moxey63
The 1977 yearbook - that should give you the answer.
KevH
The 1977 yearbook - that should give you the answer. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Trust me I've looked - unfortunately it doesn't list track records that year.
Joanne
Don't know the answer Kev, but did you know that on 14 May 75 there were 14873 spectators at Paisley Speedway, Festival of Paisley Trophy. 11873 spectators had free tickets. Double the amount of fans at Lakeside for Poole this year. And before you say about Lakeside being televised, so was Paisley's meeting
Paulco
Does anyone know the track record, holder and date set for Paisley when they closed at the end of 1976 please? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Canny remember that long ago Kev , but i'll try and find out . It was a big track so i'm thinking about 72 or 73 seconds . Got a feeling it wasn't a Paisley rider that held it though as they weren't very good . I'll have a hunt and see if i've any old programmes in the attic .
moxey63
I knew i'd find it... Just checked in the '77 yearbook, page 224, and discovered that Mike Fullerton was holder of Paisley track record. He clocked his time - 74.2 - on 28.8.76. The Paisley circuit was 391 metres. Anything else I can assist you with, Kev...

Apparently the powers that be had decided that the track wasn't wide enough - hence Neil's nifty spadework! dantodan
Does anyone want to help create a Paisley page on my www.defunctspeedway.co.uk website? Pictures and views and a bit of history?

The track width was again the concern on said home straight, and Neil McFarlane produced a tape measure to prove beyond doubt that the track was the minimum required width, and this was accepted albeit reluctantly by the riders and officials... It later emerged that Neil had cut about 3 feet out of the tape measure before re-joining it so that the track looked legal

tigerbrandcoffee
i know he wasnt everyones cup of tea but i liked neil mcfarlane wish we had a few promoters like him around nowadays <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I liked Neil's style a lot. It's no co-incidence he was around during Tigers' most successful spell in their history. True he did drop Steve Lawson when he was struggling and that put a lot of red 'n' white noses out of joint but for me, he cleared that slate by getting shot of Kenny McKinna in favour of the infinitely more entertaining (on and off the track) Mark Courtney. It's a shame those crowd figures didn't continue though as Paisley only lasted two seasons. Canny remember that long ago Kev , but i'll try and find out . colin poole
I spoke to Fully about the track record & he reckons it was one of the last meetings at Paisley, which is why he is still the proud owner. He is geting ready to ride in the NZ vets championship this year. Larry Ross Mitch Shirra and David Bargh are also taking part Still has the speedway bug big time Cheers Colin Edited November 3, 2007 by colin poole
