Big Meeting At Poole

Recommended Posts

well he was in the stand by the tapes for the last few races and just before the final he was escorting harry redknapp down to the centre green, so he wasn't anywhere near the pits!!

Ford comes across as a decent guy and am sure he would have had nothing to do with the fixing and was probably livid when told they had decided before the race to split the £60k equally meaning the final meant nothing.

Steve seems to be oblivious to the revelation as he has failed to comment at all,

and is indeed particularly conspicuous by his absence.

Can you imagine if this had occurred at Coventry ?.

How can Shovlar be expected to comment? Matt Ford hasn't commented on the event yet so how will Shovlar know what he should say.

Here you go then, I'll make it quite simple for you, as you've now changed from the original point to arguing about opinions and whether or not Nicki wanted to ride here. I asked Nicki the very same question during the close season, and his answer was:

Can we put this to bed now? That must be categoric enough for you, unless you want me to put a date on when I asked the question (which I can do.)

waits for Stevebrum to say that is only Nicki's opinion safrican american

At the end of the day, Nicki still won the 60,000 and it's up to him what he does with it. If he wants to stick with the agreement made before the race then it's up to him. If he'd wanted to change his mind and pocket the lot, then that, too, would have been up to him.

I don't know why everyone gets so hung up on what other people do with their money. It's up to them (as long as it's legal).

Well, of course no one is suggesting that anything has been done illegally, but I wonder if anyone could enlighten on exactly how the 'split-up' of the money will work.

Surely, Nicki will have won the money, been given the cheque and that will go down in his tax return as £60,000 earned income (on which he will pay his tax, somehwere); so just how will the £15,000 payments go to the other riders and how will they be classed for taxation etc, earned income or gifts from N.Pedersen Esq?

I can't help pondering just how it all this looks to the uncommited observer; the winner of a sporting event gives the second, third and fourth placed competitors £15,000 each after the event... to many people on this forum it is described as a worthy gentleman's agreement... but can't you just see that to much more cynical and distrusting eyes it could end up in a 'Sunday Mirror' exclusive of the type we had in the mid-eighties...

Is it me or is the silence coming from the most deluded & voicefrous Poole mouthpieces over this 60k, deafening

I don't think its silence, most of the Poole fans have had their say. Its people like you who weren't there and were probably slagging off this meeting before long before sunday who are repeating themselves over and over.

I agree that what those 4 finalists decided does make a slight mockery of the 'richest minute in speedway' tag. But I don't feel cheated, I think they all raced to win and I had a great day on Sunday, the only disappointment was Chris Harris who was awful.

It was a decision the riders have to defend, not Poole promoters or fans.

Can't disagree with you at all Hector. Generally speaking, I admire the ambition and innovation of the Poole promotion and I can't help feeling they (and the supporters) have been badly let down by the riders on this occasion. Amongst them they effectively killed off the whole point of the meeting. I hope the Poole promotion don't take this lying down and I hope the SGP takes note...the last thing we want to see is another four riders going through the motions for $50k each at the last GP of the season.

To be honest Hector and Pirate Nick, no-one is asking the pirates fans to defend this.

I would however be interested to hear what Steve has to say in defence (or otherwise) of this incident.

To be honest Cowboy I think we are all waiting with baited breath especially after he reads the Steve Johnson testimonial thread (really quite amusing).

IM SURE THE LAST THING MATT FORD would have thought before the final is that the riders agreed to share the money,so i owe him an apology.ive calmed down a bit now but i would still like to get to the bottom of how this shambles came about ,As for the race well aj was giving it some on the bends but the rest as they are all top speedway racers were just going through the motions and its quite easy for them because they are class riders.

I agree entirely. The Poole promotion cannot be criticised for their lofty ambition, and the riders have let them down badly.

All the best

Rob

Personally I dont care about the split (so long as those who placed money on the race dont feel aggrieved) and I do feel some of the comments to be over the top but these clips do lighten things up a bit and should be treated as such.

Ford is coping some of the blame and in my opinion WHY? Im sure these four adults were able to make this decision between them.

But Keith, how long do you spend trawling the net for appropriate photo's. Funny but sad!!!:lol:

JESUS PEOPLE, CALM DOWN!

I've heard of this kind of thing (splitting the prize money before the final) several times before in regards in individual meetings through-out the years, so why all the song and dance!??

A lot of fuss about nothing if you ask me!

Its happened before, it'll happen again... Speedway riders are for the most part competitive and racers, so once their financial security was sorted they went out and gave it their all on track!
