys willing to take their views and work to improve themselves are the ones that come good in a couple of years. In my opinion.

Appe Mustonen has been selected as the 2nd ever Speedwaysanomat U21 rider of the year. Mustonen won the national qualifier at Pori with maximum points earlier in the season and then lead the final after the preliminary heats with his 13 points. Congratulations Appe! f-s-p
Another positive alltough not as positive news is the info on Timo Villanen. Villanen crashed badly in the season opener at Seinäjoki in -08. In the crash three of his vertebra's on his spine (online translation) were crushed and a three ribs were broken with one of them puncturing his lung. Villanen was kept in sleep for two weeks after the surgery the day after the crash. After that he was moved to Vaasa where he stayed at the hospital for six weeks. Four months in a nursing home (online translation again) in Helsinki helped him to adjust to his new life in a wheelchair. It also gave him a lot of mental strenght, as there were alot of people that had it worse. Villanen has now spent the last two weeks back home in Vaasa with his girlfriend and the couple is planning on buying a home of their own. Villanen is also looking forward to going back to work as plateblacksmithwelder (online trlor again), the job he had before his accident. Villanen's message to people is, that these things happen in other sports too: "If I were to stand up again on my own feet, you'd most likely see me on a bike again." This from the latest issue of Speedwaysanomat, out today. I for one wish him all the best...

Puma23
Hi f-s-p I put your on my website in credits and home page. I can change your nickname if you do not prefer surname. I am sure that it is very difficult but can you do the same with season 1996 or 1995 ? (Any details) Look at http://www.lubusports.pl/mat05/dmfinlandii.php You can see that Finnish League is completed in years 1997-2008. f-s-p
Finnish ice racing riders got together last week at Rovaniemi for a training camp organised by "Team Hopeapiikit". The plan was to get some action and the camp apparently was a success. Antti Aakko, Kai Lehtinen, Joni Kontoniemi, Jussi Hytönen, Jouni Seppänen, Janne Vilponen and Tommy Flyktman are the Finns for the World's qualifiers. Henri Malinen will ride in the EC semi and the U21 EC final. Team for the team final will be announced later and I'm not mistaken, we also had a seede place in the EC final. Vicar
In one Polish portal there is recommendation of Kauko Nieminen and Juha Hautamaeki. There was written that in Nieminen are interested clubs from Ostrów, Daugavpils, Gniezno and Krosno. About Hautameki Daugavpils, Opole, Krosno, Rawicz and Równe are thinking. Cant see either of them at Daugavpils purely because of logistics. Nieminen wants to concentrate to UK (possibly double down) and has already a contract for thursdays in Sweden too. Hautamäki will probably want to ride in any of the polish leagues, but also has a deal for thursdays and will probably ride all the Finnish meetings too. f-s-p
Thats it for 2008! This time Finnish News got over 35% more views compared to last year (I'm now logging off at 49 views per post), so perhaps this was worth doing again. We also had an alltime high of Finnish riders in the British leagues. Some of them were just tourists but still it tells us that there are riders willing to give it a go. Thats nice. Please remember to wear goggles while doing it and have an injury free New Years Eve, please. Over and out...
