Bombers V Spitfires

Recommended Posts

Last night, the Norfolk Arena hosted a 250cc Exhibition Match between the Bombers and the Spitfires, which left the locals saying "That was simply awesome" as they were leaving the stadium.

The Bombers had their backs to the wall against a very powerful Spitfires quartet, as a result of their No 1 and captain Matthew Allitt being the victim of a road accident earlier in the week, leaving him with a badly broken leg.

The result was taken right down to a last heat decider, with both sets of riders showing a maturity way beyond their years.

I for one hope that this becomes a regular thing at tracks around the country, then just maybe, we can witness the start of another British World Champion.

Well done lads, you were all brilliant.

Hi All

I was one of the proud parents who's boys rode at the Norfolk Arena at must admit that Maximum Lad Marc Owen was only head once all evening and that was in heat six when Rhys Naylor flew from the Gate whilst the only rider representing the Bombers Marc and Rhys had a fantastic tussle before Marc eventautly got in front on Lap three Rhys was not content to sit back and let him have it easy and made a last gasp charge to the finish line and there was not much to seperate the Duo as they crossed the finish Line. And would everyone note there were seven lads Who Gave there all please give them the credit they deserve.

Brendan Warvill (Ipswich)

Jake Knight (King's Lynn)

Ashley Morris (Wolverhampton)

Adam Portwood (Peterborough)

Dale Lamb (Edinburgh)

Marc Owen (Sittingbourne)

Rhys Naylor (Lakeside)

All who took part including parents wish to thank everybody who helped this event happen and a final mention Matty Allitt we missed you get well soon from us all :D:D

I to really enjoyed watching these lads and most where good but that Marc Owen was fantastic to watch. He could of probably scored more points than some of the Sheffield riders last night. He was full throttle into the turns, just brilliant. Defo one for the future.

How old is this lad?

I to was one of the proud dads whose lad (ashley) rode on saturday night and it was brilliant the lads were so nerves but they did a good job and these matches will only get better,we attended the power slid school at lynn the next day and the boys got better with every ride which goes to show the more they ride the better they get. SO IF POSSIBLE CAN YOU BUT PREASURE ON YOUR PROMOTER TO RUN ONE OF THESE MATCHES, I know the first thing the chapmans asked was when you lot coming back.

Hi my lad Adam also rode, what an amazing night for all the boys. Adam hadn't ridden for a while and agreed to ride without hesitation when he knew who was racing. The boys all gelled well and were all so nervous before the meeting, went out and raced each other than at the end of the night played football in the car park, then when it came to bedding down almost got kicked out of the van for 3 of the boys, Not a lot of sleep for me but a great night would do it all again. Would like to extend a big thank you to Tom Naylor and Gordon Owen for remembering Adam and inviting him to race he was thrilled. PLEASE PROMOTORS LETS DO THIS AGAIN AT YOUR TRACK. Best wishes to all riders and parents. Mark and Caroline :DB)

Yes my mate at Lynn was raving about Marc Owen from the other night, hopefully more of us will get to see him ride soon... B)

Less seriously, shouldn't these two teams change their names ?  :o  ;)

Quite agree Steve, the Bombers should become the Spitfires and vice versa

we have been watching the 250cc since the beginning, and after watching them on Friday night at Kings Lynn it was nice to see that all the boys getting on so well and improving. Some new faces as well which is always great to see. When will we be seeing the 7 of them again as a match?

We are proud parents of one of the boys that rode on Friday night. Firstly very sad that Mathew Allitt was unable to make the meeting. We are all thinking of you, so get well soon make a speedy recovery. Nice gesture the boys wanted to leave his place free as no-one would be able to fill his shoes.

A very big thankyou to all that helped to put the meeting together, parents for getting the boys together, track staff and all those who helped on the night as this would not have been possible without them. We had some great racing on the night considering over the last few months 4 of the riders had considered giving the speedway up. Now they know what team spirit is and true friends they are all determined to carry on and succeed.

Seeing the boys that spent the night in the car park enjoying a game of football at midnight. We have more of these planned, please support them and ask at your tracks if we could run one especially at weekends.

A big well done to the boys for making us ALL proud.

The main thing is that the 250's are being promoted, so well done to everyone involved. Lets hope that this helps to start the whole 250 thing off and more parents may consider buying 250's in the future. The whole idea of the 250 racing is a very good one and if it gets the support that is desrves then junior speedway racing may get back on track and produce some good riders for the future. So as a few have already said it needs more tracks to take this idea up.
