Well, with the Santa Cup provisional dates announced a couple of weeks ago, (see here), I've been given the date for Inzell, who have taken the qualifying round 3 over the weekend of 25-27/1/2008.

Full details are shown onInzell's home page.

2008 World Individual Ice Racing Championship - 2008 provisional calendar.

13/01 Saalfelden-AUT (Qualif. 1)

13/01 tba (Qualif. 2)

226-27/01 Inzell-GER (Qualif. 3)

23-24/02 tba-RUS (Final 1)

08-09/03 Assen-NED (Final 2)

15-16/03 Berlin Wilmersdorf-GER (Final3)

Team Final: 02-03/02 tba-RUS (although the calendar says 2nd/3rd which is Sunday/Moday - FIM appear to have forgotten it was a leap year!)

Assen will stage a meeting on the 7th March, whilst Berlin may well stage the German championship prior to the World Championship (I believe Iris123 thinks it may be the Thursday before - 13th/3)

The Golden Spike series is still up in the air, although I was told that the Sanok Cup in Poland will be ran again, as it went down well. No dates as yet for any of them, unless someone can assist?

Blimey Conkers, that time of year already? :(:D

Just a guess on my part with the German Championships. That is what they did a few years back.Thursday German Champs, friday GP practice,Sat/sun GPs.Not even sure if Berlin will host the meeting, just think it is their turn if they want it.

Also read some interesting changes in Russia have taken place at their conference.Seems Togliatti are entering into the league and will be hosting some meetings. Can't remember it all,but there was the usual politics going on(sounded like lots of arguing) and club(s) getting kicked out so others can come in.Others not turning up to the conference

No, it's not that time yet! You two dont even have winter and we still have temp's over +20 C over here and speedway season in full swing!

Finland has a provisional date for a qualifier, but I dont know what happens with it. Oulu has the Finnish final to stage from last season and Kuusankoski had it last time (but I think they are the only one's who could do it). Seinäjoki has some plans to have a meeting on a speed skating track but thats only hearsay. I guess I'll know more in a month...

According to the Russian forum the Russian GPs will be at Saransk 23/24.02

But i have seen that the European Championship will be held in Poland!

26/27.01.Maybe this will be instead of the Sanok Cup?

And further to the Russian politics i mentioned it seems that the decision to fold the Kamensk-Uralsk club(the second best at least with the Ivanov + Khomitsevitch bros) was made on the 2nd August. :o

Seems the big wigs in Moscow are being blamed. But this might be linked with Togliatti moving into Ice racing. They are the big club in speedway and do have good sponsorship, which is missing in Russian Ice speedway so it seems from the forum.

I didn't see anything about that on the UEM site - mind you it's not been updated for some time by the look - plus they still have the speedway pics reversed, and show a "Telford-style" pic for the Ice Racing.

From what I was told, the Poles want to expand the Ice racing, beyond Sanock, and bringing their own guys through. They don't want a repeat of the last attempt to kick start the sport there.

If you remember 1995, they hosted two rounds of the Ice GP, but they granted Russians Juri and Sergei Ivanov Polish licences, which I understand went down like a lead balloon. It probably stalled Ice Racing in Poland for some time.

In Assen they had two Polish guys (have a look)who looked older than Posa on the Friday, riding a ridgid framed Russian museum piece (pic here ). They tried hard but as Roger Newton (British Ice Racer) pointed out to me, they tried hard with the outdated machinery. Without a rear spring, those ruts in the Ice are murder on the testicles :D

As for the winter not arriving yet FSP - Buxton was allegedly like the arctic Sunday :D

Hi, I was wondering whether anyone could offer me advice on hotel accomidation for the Ice racing final in Assen. I want to try and take some friends to the final so I will need a good standard hotel to keep them happy. Is it better to stay in Assen or Gronigen, whats the night life like? any hints will be welcome. Thanks'

Assen gets booked up quickly, but there are several hotels in Groningen which is about 30 mins up the road, and if you want nightlife, then you should stay there.

Most of the tours have hotels block booked, but there are several in Groninen and in the surrounding areas.

If you contact the VVV in Assen, they do have English speakers who can help you, or have a look at Groningen Hotels here.

Tickets for the meeting are available on the day if you want standing, but the seats sell out fast but you can e-mail for Assen Tickets on tickets@ijsspeedway-assen.nl

If you need any other help please feel free to PM me,

Groningen has superb nightlife with an incredible array of bars. The thing I would say is don't expect things to start livening up much before midnight, and conversely don't expect it to wind down much before 4 - I can assure you that you will never have seen so many people on the streets at 4 in the morning as you will here. The good news is that the Febo is still open at that time so a portion of Fries & Mayonnaise is easily obtained

A really good standard hotel in the middle of Groningen, about 2 minutes walk from the very centre of Groningen, Grote Markt, is the Best Western Cityhotel. This hotel is immediately opposite the casino. Its a very modern hotel, with very friendly staff and their own secure parking (if you ask for it). The rooms are of a very good standard We have stayed there several times now, and never fail to be disappointed

Seems at the big meeting earlier today in Ufa,Togliatti were not given permission to enter the league as no-one would relenquish their place.Togliatti were indeed claiming the Ivanov + Khomitsevitch bros in their squad. Not sure what happens now.

The big news from Russia today is that Nicolai Korneev(56 years old) is making a comeback after 20 years!?!?Now i am not sure on this.I guess this is the Russian rider who rode speedway in the 70s/80s.Can't remember him on ice though. It seems he thinks the riders today are doing things all wrong.Mmmmm not so sure on this

I'm glad you understood the Russian, as the translation site made reading it difficult. Mind you, the middle pic of the bloke in grey standing up - he is always in the Russian pit wherever they race and spanners for all the Russian World Champions, and the red haired man on his right (left in the pic) is Rais Mustafin.

Interesting that Valeri Ivanov appears to be considered as a trainer (maybe I misread it) as he was the only one of the three brothers (Juri & Sergei are his older brothers) never to be World Champion.

Doesn't Danil Ivanov ride for Togliatti on the shale? Maybe they might link up with Ufa to share the riders?

As for Korneev, maybe he sees Posa (60 in March) and Graham Halsall (not far behind) and thinks "Why not?"

Good luck to him!

Funny,he was the guy i recognised straight away as well :D He is the one i always see at the meetings along with another guy who wears a flat 1920s style flat cap and long coat.Looks a bit like a gangster. He was out on the Assen track telling them to sort some things out on the bend,i seem to remember.

My guess is that they will all be back at a resurected Kamensk club. The talk of their demise seems premature. The club is back(they have 2 sections up and running.....MotoX or something)but not an Ice Speedway section.Although that is expected to be organised soon-ish

The guy in the middle is the manager of Ufa (Bashkortostan) but i cant think of his name at the moment and the guy that is always with him with the flat hat and long jacket is Ivan Borisov who is the trainer in Ufa. they have been with Nicoli Krasnikov for the last 4 years.

Can I get odds on him being world champion again? With ivan Ivanov and my good friend Bogdanov 2nd and 3rd? ;)

If Nikolai Krasnikov wins in 2008, he'll be the first rider since Sergei Tarabanko to win four on the trot (1975 - 78). Judging by his riding in Assen and Berlin this year you cannot write him off if he's in any of the A finals. Ivanov could be Champion, as he's aggressive enough, but Bogdanov? Great rider but compaired to Ivanov, Krasnikov and Khomitsevich, I think he's got his hands full with his fellow countrymen. I'd go for a top 3 which would include Ivan Ivanov, Vitali Khomitsevich and Krasnikov. Mind you, lets see which of the young Russians come through this season! Danil Ivanov and Dmitri Khomitsevich may be spoilers this year.

On a personal note, I'd like to see Franky Zorn fulfil his potential and win the World Championship, therefore losing the nickname we gave him last year (which he quite liked) "King Of The B Final"

Took a peek at the Bahnsport-Aktuell in town and the latest news there is that Sven Holsteins little sister(15 or 16 years old)Jordine(?) is planning on taking up the sport.Their father(who says the Sidecar team is struggling for finances)says a young woman in the sport should have sponsors lining up to sponsor her :D:D
