Barney Rabbit
SCB...you say cheats never prosper, and ask where was Bjarne? Why dont you ask the same about Crump? He was the villian of the moment. He touched the tapes and got penalised 15 metres. In the rerun,he VERY CLEARLY moved long before Bjarne touched the tapes, and he was penalised 15 metres.Crump should have been kicked out for cheating, not moved back to 25 metres.Bjarne was moving,I know that, but he only touched the tapes because of Crump moving a second time. That bizarre moment spoilt a very enjoyable meeting. It might just be me, but run this by me again. If Crump was penalised 15 metres wouldn't he have been behind Bjarne? How would he affect what Bjarne did at the start line 15 metres ahead? Unless, of course, JC covered the whole 15 metres handicap before Bjarne dropped his clutch!
pedropete
So after all that you wont get in unless you get there early crap it mey well have kept spectators away I totally agree. I got there at 1 0 clock and could have walked straight in. Went for a couple of drinks first and still had no trouble at all getting in. Quite a poor crowd really. I know a few people who did not travel because of all the rubbish talked about tickets. I reckon it knocked hundreds off the gate. How stupid. stevebrum
Well Done to Nicki Pedersen, giving the Elite League a view of what they are going to miss this season. it was partly his choice to miss iy by asking to much money. Couldnt care less personally. However i wish we could get ALL the top riders in this country Zabik first pull out of the season won't be his last . ouch - naughty naughty! Guest Schumi
Has it been disclosed why? Rabbit posted on the Poole forum he had a fall and hit the airfence. Seems to have walked back to the pits, but I imagine it knocked the stuffing out of him. Just for SteveBrum, and I'll post it as many times as I have to: There's an interview with Martin Hagon on WEDTF where he states this: Q..Was the decision to axe Nicki taken before the end of last season, or as soon as you came on board? A..I felt that with the new points limit we had no choice but to do this. Hope Sussex Bulldog doesn't mind me posting that. Even Nicki himself has said it was because of the points limit. Between the two of them I'd say it's pretty conclusive.

The stadium certainly looked pretty much full. ....were you two at the same meeting?

We all know its a family sport and the kids are taken by full paying adults. Yes we've heard all the "concert tickets have no reduction for children" etc but this is Speedway not a concert and the prices in our sport have always been structured between adults and children. But there you go its over now and you live and learn.

Steve Shovlar
Just got back from what has been an absolutely pleasurable weekend of Poole Speedway. First of all I must say congratulations to the promotion and everyone else in arranging and planning, and working on these two great events. makes me proud to be a fan of the club. Onto the meeting and we were blessed with sunshine and not too cold an afternoon. A brisk wind blowing so the track was watered regularly to keep any dust away. The riders didn't let us down with most putting in some great efforts. Most but not all, but hey that's the way it goes. Trouble with full grandstands is that they really squeeze you in. Not a spare seat anywhere. Designed when people weighed 9 stone not 12. Frank Ebdon was the ref so it went at a fair pace, which I approved of. Nothing worse than 21 heats dragged out over 4 hours! Some great racing and good times for the start of the season. Only one heat over 60 seconds! The riders were introduced to the fans and the usual pantomine boos went up when Nicki Pedersen was announced. He started badly, being well beaten into third place before Saifudinov fell and Pedersens bike conked out. He tried to push it from the forth bend to the tapes before the riders came around on their last lap but was lapped befored he could cross the line. That was really the last time he was headed all day. From that moment he stepped up a gear and the writing was on the wall well before the final came around. he even had the audacity to pick the worst gate (2) in the final and blasted away from the opposition to win at a canter. The right winner, and totally deserved. Well done Nicki Pedersen. Think its safe to say, baring any injuries or major misshaps, he is head and shoulders above every one else and a dead cert for this years WC. He dominated this like TRick dominated when he was riding. Controvesy ruled in heat 18. Crazy refereeing IMO. Crump went through the tapes when the ref held them for a long time. he was stuck back on 15 metres. In the rerun he held them even longer. Crump rolled a good half a bike forward, then Bjarne touched the tapes. Must have been five seconds. Instead of booting Crump out for moving first, he excluded both Crump and Bjarne! Crump went to 25 metres, and Bjarne to 15. What sense is that? If Crump moved before Bjarne, surely he was the cause and should have been the sole rider to have been penalised. As there was no tape for Crump to touch, he was still in the race. The heat gave Bjerre the win, which ended Crump, Holder and Bjarnes chances. Poor refereeing IMO. Others may see it a different way. I would like to hear their views. Harry Redknapp presented the winner with his cheque. A bit of a medi scrum, with TV and press in abundance. Difficult to hear exactly all of Redknapps comments due to the speaker in our section of the stand not working, but "blown away by the speed of these guys" was one of them. Again perhaps others heard more of what he said. Dave Lanning was on great form and making some very good observations. He thanked the crowd and said thank you to all who wanted him back at Sky to commentate on the speedway. He didn't say he was definately going to come back, but reading between the lines I think we will see the return of the progical son to the commentary booth. On to the riders and their performances today in rider order. 1.Chris Holder. Very unlucky not to have made the final. One more point and he would have been level with Adams ( though on countback would have missed out as Adams beat him) Superb debut at Poole and ten points is a remarkable acheivement. 2. Chris Harris. Totally awful. No excuses. Riding all over the place. Wrong lines, locking up, terrible. Left for dead in every heat other than his first heat, when he did gate, Holder went past him like he was standing still. For a Brit I expected better. 3. Adams. Excellent as always. Armchair riding ala Jimmy Neilsen. Smooth and fast. Deserved to be a finalist. 4.Kasprzak. Started terribly. Disappointing until his final two races. Not good enough and expected more. 5. Zabik. His second time at Poole and battled well but outclassed today. Took a bad tumble with first bend bunching and let the two reserves have an outing. Didn't seem injured. 6.Schlein. Did as expected. Had trouble staying on the bike and fell twice. Got one win in an easy heat when off a good gate but that was it. 7. Nicholls. Battled well all afternoon and in the thick of it. Desrved to be in the final and I was hoping he could win it. Alas it was not to be. 8.Crump. Never really looked like he was going to win it and after a win in his first never took the chequered flag agiain all day. 9. Andersen. For Andersen read Crump. Identical scores. 10. Bjerre. Usual effort from the Dane. Gate and win, miss it and nowhere. Nowhere most of the time today. 11.Sheilds. Bad day for him today and not at the races. 12.Watt. Same goes for watt though marginally better at 5 points. 13.Nicki Pedersen. After an ef in his first he looked a class above and was unchallenged for the rest of the meeting. Deserved winner. 14. Saifudinov. Young battler who really caught the eye. Six point haul in the best company. Matt sign him up for 2009, excellent prospect. 15. Bjarne. Started well but faded like Andersen and Crump. Heat 18 cost him a place in the final. Not that he would have beaten his namesake IMO. 16. Jonsson. Excellent effort and the top scorer by a point in the 20 herats. Had first choice in the final but was outgated. Runner up is first loser today. So we all left the stadium with a great meeting done and susted and hopefully no one injured, other than a bit of pride, and all ready to race another day. Brilliant. Steve Shovlar
It doesnt seem so, but at 1.30ish I did not queue at all got straight in then went to the bar no queue, found a seat, the stadium at that time was not full at all. Big crowd there today. Grandstand not a spare seat, 4-5 deep along the front of the grandstand, rows of people all the way around both bends. NOt sure how many were in the indoor stand as we can't really see in there because of reflections but when I walked to my seat it was very busy. Resteraunt was sold out. The kids question has been brought up a few times and I agree that there should have been a concession for kids in the standing area. Obviously with the grandstand full there's no point in giving discount a seat which is going to sell at its full price, but if kids had been let in for a tenner there might have been more of them. Still a very good crowd, and a proper way to start a big season for the club. PS would just like to say a well done to our mic man Nigel, who was excellent both last night and today. Got stuck in when the media were charging in on Pedersen after the win to interview him to the crowd. Well done Nij.
John Hannibal Thomas
10. Bjerre. Usual effort from the Dane. Gate and win, miss it and nowhere. Nowhere most of the time today. To be fair with a rubbishe track where racing is at a premium, you won't get racers like Bjerre entertaining the crowd!

colincooke
So what about passing manoeuvres for this meeting. After all we are reliably informed that Poole is well known for it's passing are we not. I may not have been present but i'm well aware of the facts. In the 1st 8 heats there we're actualy a fair few i'm told, 9 in all. After this tough such spectacles we're at a premium, with the dust playing it's part, not that bad a meeting taking that into consideration. Should have had a little more rain, where's god when you need him.
