In fairness, a few more might take a punt on the day, but has there been anything in the way of local promotion? At the few GPs I've been to, you could be in town and be completely unaware that anything was going on.

If there has been no local promotion, they are total idiots. This area of Germany is mad for sport. Missing the boat.

Ironically, Prague is the only place I've actually witnessed promotion in the town/city centre prior to a meeting!

Do the locals actually go anywhere near the centre of Prague? It's a tourist area, not much there for the locals TBH.

Cardiff has posters and banners, in fact I have a post from most of the GP's at Cardiff. Agree the Prague posters are far more impressive (and bigger) though, I did have one of them but left it in uni :(

any reason for that? i saw it too, but it just said he's pulled out...

Hampel's not riding tomorrow and it's been known for a few days..

He's got serious problems with his previously injured hand and he even pulled out from the Polish league final last Sunday.

Well if that is true and I hope not - does this now mean one of the reserves will take the ride. surel too late to call another rider in.

No it was announced a couple of days ago that Laukkenen was in, if it wasn't I'm pretty sure Charlie Gjedde could get himself there if Kaj was unavailable.

Obviously, there will indeed be more on the day. However, it's clearly a poor base to start from.

Also, the very first thought that came into my mind was the stunning lack of (effective) local promotion at all GP's over the years. That along with the pricing of the tickets always scythes the indigenous attendance. The Prague GP in particular, is seen as an annual strange 'circus' rolling into town with it's accompanying crowd consisting of 90% non-locals.

When i refer to the lack of local promotion, i am more than anything referring to the media. Newspapers, television, radio and magazines etc.

I have just done - as i do with all GP's - trawled through Google (.de) etc. for local (and national) news and sport sources for mention of speedway in Gelsenkirchen. Be it Wales, Germany or wherever, paltry mention is all one gets.

The German GP is a non-event, even within it's local area. Hopefully, that is just according to the media interest???. Although, a pitiful base of 15,000 tickets pre-sold is pretty ominous.
