SCB
Shawn, I've seen this applied in a league meeting too. Rosco was put back twice for starting infringements for Poole at O*ford back in 2000 As was the case back then and AFAIK still the case if the rider is on a TS. However, if a rider rolls when 15 metres back he HAS to be excluded. 18.9.2 For a Starting Offence (SR 15.3.4) the Team Manager may in the re-run of the Heat either replace the excluded Rider with a Reserve (starting in the original position) or re-instate the excluded Rider, handicapped by 15 metres (see SR 15.3.7) except that: * If as a result of a 2nd or subsequent re-instatement it prevents SR 15.3.7 being complied with, the Team Manager foregoes the ability to make a choice – a Reserve Replacement being the only option. * For a second offence it is a mandatory exclusion with no replacement permitted. * If the offence is committed by a TS Rider s/he will be handicapped a further 10 metres for a first offence and excluded from the Heat for a 2nd offence. * If the offence is committed by a TS or TR Rider and a Reserve Replacement is chosen, the use of the TR / TS shall nevertheless count as a TR / TS ride i.e. it is forfeited but the Points scored by the Reserve do not count as double. Thats in a league meeting, in an individual, there is NO option to go 15 metres back.
f-s-p
Thats in a league meeting, in an individual, there is NO option to go 15 metres back. Unless of course such an option is stated in the supplementary regulations that have been given to the riders prior to the event. Just a thought... Nevs
i personally think it was a good gesture to share the prize money I would agree if it was AFTER the final heat had finished and the winner had said hey guys-lets just split it,but to agree before the final heat,if that is the case, short changes the public as each rider would not have been racing for four laps to try and win £60,000 as they were led to believe. oddfossengen
with no disrepect to anyone i think its time this subject is put to bed its over its done with end of if nikki p wants to split the money its up to him belive me if you saw the racing yesterday it was like they were taking a cut i think the word is prosesional
lucifer sam
Where I stood on the 4th Bend there were people standing four or five deep Rob. Looking to my left, following the bend round to the third, it didn't seem any different? I'd say about 5,000 spectators there today. Certainly many more than for a league meeting, which generally captures an audience of 3000- 3500 people. Well, when I was looking for somewhere to stand, I could walk up right to the fence on the third and fourth bend - hardly four or five deep. However, there was a decent amount of dirt on the track, and after getting walloped by a large piece of shale, I thought "sod this!!" and walked up the other end, where it WAS four or five deep, but banked and I'm quite tall, so I could still see. No way was there 5000 spectators there (it was 4000 at the maximum) - shame really because Matt Ford deserved a larger crowd after promoting this meetings so heavily. All the best Rob

lucifer sam
From Nicki Pedersen's website: Nicki opens 2008 with splendid victory 09-03-2008 With a perfect seasonopener by winning Pooles Diamond Jubilee, Nicki showed that he is in perfect form for the 2008-season. - Unless my first heat, I felt very good. There were some hard battles, but I think my very good starts meant the difference today, Nicki says. Right before the final, where Nicki beat Andreas Jonsson, Scott Nicholls and Leigh Adams, the four racers decided to split the 60.000 GBP into four equal portions. - I think it was the right decission to make. Now everybody are happy, Nicki says Oh dear. If I were Matt Ford, I'd be very, very angry about this. sancho
I'm sure MF & SS will put some sort of spin on this like it was already agreed months ago that this would be the case
SuzieQ
I really don't understand what all the whinging is about here! During the final, it seriously could have been anyone's race until Nicki swept ahead (as I think most expected him to do anyway!) but the other 3 it was a scare really, watching them come round the 1st/2nd bend side by side! To say that these boys were not going for it due to an agreement beforehand is stupid! Oh and on the other point! I called Bjarne a cheat to go back and swap his bike! Could see nothing wrong with the original start, with the exception that he totally missed the gate! Think later in the meeting I shouted something about Ebdon should just marry him and get this other with!!
Blazeaway
I'm with the number guy on this one. He has every right to feel cheated. He paid to see a final race with £60,000 going to the winner, but it now appears that prior to the start of the race the riders cut a deal where they each got £15,000. If I were Matt Ford I'd be furious. Totally agree. They could have at least kept it quiet. Unless of course such an option is stated in the supplementary regulations that have been given to the riders prior to the event. Just a thought... Or in true speedway tradition they made it up as they went along.
orion
Pretty shockin day all round a piss poor crowd watching gate and go racing for the so call richest race in speedway only to find that in the final riders had cut up the money so the race did not even matter . If this happen in any other sport that the sportsman were cutting deals before the start then would be kicked out of the sport ,people paid good money to watch that only to find that the final had been fixed . pedropete
3000 max if that I now know at least 10 in my crowd in the Reading area who did not go, put off at the prospect of travelling and not getting in. I would normally have had four travel, but only two of us went. My oldest son did not want to take the chance, especially after the ridiculous message that people were queueing from early morning. So pleased I ignored it. I arrived at 12.30 and got parked directly opposite the stadium in the bus lane, it was so quiet. I think whover posted this obviously misleading information cost Matt Ford a lot of cash. As I said last night, there was not even a queue to get in at 2 o clock. Steve Shovlar
There was certainly a queue when I posted it yesterday, and when I arrived at the stadium the queues were right across the car park from both entrances. If people were worried about getting in they should do what any normally sane person would have done. Phone the stadium. It seems certain speedway fans have a lower IQ than the average person. Talk about lack of intellengence and common sense from these people. Edited March 10, 2008 by Steve Shovlar
Hector
Exactly, if people were worried about not getting tickets why didn't they phone the stadium. I arrived just after 1pm, the stadium car park was full by then, the queue was a couple of hundred yards long, people were asking if anyone had any spare tickets. I would say it was easily 5000 people, especially with everyone crammed into the grandstand. The Daily Echo today says that it was a capacity 5,500 crowd. It's no surprise that the people who are slating this meeting on here are the usual Poole critics. Edited March 10, 2008 by Hector

MFE
What yesterdays meeting has done for me, is make me slightly more optimistic with regard to the season ahead! - If the worlds top riders racing for 60k could between them only produce one race worthy of note, then perhaps we should not be too worried about our weakened product in the Elite League this year, they certainly cannot do much worse, there seemed to be a lack of urgency from some of the riders! Nice to see the prize pot shared amongst the finalists, although i accept it may have taken the edge off that final race! I hestitate to comment on the track because apparantly there was a day long deluge the day before, but really the track only needed to be 5 feet wide, because there was only one line and the rider off Gate 3 was normally the one to benefit! Any rider trying the wide line was left for dead which was a great pity, and turned it into a gaters paradise. This was a meeting for the enthusiast, cold and windy, it certainly blew away the winter cobwebs, no wonder Matt Ford said he was glad this was over, and could now concentrate on the league! Great to see Dave Lanning back on the Mic! and the wonderful reception given to Kristof Ciegelski (is that how you spell his name, probably not)!! Anyway, nice to have Speedway on March 9th, congrats to Poole on their 60th Anniversary, however, I doubt whether the sport will exist in another 60 years the way most of the current incumbents are promoting our favourite pastime. Finally, a round of applause for "Car Heating Systems" rarely have i been so grateful to get back into the Car, and for Mr Ebdon for pushing the meeting along, in his normal fashion! Concrete Cowboy
Judging from the youtube video of the final heat showing the crowd around the stadium then either a) there was nowhere near full capacity, or b ) the back row of the stand had a wardrobe with "this way to Narnia" written on it and due to the reported processional racing half the crowd had gone to explore it. Paddy The Rebel
Stressful! The meeting killed the server with over 600 people all pressing refresh at the same time! We broke all the site records for views, numbers on the site, numbers viewing a meeting etc, the proboards guys have said they received more hits in 3 hours yesterday than they had for the previous 24hours. All waiting on my texts makes a change , i should have kept everyone waiting in the last heat, but i wasnt that cruel
Ray Rocket
If the actual paying numbers were 3,000, does this mean it was a financial disaster? And if so, who has lost out, Mat Ford himself?
