spin king
It doesn't suprise me in the slightest. Before the final the riders must have thought they have a 25% chance of winning it. Or, they could all have £15,000 each guarenteed. I know which one I would take. Still, history says N Pedersen won the £60,000 and he has the cheque! I can understand why the riders did it but don't you feel a little cheated.
Nevs
Did they seriously agree to split the prize before the final??

bigcatdiary
You should read the Leatt neck brace thread. Rabs, I firmly believe that Hans Andersen hasn't done better in the GPs for the very same reason. No it was a bike problem last year, that has been rectified
Rob B
An absolutely brilliant idea......until you cross the line first! No wonder he wasn't going barmy over winning it. He had just given away £45,000!!!!!! Especially giving £15,000 to Jonsson who doesn't need the money, he can stick it with the £50,000 towards his second Ferrari. Steve Shovlar
Agreee nearer 5000 than 3500. Reason being the grandstand was so packed. Not a spare seat. With league meetings when the grandstand is classed as full there's always a bit more room as fans tend to ignore the bench numbers and areas and sit anywhere. No pics yet. Might be some on the Poole site later. Plenty of press there. Expect a big report on Meridian Tonight and BBC South today. Interestig point about Nicki's Tax return. Yes, i feel splitting does detract. Perhaps they should have kept that quiet as the point was a race over 4 laps, not an agreed share out before the final. PhilK
Very enjoyable day out, good meal in the restaurant, some decent racing on view, and that Speedway smell again Pedersen was a deserved winner as many have said, but was most impressed by Holder and the Russian. Holder looks like he will make the move up with ease, and looked a lot less ragged than he did at times in PL company last year. The Russian is an out an out racer and hopefully he will be riding full time in the UK soon. Good to catch up with BobC, Brendan & Dave, and of course to meet Rabbit. Only downer was the pompus t**t of a restaurant manager, but hey 1 in over 3,000+ is well below the national norm

Guest Schumi
What FACTS are you giving me? Like you say unless your NP you cant possibly know what is truth or not. Im not saying anyone is lying - im JUST saying there may or may not be more to it. So not strictly wrong. if he is asking for increase in wages and lets say the club cannot afford it who is right and who is wrong?? As for what he asked for here. only 2 (or 3) people would know that NP, his management and Chris Van Stratten. If you want facts im sure CVS may enlighten us on Wednesday night at the forum. I think its fairly clear that by the time Eastbourne had decided not to use him and averages were announced it made it very diificult to fit him in . As he has stated he only wanted to ride for Eastbourne and they decided not to use him , again who was right and who was wrong? Is that surprising after what the Wolves fans have said about him? Its something he hasnt heard at ANY track in the country. I believe its deeper than that as he allegedly said end of last year at Eastbourne. Support works both way . Right or wrong? Okay Steve, to answer your points. The facts I'm giving you are that Nicki and Martin Hagon have both said Nicki was forced out by the points limit - nothing to do with wages. I asked Nicki myself, so it's straight from the horse's mouth with no media manipulation or forming of opinions. You ask "if he was asking for an increase" - well there's no proof that's happened, despite my asking on several occasions. The fact there hasn't even been a rumour that Nicki asked for a pay rise here (forget Sweden and Poland - they're not relevant in this argument) suggests that figures weren't discussed with any promotion, but if anyone knows different then please tell me! Here are some more facts: The points limit was reduced, meaning the top few riders in the world had to be evenly split, and you risked the trade off between having an out and out number one or strength in depth. So Nicki could have stayed at Eastbourne. Wrong - Martin Hagon said as soon as he heard about the points limit being reduced it meant there wasn't a place for Nicki, although both sides have said they'd have liked to continue the rider/club relationship. I'd be willing to wager that finances weren't even discussed. Even if it were, Nicholls was reported to be asking for big money and they still signed him. Eastbourne have also stated that Nicki brings in the punters, meaning his wages are covered by the extra gates, so he's no financial risk (and at any rate, signing Nicki would have forced at least one of the top line Brits out of the British league. That would have really given people ammunition against Nicki, wouldn't it?) So, Eastbourne was ruled out because of the points limit - purely that, and nothing more. Lakeside were always going to have Andreas, Peterborough had Hans, Swindon have Adams, Belle Vue had Crump, Coventry had to lose one of their top riders anyway, so there was no way they could accommodate Nicki, Ipswich were always going to retain Louis, and as soon as Hampel made his intentions clear (well before the points limit was changed) he was destined for them, and Poole couldn't fit Nicki in for the same reason as Coventry. That only leaves Wolves - the one team who are most vehement in saying how much they don't want him, and who have publicly stated that PK would have been fitted into the team had he wanted to come back. They were obviously going to keep Freddie and David, meaning, again, there was no room for Nicki because of the points limit. Quite simply, Nicki was forced out due to not being able to be fitted in anywhere because of his average. Had he been on 7 points, I'm willing to bet that he would be riding in the British League this year, without a shadow of a doubt. Or do you disagree? And finally, your sentence I've highlighted in bold goes to prove my point - your own words, Steve.
190557
Poole grandstand only seats 1100. There were no more than 2000 people standing so the crowd, as the majority of other posters have said, was probably between 3000 and 3500. I travelled down on the day, payed and walked in at 2 pm with no trouble as far as queuing was concerned. Why did Matt Ford and others on this forum try and frighten people into not attending by saying that the place was virtually sold out? The meeting was billed as the richest race in speedway for the winner and thats what I went to see. We now hear that the the riders had rigged the race so that they shared the prize money. I now feel cheated and that I wasted £25. If riders want to make private arrangements about prize money why don't they at least have the good sense to keep it to themselves. I suppose the up side of telling us that the race was rigged is that I won't make the same mistake and attend an event like this again, should one ever be held. I wonder if Jonsson shared out his $100,000 last year in Germany and whether the prize money will be shared out this year. It will be hard for the GP organisers to sell a GP based on large prize money to the winner now we know this takes place.

You went to see the racing and the pull of the line-up, I assume, not to make a donation to any particular rider - you could have done that from home. There are many comments on the internet about this, all varied, but things such as "Nicki's taking £60,000 away from Britain". Goodness me, he shared his winnings - so what? I think it was a fantastic gesture, but it seems he would have been damned if he did, damned if he didn't.

John Leslie
In Bjarne second heat he switched bickes AFTER the heat had been started. You cannot switch bikes for a re-run. He should have been excluded for that. ooops..SCB gets it wrong again. Of course you can change machines for a re-run. In fact sometimes you have to change machines if the original is damaged.
