So it looks like Johnny will be the Wild Card for Assen then.

Interesting that both the riders who do Speedway and Ice Racing (Danil Ivanov/Grigory Laguta) have both gone through.

I told you last week that we are rubbish at this predictions lark, but would you listen? :D:D:D

Surprised no Stefan Pletschacher after this weekends performance, but there you go.Bring the youngsters on

f-s-p Posted Today, 07:18 PM

Joni Kontoniemi scored 4 points in his second ice racing meeting, ever, in Saalfelden

I think that counts as quite an achievement considering that there were so many more experienced riders there.

Have you spoken to Aakko yet? Hoping that his reserve spot will be as productive as last year?

The cheap bugger that I am I'm waiting for next weekend for the Finnish final where I'll see people worth 6 pages....

I heard that the fall he took... He gated in to the lead, hit something in the track, bike jumped and that was it. It was his easiest heat on saturday.

Tschatschin qualified for Inzell in just his second meeting back in 2005.Although then there were quali's before the semi's.Plus i don't think Max Niedermaier had much more than that(if any more)when he qualified for the GPs last year

Thanks guys and thanks to Mark for agreeing to it and for the great answers :D

Even i am a bit stunned at how long it takes to do a back tyre :o

See the heat details from Saalfelden.Franky had a big crash in his first heat. Then won his other 4 heats plus the run-off on his reserve bike!

This is the only round of the Golden Spike in 2008, after Erfurt is off, and the St. Johann and Steingaden clubs decided against running it, prefering to run their own meetings.

I talked with Matti Pöysä yesterday, he was the referee in the Russian ice racing final. He said said it was the toughest meeting he'd ever seen. With a couple of weaker riders still there was racing like never before. Referring to a statistics book from last year he said there was 77 riders listed for 2007 and on top of that there was 52 junior riders in Russia. All in all they had around 35 meetings combined last season. Thats number of total meetings, not something one rider could ride in. This means that for this seasons qualifiers, not everyone got to ride.

After the meeting riders that had qualified for next weekends qualifiers packed their cars and started heading towards Europe... The one's qualified for Sweden had to be there by thursday... B)

Poland achieves a similar qualifying system to this in speedway. The rest of us are so far off... I could be lying if I said Finland has 70+ track racing license holders all together. Thats 80cc, ice, longtrack and speedway combined.

Didn't you see the second day online f-s-p.That was a cracking meeting with at least 4 fantastic heats plus an amazing bit of skill from Bulankin. If day one was as good then it really must have been a super weekend. There was a preview on bashinform.ru that said it was just about the hardest meeting of the season. No easy heats or opponents. And the way the weather is going this side of the continent and the professionalism that Togliatti seem to be bringing to both speedway and iceracing it could be tougher in future for western riders to compete with the Russians.I guess the only hope is that more money and clubs follow Togliatti and maybe, just maybe a few western riders could get a team place somewhere in Russia
