Guest stewart smith
My Grandfather was Ronald Hillary, who rode for Wembley and Belle Vue in the 1930's. I am trying to get a momento of his days as a rider, such as old magazines, programs, photos etc etc. Can anyone tell me where I can start looking for this ? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
miro
Hello Stewart Perhaps you could contact The Vintage Speedway Magazine Peter Lipscomb, 1 London Road, Aston Clinton, Buckingshire, HP22 5HG Tel: 01296 630404 or The Speedway Researcher (magazine) c/o Graham Fraser 7 B Bruce Street Stirling FK8 1PD There is (or was) a collectors magazine too. Peter Lipscombe would almost certainly be able to tell you more about your grandfathers career, and the magazine has classified ads, the second as its title suggests is more concerned with research and information rather that artefacts. I think you will find it a challenge now to get material from the very early days, but there are collectors and a market out there so I would suggest you go direct to the specialist community... it might get you in touch with somebody - ? Good luck!

cyclone
Stenners 1950 has an article on BV since start, and list all riders who rode for the club up till then. Unfortunately your grandfather's name does not appear. Perhaps the researchers overlooked him, or perhaps Ronald Hillary rode at Hyde Road, but not in the team. Guest stewart smith
Many thanks for this. Most of his career was with Wembley Lions and apparently he only spent a very short spell at Belle Vue, so perhaps he never fully represented the club. I appreciate your help
