Announcing Ryanair’s 25th base in Birmingham, Michael O’Leary said:

“The people of Birmingham have been woefully underserved and overcharged by British Airways and Flybe’s high fares for years. Ryanair’s new base will smash this high fare stranglehold by delivering savings of £130m next year for Birmingham’s passengers / visitors.

“Direct international routes are fundamental to the economic development of a city like Birmingham and the people of the West Midlands can now look forward to Europe’s guaranteed lowest fares and best punctuality on 22 international routes with Ryanair. This route count will more than double as a result of Ryanair’s $700m investment in Birmingham, bringing with it a significant increase in European visitors and jobs for the West Midlands

“To celebrate the launch of our new base, we are offering all passengers who buy a return flight on any route from Birmingham (before midnight on Thursday) a free bonus flight, (no taxes, no fees and no charges*) for travel in February to Dublin or Shannon from Birmingham. This special offer must end midnight Thursday so we advise passengers to book their bargain seats today on www.ryanair.com”.

Still trying to get more information on this. Even Daddyfairy didnt know to much about it. :o

I have already booked from Stansted but may be worth considering cancelling, taking the cancel fee and re-booking from Birmingham IF the deals are good.

Just done some playing and it would seem they are operating on Monday and Fridays only.

Outbound to Bydgoszcz 6pm departure

Return to BHX - 21:35 departure

So fly out on Friday 12th and Return Monday 15th = £48.45

So long as you dont mind arriving in Poland around 9pm and back in Blighty at 11pm - sounds good to me :D

Does anyone out there understand the tax they charge? It always seems like a random amount to me! Outbound the tax is more than he flight, but coming back, the tax is about 66% the cost of the flight which is already cheaper than the outbound flight

Amazing how a £20 and a £15 flight comes to £70  Thank God Tescos don't work this way :D Now need to find somewhere good to stay, any tips?

I am led to believe that the airport tax charges differ from airport to airport & is what the respective airlines are charged to have their planes/service at a particular airport by the airport.

This is why the tax is different each way so Birmingham will charge Ryan air one charge (ie the £20 odd pounds) & Bydgoszcz will charge Ryanair a different amount.

I know East Midlands airport tax is cheaper than Manchester (& Birmingham by the looks of it) for example.

I think that is right anyway, but all airports seem different & is why some cheap flights aren't so cheap when you go through to try & book a flight!
