mark cox
I was in the area yesterday so I visited the hallowed ground... The site has been fenced off, the earth levelled and a poxy little site hut with a sales rep has been installed. With all that earth movement it would be a great shame if it triggered some subsidence on the site and all the houses, sorry brick sheds fall into a big fecking hole sometime in the future! Well it happened to the cricket ground... This so called reputable national housing company actually has a HQ in Halesowen, ( a mere 3 miles away) so its not as though that didn't know they were causing a significant loss to the local community. Anyway, cheers Dudley Wood for some fantastic years.... A couple of league championships, loadsa cups, five world champions, fantastic racing and some brilliant pork sarnies! When Dudley council actually backs up its 'sympathetic' words with some real action, we WILL return! Keep the faith!!
Liontamer
Nice one Barratts, may all your overpriced cardboard boxs rot in Hell.
britneyspears
My sentiments exactly mate
salty
Much as I hate Barratts at least they are in the business of building cheap, badly constructed houses, so I can see the logic of them building on the Wood. But I can't forgive the incompetent/corrupt planning inspector who gave them the go ahead in the first place.(overiding at a stroke all the other previous planning decisions). May he rot. howling gorgon
Sad sad loss, the thing I miss most from times gone by Cov/Cradley majic times!!
sjw ministerofport
This bloke from Dudley dies and goes to the gates of heaven, the angel is there at the gates , "who you are you "? "I'm Steve from Dudley" "Where's Dudley,"?" is it near Cradley speedway"" yeah just up the road". No offence ment to anyone from Dudley, the point is even though Cradley Speedway is finished but it made Cradley famous. I bet if you if you asked people abroad if they had heard of Cradley speedway , or merry hill shopping centre, you would probably get more yeses for the speedway. Lots of houses no entertainment boring Dudley council.
stevehone
as an ex-Wimbledon supporter i miss my trips up to Cradley... now if only we could have scored more than 25 points once in a while...
salty
Steve As a Cradley supporter who lived in London and went to Plough Lane throughout the 80's I seem to remember the Dons being the first team to win at Dudley Wood for donkeys some time during the 80's. Must have been 1984 I think.
stevehone
lol...'84 was when i stopped following them round the country due to starting to ride myself that year... call that 'sod's law'
mark cox
It was definately around that time. I think it was in that meeting that the legendary Phil Collins, in one race missed the gate (surprisingly!) and over slid the first bend, and was behind the other 3 riders by a whole straight.... Amazingly he not only overhauled third place, but snatched second on the last bend, joining Big Al for a 'Wipe Out'! A truly brilliant race.... still bloody lost though! britneyspears
All very sad , but keep the faith. We WILL be back :!: I hope so some day 21ch, I lay my hat at coventry these days with the other 'beeathens' but a little part of my heart will always reside down dudley wood road , i was practically bought up at the place I am proud to say. My father first became 'involved' with cradley in 1977 by helping out Anders Mitchanek though he had been visiting the Heathens and the bees for some years before this, a year later he was introduced to a young american by the name of Penhall by Dan McCormack and the same favour was asked, this lead to him discovering his life work in speedway and our family business was born some years later. I look back on my memories of dudley wood with great fondness, from the golden hammer right through to the donkey derby ;-)
Liontamer
right through to the donkey derby ;-) I wasn't aware Jason Bunyan used to ride for them.
