Conkers
iris123 Posted Yesterday, 11:58 AM Took a peek at the Bahnsport-Aktuell in town and the latest news there is that Sven Holsteins little sister(15 or 16 years old)Jordine(?) is planning on taking up the sport.Their father(who says the Sidecar team is struggling for finances)says a young woman in the sport should have sponsors lining up to sponsor her If she is half as good as her brother she should be a really good rider in two or three years. Look out Johnny Tuinstra!
The Cat
For the Berlin meeting, what times are they likely to start on both days and how long do they last. Also what part of Berlin is it in. How far is it from the centre and how far from Berlin Sch airport. Is the atmosphere good at Berlin? Conkers
Sorry for the late reply - not been on the forum for a few days. The ice racing is at the Wilmersdorf Ice Stadium, next to Hohenzollerndamm S-Bahn station (well the other side of the ring road to it, but about 100 yds walk). From Schonefeld it's 47 minutes on the trains. (Take the S9 to Spandau, then get off at Baumschulenweg, then take the S46 to Westend, and get off at Hohenzollerndamm). The public transport is very good in Berlin. If you have a Smart phone, I recommend a little application on my phone called Metro which has almost every Tram/Train/Bus route for loads of cities, including Berlin, and is usually correct in it's timings and routes. Invaluble when traveling. (Get it HERE) Racing starts at 5pm on Saturday, and is over by 8-ish, then Sunday starts at 1.30pm and is over by 4.30-ish (if this is wrong no doubt someone will kindly correct the times) There is a good atmosphere at the stadium, but only the home straight is under cover, so waterproofs and a good brolly are recommended. The atmosphere is good, but personally I prefer Assen for that, although the racing in Berlin is excellent. And you get to see the World Champion crowned. Last year was a great meeting, especially the Sunday where the result was decided in the A Final and then we had a run off! I'm sure Wolfslayer and co can answer better as they are Berlin regulars, whilst I've only been three times to this venue in 20 odd years, although I'll be there come March. As Conker's said the airport is about 50 minutes from the centre on the local, 35 on the straight through. The Stadium is a steady 45mins stroll from the centre. We have an hotel on the Kurfurstendamm which is about 30 mins away. There are buses, underground and trains which all use the same ticket, last year about 2 euro's for any 2 hour journey and about 8 euro' for a day's unlimited travel. If you want any further info just ask

Hill St Blue
Hi, I was wondering whether anyone could offer me advice on hotel accomidation for the Ice racing final in Assen. I want to try and take some friends to the final so I will need a good standard hotel to keep them happy. Is it better to stay in Assen or Gronigen, whats the night life like? any hints will be welcome. Thanks' <{POST_SNAPBACK}> EuroRider are running their annual tour to the Ice Speedway finals in Assen ( and considerably cheaper than the other speedway tour operator) Details on the website www.eurorider.co.uk or e mail mail@eurorider.co.uk

Do you order them in advance or on the gate? what are the prices? Is there a best place to be? Really looking forward to this now! Many thanks again for your help

GARY POPPS
Has anybody ever travelled to Saransk independently? I,ve done it with a tour company but wondered if it is possible to arrange it yourself. Any advice?
toonarmy084
It is possible but its safer if you fly to moscow then take the train to Saransk you will need to get a visa from the russian embassy in london, pm me if you need to know more. iris123
Anyone give me the lowdown on Östermalms?Thinking of maybe going as the flights are pretty cheap with Ryanair. Is it an artificial ice track?Don't want to get there and find the meeting is cancelled because of warm weather
Conkers
Ah-ha! Back on line after three weeks off because Orange decided to cut me off! I was talking to Roger Newton recently and he tells me that the British place in the World Championship Qualifiers is the Saalfelden Round in January. He also says that it is looking like the end of November for the Brits to practice, but I'm sure Malcolm can let us know the exact dates. If you are looking at Hotels in Berlin, I have booked into the Winters Hotel opposite the Stadium again, and it looks like they aren't filling up rapidly this year if you are after accommodation. Anyone know much about accommodation in Saalfelden BTW?

It's artifical I guess... It's not on a lake?
