colincooke
In terms of the crap track and racing I cant believe nobody as mentioned the Ole Olsen interview in the Speedway Star last week. The focus of the interview was on how far the sport has come since the first SGP ... how the sport has developed and that now the man made tracks have been developed the next revolution shall be a new track surface ....  "If we can make a new surface for speedway, as soon as we do that it will be a big leap. I still believe there's a way to have more consistent and even surface. You wont have the risk of dust and things like that. You wont need to worry about watering. We will be cleaner, able to ride in all weather conditions and we will open up all sorts of new venues where the staiums dont have to worry about cleaning up"  "Within the next 5 years , I can see this happening ....... it wont be dirt it will be something different .."  You see it is the fans fault why this is being considered all of you out there that has spoken to ole Olsen you are to blame !!!!!!   "I like to talk to fans and I ask did you see all the spray from the back wheels and they say no, I didn't notice. They dont look at the spray they look for close racing, riders passing each other, the excitement."  "Three things are important in speedway : the noise, the smell and the action - the overtaking, the close racing, riders passing each other. You cant take those things away , you cant take away the olour, the action but YOU CAN TAKE AWAY THE DIRT" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've just read this in full after seeing your post Hackett & i'm absolutely appalled by Olsen's suggestion.Does he not understand that the shale is what makes Speedway the sport it is.The man is a 3 time World Champion with nearly 20 years racing experience for god's sake. Did that not teach him anything?.You take away the dirt ,you take away the sport as we know it & riders &supporters alike should campaign against this idea cos beleive me, from reading that article Olsen is serious.Do we want to see an end to speedway as we know it?. Do the riders want to see an end to speedway aswe know it ?.I think we'd all agree the answer is NO on both counts. Beeone
Reading reports from German media suggests 25,000. Â They also mention how quiet the spectators were. Do they not realise they were most likely asleep?. That rumbling they heard was not the engines, it was mass snoring. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't agree more. Spent a fortune on tickets, travel and hotel, the flights and the hotel were fine and we had a great view of the track (except that we could not see gate four which didn't matter because no one made a decent start from there anyway). The real problem was that we had turned up to see RACING not a series of one minute processions! Interesting to hear about the race off incident which we did not see, for the first time in my life I actually left a speedway meeting before the end, I was simply bored stiff as was my other half and our travelling companions. It must be time to abandon these one off tracks and run all the GPs on real racing tracks where the staff produce decent surfaces week in week out. Yes including Cardiff! I have had some great Weekends there but the racing is usually rubbish unless the track disintegrates. I for one will not be in Germany for any more of that rubbish! Had a nice time in Essen though nice city, nice people.
Gemini
It must be time to abandon these one off tracks and run all the GPs on real racing tracks where the staff produce decent surfaces week in week out. The problem being of course that the usual track staff don't get to prepare the track do they? It's prepared how Ole Olsen wants it....slick. CaptainMarvel
finally back on a PC  Great few days had in Germany, and a perfect end to the GP season.  Yes the racing was poor but the people around me made it worth the journey, was delighted to see my cheap tickets gave me a seat and a fantastic view  Great win for AJ Scott gets in the top 8, Harris will get a wild card = Happy days are here again

Also, we can not go backwards. Cardiff should never be removed from the calendar and if I travel to Europe and spend lots of money on GP's then I want a guarantee that they are on ie in stadiums with roofs! I agree though that tracks need to be improved.

wjasica
[i with lots of fellow Poles coming out of the stadium on Saturday were complaining about the track and the poor racing ( If that was what you could call it) The PA system was useless, only could hear anything by heat 19. Getting into the stadium was a nightmare, and then the stewards who were checking you looked like OAP's. Lots of us were complaining that we had paid over the odds for our seats, when their were far cheaper ones available. We all bought into the idea of the 100th GP and the prize money would provide for a exiting finale to the GP season. How wrong we were, yes it was mainly down to the poor showing of TG, etc. How long before we get fed up with the way Olsen keeps doing the tracks and producing boring racking, but clean advertising. I will certainly think about what GP's I will attend next year.

The PA worked very well where I was and I was frisked by a very nice young German girl on the way into the stadium. All very enjoyable! tone deaf
Rubbish track, no atmosphere, getting into the stadium was a shambles, nothing outside the stadium for the thousands who arrived early (& the beer stall ran out of beer!). Â Apart from that I had a great weekend in Dusseldorf & Essen, German hospitality was good, public transport could teach Britain loads & the local beer was lovely (apart from when I spilled it in my lap & looked like I'd peed myself!). Â I thought it was quite funny to see AJ turn up in McDonalds Essen after the meeting. Maybe he'd promised his team that he'd treat them to a meal if he won the $100k! Entry via the Victoria entrance was pretty chaotic my wife was relieved of two litres of water and i was allowed to bring through a glass jar of Turkish tea compound. I flew the Scottish Saltire over the bike checking area, but i guess no one paid much attention.
