Big Meeting At Poole

Recommended Posts

Plenty of places to eat quite close by. The George Pub on the roundabout just past the big Barclays building does your normal pub grub (couple of mins walk). Across the other side of the roundabout is a Chinese all you eat place and just along from that is a KFC. If you see an Asda if you come into town that way, then on the opposite side of the roundabout is the Rising Sun which does good Oriental style food - there's a car park there too. In the other direction up Wimborne Rd about 400 yds from the stadium entrance is a decent chippie and the Tatnam pub (although I can't vouch for the food in there, I've only ever had a lunchtime drink). I don't know what time you're planning on getting to the stadium but if you walk through the High Street to the quay, there are plenty of eating places all the way incl. MaccyDs and Burger King etc (it's well sign-posted from the large roundabout so you shouldn't have a problem finding anywhere). Also some snack bar type places in the Dolphin Shopping Centre although I can't guarantee they're open on a Sunday. Hope that helps. :)

It's a favourite BFD. ;)

Not long to go now. Really can't wait. Early start for this bunny, plenty to do before the gates open. Bazaar is going to be even more unbearable now, I just hope 'Arry isn't sat on the table next to his DJ station or nothing is gonna get done!!!

Think my biggest stress is going to be getting narked as the fiftieth person asks me about their table as my PC is now relocated directly under the bleedin' Restaurant Reception sign.;)

Have a great day Rabs-isnt everyday your club celebrates 60 years of existence.

Have fun, enjoy it,and I bet come Monday morning it will seem like the morning after the night before-and nothing can follow it ever again.

Must admit I shall be cheering on Barney, but I'm biased!!

Hope you have an enjoyable day rabbit, and anyone else who is going along. Hope the weather stays fine and the riders stay safe. :)

Thanks LW and also Nevsy xx :). Forecast isn't that bad considering what it could have been like...think Monday! Hope that everyone who comes to the meeting enjoys it and the riders put on a great show. There's a hell of a lot of effort gone into it by Matt and a lot of other people, and I think(hope) people will enjoy everything going on, it's like a who's who of ex-riders going to be there for a start, and if all goes to plan I think the blokes at least will quite enjoy something that's arranged. ;)

Had to read that twice

Rabbit don't forget the Lord Wimborne Wetherspoons on the high street, for those who like their food cheap and microwaved. ;)

I will also be cheering on Bjarne, I think it would be the perfect way to celebrate our Jubilee tomorrow if he wins the big prize.

I would quit while you are ahead Rabbit-you are sounding like Shovlar in his absence trying to milk the last few ticket sales.:lol:

Edit--just for a matter of interest it aint Andrea Corr singing "Breathless" on the infield in the break is it?If so I think I need to go get some Petrol pretty damn sharpish.

Think it's a bit late for that now Nevsy!

Hector...I purposely didn't mention the Lord Wimborne. We want people to remember Poole with a positive slant ;)

Thanks for the info. It is my 1st visit to the stadium and I was also wondering where the nearby eating places were.

Morning all.

The weather is absolutely perfect right now.We have had some of the wet stuff overnight, but not too much.More like light drizzle,as opposed to heavy rain.Just right for track watering etc.Bring a warm jacket though,as Im sure it will get a bit chilly later.

By the way, personally I would ignore the Tatnum Pub .Its only a hop skip and jump from my front door, and wouldnt set foot inside there if you paid me!

See you soon! :D

You can pay on the gate swc, but, remaining tickets are limited, and once they get to the max crowd allowed, the doors will have to be shut. If you don't have a ticket, I'd recommend getting there as early as poss to guarantee yourself one.

Bob's right, blue sky out there at the mo and the worst of the rain has gone.

Hope everyone travelling has good trips down and enjoys the day. I'm off to the stadium shortly and the butterflies are starting already. A combination of nerves and excitement. Can't wait! :approve:

Just got up after a fantastic nights entertainment at the Poole Gala evening last night. Though IMO there were too many there! By the time the riders of past and present were introducd we didn't start eating until 8.30 and finish by 11, with more intterviews by Dave Lanning, who was on superb form. This guy might be in the twilight years but boy does he have the gift of the gab and puts our current presenters to shame with his eloquence.

Notable absentees were TRick, who has cut out a dash for himself on Swedish TV and i in the semis of the dancing show. Just couldn't get away, and Schoie, who now resides in Australia.

Too many riders present to name but Rosco was enjoying himself and said he had applied for the post of manager of TeamGB. Toninio was there and got a good reception, but the biggest reception was saved for Cegeilski, who was cheered into the room. I think he will get the same reception this afternoon from a much bigger crowd.

Nigel did an excellent job of the show of through the ages and he worked well with Lanning, and Jim Lynch was good as auctioneer.

Karol Zabik and his manager were on our table and I can tell you he is a real charactor. Says it as it is and looked very cool.Talked about the passion of the Polish fans and the fact he can' go out in his home town to the pub because he will either get mobbed ( if they win) or lynched (if they lose!)

Said he was going to enjoy the whole experience today and didn't have any expectations. Said he had made best mates with Holder, who is in his team in Poland and Sweden. Said Skornicki was going to show him the fastest route around the tracks. Said Eastbourne was OK. Better than Lakeside which he hates! Said he wants to see more dirt on the Poole track. Not enough on it at P&P. Very happy being at Poole. Did say he has one clash in the fixtures which Poole are fully aware of. Didn't ask which meeting but guess we will find out when it arrives.

Sad to leave early but didn't want to leave. However, nice and fresh for the big day.

Good luck to eeryone attending this auspicious occasion today. 60 years - same as Monarchs are celebrating this year.

I suspect you're all going to be very fortunate. There's a major storm comin in from the north Atlantic tonight which will bring VERY high winds and heavy rain - near to hurricane force - to the south coast. From today's weather charts it should arrive a few hours after the meeting finishes, so fingers crossed.
