Time For Ole Olsen To Leave The Grand Prixs?

HI JUST THOUGHT I WOULD START A TOPIC ON HERE TO HEAR EVERYONES THOUGHTS ON OLE OLSEN DOING THE TRACKS. I HAVE BEEN TO MANY OF THE GRAND PRIXS THIS SEASON AND THE TRACKS ARE FAR FAR TOO SLICK AND DOESNT SUPPLY US LOYAL PAYING FANS WITH TOP RACING WHICH IT SHOULD BE WITH THE TOP 16 RIDERS IN THE WORLD AND ALSO DOESNT GIVE THE RIDERS A FAIR CHANCE WITH TRACKS LIKE IN GERMANY JUST GATE AND GO. I DONT KNOW IF HE IS JUST SETTING THE TRACKS UP FOR THE DANES AS WE ALL KNOW THE DANES LOVE SLICK TRACKS (TAKING NOTHING AWAY FROM NICI HE DESERVED HIS TITLE THIS YEAR) OR IT SO THE SPONSORS LOGOS DONT GET TOO DIRTY ON THE FENCE I JUST CANT SEE WHY HE HAS TO DO IT WHEN HE COULD NOT TOUCH THE TRACK IN WROCLAW THIS SEASON CAUSE OF THE THUNDER STORMS IT MADE SOME REALLY EXCITING RACING CAUSE THERE SOME DIRT ON IT DONT KNOW WHAT EVERONE ELSES VIEWS ARE ON THIS SUBJECT BUT I THINK SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE OR ELSE PEOPLE WILL LOSE INTEREST IN THE GRAND PRIXS EVERYONE I SPOKE TO IN GERMANY AFTERWARDS SAID HOW BORING IT WAS AND EVEN SAM AND KELVIN SAID IT ON SKY

Christ! That's a bit of an eyeful. I tried to read it but it turned into a 3-D picture of a dog.

 

The racing in the GPs is normally pretty good to be fair.

I think Ole olsen does a good job most of the time, it must be difficult to create good tracks from scratch. Interesting to read in the Speedway Star that he thinks in the near future there will no longer be shale tracks but synthetic surfaces are the way forward

To be honest he takes a lot of stick but i doubt it can be easy doing these temporary tracks.As he was saying the moisture content is vital and in fairness these modern stadiums seem(ed) to have problems getting the grass to grow properly because of the strange micro-climate in a pretty well fully enclosed arena.Plus we hear about riders having trouble with set-ups because of cold/hot weather.The thing is it seemed like he got it perfect for the practice,but then on the day something went wrong.It is a learning curve and i guess he has more knowledge than anyone.If you get rid of Ole then the next person will be starting from scratch

The Czech and German meetings in particular were completely ruined by the track preparation, but there's no point ditching him unless we are guaranteed to get a better racing surface once he's gone. I think a more pertinent question would be to work out why the tracks seem to change so much between practice and the meeting itself? :unsure:

To be fair this seems to happen every year at the World Cup.

 

The track is set up one way for practice, and is then completely different for the actual meeting.

 

Can't remember the year, but when the World Cup Final was in the UK, the GB team asked for a grippy track, only to turn up for the Final and Ole had decreed firm & slick.

Not that for one second do I think he prefers them that way because that's how the Danes like it ;)

Don't forget Malilla Seb.1 of the best race tracks on the GP circuit totally ruined by Olsen's inept preparation.As for the difference you ask about,only 1 man can answer that & he never seems to does he. Who could do things better?`The Doc' at Wolves maybe,or Gerald Richter at Lakeside has improved that surface immensly this season,but then i've no knowledge of any curators in any other leagues apart from over here. :neutral:

I would think synthetic tracks will be even slicker!!! Why not just lay concrete??

 

Olsen's opinion on slick tracks? "It makes for better racing!" !!!! Racing? Riding a bike maybe, but definitely not better for racing!

Thought the racing was poor, although I must add, not for the lack of effort on behalf of the riders. Not sure who it was on Sky who said it, but they said that the riders had said the track was perfect on friday. They then went on to say that they had a relativley long time to get it to that stage but then after pratice they have a very short time to repair the track to get it to the same stage as the friday, the implication being that it is not achievable.

Looking back at the world cup and was it the Czechoslovakian GP to name but two some of the tracks have been dire. Is it a case that Ole takes the safe option and does what he appeared to do on Sat pack it so hard that the chances of it breaking up so badly that it becomes dangerous and then becomes a lottery for the riders are very low. Not sure what the total audience is, Sky and other feeds but I imagine the pressure on Ole is prety high so safe becomes the preferred option. But what the heck do I know.

If the one off tracks are so delicate why do they have to have a practice?

 

Everybody seems to agree that the track on Friday was very good. Why couldn't that have been the track for the GP itself?

 

All the riders would have the same advantage/disadvantage and the track laid during the week is not ripped apart on the Friday only to be repaired and packed down in 24 hours.

 

The riders often complain that the track at practice is very different to the meeting itself so why bother at all at any GP?

 

How about having a short practice session an hour or so before the meeting? Something for the waiting fans to enjoy and the riders can get an idea of the set ups required.

 

If they had this short session before the meeting, the riders would have a chance to ease any pre meeting nerves, the fans wouldn't have to endure some half baked pop group and best of all the usually processional first few races would be a thing of the past as the track would have been "broken in".
