Anders
SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 12 Tuesday July 24th 2007 PREVIEW HAMMARBY (49) - DACKARNA (47) 1. Scott Nicholls, 2. Tomasz Gapinski, 3. Jesper B Jensen, 4. Joonas Kylmäkorpi, 5. Nicki Pedersen, 6. Kim Nilsson, 7. Martin Smolinski, (8. Robert Pettersson) 1. Fredrik Lindgren, 2. Charlie Gjedde, 3. Hans Andersen, 4. Peter Karlsson, 5. Andreas Jonsson, 6. Ricky Kling, 7. Emil Kramer, (8. Robin Törnqvist) The most interesting meeting, based on the current standing, is held in Stockholm. Third place Hammarby host league leading Dackarna. Both teams are at full strength, with Martin Smolinski at reserve for Hammarby instead of Adam Shields who has struggled for form this season. *-*-* MASARNAAVESTA (46) - ROSPIGGARNA (50) 1. Antonio Lindbäck, 2. Billy Hamill, 3. Dave Watt, 4. Ales Dryml, 5. Leigh Adams, 6. Simon Stead, 7. Linus Sundström, (8. Dennis Andersson) 1. Greg Hancock R/R, 2. Adrian Miedzinski, 3. Janusz Kolodziej, 4. Adam Skornicki, 5. Jonas Davidsson, 6. Travis McGowan, 7. Andreas Messing, (8. Jonas Messing) Greg Hancock crashed in Poland on Sunday and he will not start on Tuesday evening, but doubts are also in the home camp over the fitness of Antonio Lindbäck, he will practise during the day and decide if can race or not. Billy Hamill is back for MasarnaAvesta after several meetings on the sideline, and he has a point to prove. MasarnaAvesta, just outside of the Play Off, in seventh place have a crucial meeting tonight against fourth place Rospiggarna and a win in either direction can make or break MasarnaAvesta's season. *-*-* INDIANERNA (45) - SMEDERNA (50) 1. Magnus Zetterström, 2. Roman Povazhny, 3. Matej Ferjan, 4. Kaj Laukkanen, 5. Piotr Protasiewicz, 6. Henrik Gustafsson, 7. Simon Gustafsson, 8. Ludvig Lindgren) 1. Krzysztof Kasprzak, 2. Stefan Andersson, 3. Rory Schlein, 4. Krzysztof Buczkowski, 5. Wieslaw Jagus, 6. Morten Risager, 7. Linus Eklöf, (8. Robert Henderson) Two teams in the bottom of the standings are looking to get away from tenth place Kaparna. Indianerna have been struggling all season while Smederna can welcome back Krzysztof Buczkowski from injury and Stefan Andersson who missed the meeting against Elit Vetlanda due to illness. Smederna rode on the Kumla track when they visited the touring Kaparna side (and lost), so they have been there recently which surely should be an advantage in any case. If Krzysztof Kasprzak can re-produce the WTC form, Smederna could pull an upset in this one. *-*-* VÄSTERVIK (64) - KAPARNA (31) 1. Bjarne Pedersen, 2. Tomasz Chrzanowski, 3. Sebastian Ulamek, 4. Niels-Kristian Iversen, 5. Tomasz Gollob, 6. Chris Harris, 7. Viktor Bergström, (8. Sebastian Carlsson) 1. Chris Louis, 2. Rafal Szombierski, 3. Piotr Paluch, 4. Pawel Hlib, 5. Renat Gafurov, 6. Jeremia Thelaus, 7. Denis Gizatullin, (8. -) Billy Forsberg is missing from the Västervik squad but the remaining riders are available and against Kaparna, last in the standing, it should prove way too much for the away team. Kaparna are missing Dobrucki, Jansson and Nermark for some unexplained reasons, but Piotr Paluch makes his comeback after a long time on the sideline through injury. That won't be nearly enough to stop Västervik from hitting - at least - a mid-sixty score. *-*-* ELIT VETLANDA (54) - PIRATERNA (42) 1. Lee Richardson, 2. Karol Zabik, 3. Jaroslaw Hampel, 4. Tomasz Jedrzejak, 5. Rune Holta, 6. Thomas H Jonasson, 7. Lukasz Jankowski, (8. Niklas Larsson) 1. Kenneth Bjerre, 2. Michal Szczepaniak, 3. Grzegorz Walasek, 4. Mikael Max, 5. Ryan Sullivan, 6. Christian Ingesson, 7. Damian Balinski, (8. Tobias Ingesson) Piraterna, with four WTC finalists in the line-up, could prove a mouthful for the current champions. Elit Vetlanda must be considered favourites for this meeting but Damian Balinski at reserve will be a tough nut to crack for home reserves Jonasson/Jankowski, Balinski will score heavily and keep Piraterna in contention along with in-form riders such as Bjerre and Sullivan. A close meeting is to be expected, but Elit Vetlanda will probably (hopefully ) pull through. All meetings can - as always - be followed LIVE on www.speedway.nu from 19:00 on Tuesday evening. Vic Ridgeon
Hi Anders! Thanks for all this info! Try As I might, I struggle to follow the rider's individual scores from Sweden in the Speedway Star simply because it is a list of names and numbers with no heat results and no indication of where in the team each person is riding. So, perhaps you can help me out? I see that both Chris Harris and Damien Balinski are riding at positions which would be "reserve" in the British Elite League. Are they actually riding at reserve or is the Swedish structure different? Also, the teams seem much stronger in Sweden than GB. For example, the heatleaders at Wolverhampton are Peter Karlsson and Billy Hamill yet they are only second strings in Sweden! Again, is this correct or down to a different structure? Thanks

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Positions 6 and 7 are reserve positions in Sweden reserved for the riders with the lowest averages on the team, just as in GB. Who you put as heat leader or second string is optional in that it's not regulated by averages. I'm sure PK could still do the job, but Lindgren, Hans Andersen and Andreas Jonsson are the heat leaders for Dackarna tonight. Doesn't matter though, they'll still get a hammering

Vic Ridgeon
Thanks guys! The top fixture looks like a good match! So, am I to assume that if this is a league where riders of the standard of Simon Stead, Travis McGowan, Chris Harris and Damien Balinski are all reserves then it is much stronger than the British Elite or do I assume the presence of Adrian Miedzinski, Adam Skornicki, Krzysztof Buczkowski, Michal Szczepaniak in the main body of the teams (and I did not mean to pick on the Poles) means simply that different riders perform well in Sweden to Britain. Sorry, you must get asked stuff like this all the time but Swedish speedway is something I'm only just really getting into and it strikes me as a curious point! Also, off topic, is Ludvig Lindgren any good? I'm a Wolverhampton fan and we have (as you probably know) a habit of signing siblings (see Ermolenko and Karlsson)... A lot of the former but also a little of the latter. Yes the league is much stronger than the BEL, but there is also the case of riders performing differently in different countries. The poles are generally much better suited to Sweden than England for example. And ofcourse the brits are much better in Britain than they are in Sweden. David Howe for instance, who's going well for Wolverhampton was never good enough for Sweden, not even at reserve. Jonas Davidsson is a top heat leader over here, while he's a disaster in the BEL. So it goes both ways. But generally the Swedish EL is a much stronger league, apart from the bottom two or three teams who are weak. However, no BEL side of 2007 could compete in Sweden. They'd get murdered in almost every meeting.
Vic Ridgeon
Thanks Anders! Interesting stuff! So, as a Swedish EL novice, who should I support?! I saw a bloke in MASARNAAVESTA jacket at the Prague GP with it's cool logo but have no real affinity to them (maybe Billy Hamill but he is basically a Cradley Heath reject)! Especially since we have a logo like this: http://penzel.se/forum/images/dbbblue/logo.gif Billy H used to ride for smederna (for 15 seasons actually) but switched to Masarna for this season but things havent really improved for him so i guess that he soon is no longer good enough for the swedish league. MARK246
Ludvig Lindgren looks IMO a real good prospect.his ride when he lead Scott Nicholls (Indianerna V Hammerby) was exceptional for a rider of his age. But time will tell,it's hard to judge as Ghostwalker described, form in Sweden is different to the GB. Jagoda overtook Pepe on the finish and man was it nervous. Rory screwed up though in thr 14th heat apparently he used a wrong tireside or something like that resulting that the Indians got a 4-2 instead of a 3-3 and now was 4 ahead instead of 2. But the thanks to Buczek and Roo boy and the Jagodaamd KK we won. Buczek actually managed to take 10 points in his first meeting in sweden for almost 2 months (he has been injured). Anders
SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 12 Tuesday July 24th 2007 HAMMARBY - DACKARNA 49-47 (98-94) Attendence: 3125 For the second time this season, Hammarby recorded a 49-47 win against Dackarna. The home side opened up a ten points lead after only five heats, but Dackarna made some tactical changes to claw back into the meeting. They needed a 5-1 in the final heat to win but despite the fact that Lindgren passed Pedersen, it wasn't enough was Pedersen managed to keep Jonsson in third place for the win. However, Janusz Kolodziej and Adam Skornicki cooled off towards the end and Jonas Davidsson never got going at all while everyone contributed in the home side. MasarnaAvesta (home) 58 (104) 1. Schlein/Buczkowski took a maximum in the first nomination heat to tie the meeting, then Wieslaw Jagus passed Piotr Protasiewicz on the final bend in the final heat to win the meeting for Smederna. Hans was excluded and a 4-2 in Hammarby favour was awarded with Nicki getting the 3 points. Nicki remained on the track for about 5 mins and the ambulance was out to check on him. However, he then stood up and walked back to the pits and returned for the last heat decider. Made of steel, the wee man

Then i dont know what happened he scored very few points the following years probably beasue he turned up with engines only suitable for english tracks. A story that has been repeated several times for Smederna with David, Carl Stonehewer, Shaun tacey (actually he rode for T Bikab in Allsvenskan) and this year Andre Compton.
