TwoMinuteWarning
Olly Allen called up. Press release: GREAT Britian boss Neil Middleditch has called up Olly Allen to replace David Howe in his World Cup squad. Howe has been forced to pull out of the competition after breaking a collarbone in Saturday's World Championship semi-final at Lonigo - ironically, which he was taking a reserve ride. The Wolverhampton man hopes to be back racing within a fortnight, but next week's events will come too soon for him. Howe said: "I was going well, leading the race, and then Lukas Dryml's wheel struck my clutch lever and wiped me out "It's so frustrating for me but my priority now is to get back as quickly as possible for Wolverhampton, I don't want to miss too many meetings for them. "I will listen to medical advice, but my target is to be back after the break for the world cup the week after next." Allen was tipped by several pundits to earn a place in the initial top six, taking into account the fact that Great Britain enter the competition at his home British track of Coventry - where he has picked up a number of high scores this season. bazaar3
So far Middlo has picked all the right riders for the job. Kennett was picked because riders like Howe and Allen can't even qualify from GP QR QF. As for Stead, he is lucky to have more experience abroad and he can overtake better than the other two. A shame Howe getting injured but Olly is the right replacement. Spot on again for Middlo and it's no wonder the riders have so much respect for him, though it's obvious certain baised fans don't. Yeah, because Eddie Kennett made us fans look bloody stupid tonight. Oh no, that was Middlo who was made to look stupid when the guy he has picked to ride in a World class meeting scored 3+1 at the track the meeting is taking place at. Dietbowers
i take it the first two qualify for something or other

No point using Allen. Rides their every week and scored 5 last night. Maybe we should put in Boxall who got 6.

SuzieQ
OK, all you Armchair Managers Who would you pick? The youngsters aren't good enough! The more experienced riders are past it! Neil proved in Denmark a couple of years ago that he can produce the fighting bulldog spirit from him team, the amount of people that laughed at him picking Floppy, Deano and Havvy, yet they all raised their game and did us proud! not quite good enough I'll grant you that but they did well! Hazzman
I'd still keep Kennett in - he has to learn someday. Put the legwork now and we might win a WTC in 3 to 5 years time. No need for a quickfix replacement.
leanne1706
I'd change Olly and Ed around - from what I've read on here, and from looking at last night's results, Olly deserved more than his 5 points... and the fact that he has scored more around Brandon on a regular basis proves that he can do it. Ed, on the other hand, seems to have a strong dislike for the Coventry track. I sincerely hope he does the business next Monday, but is he worth the risk when there is no evidence that he can ride this track?? Why not use Allen in this round, on his home track which he rides week in and week out... and if he doesn't perform then slot Kennett in. I don't think we're going to have any problems qualifying through this round, so give Olly a chance now and then, if Middlo is so intent on using him, put Kennett in for the final. BUT, if Olly does prove himself in this first round, then IMO he should be kept in the team.
Sir Jasper
To be honest I would probably go for Kennet still. After all I do not think there is anybody else who would do a better job, Olly after all has not made a jump up to a 6 or 7 point average yet (although injuries did not help), Ed will surely have a chat with Bomber and Scotty and hopefully he was watching them and others race last night. I admit his form around Brandon is a big concern but aside from Allen who else could we pick, Screen perhaps? yes he may score more around Brandon but Ed or others will never get the chance to learn. OK, all you Armchair Managers Who would you pick? Olly Allen, as I've been saying for weeks now. He may not have been great last night but he is a lot better than Ed at Coventry. I guess if we picked the best option form a point scoring POV it would probably be Chris Louis but I think we need a youngster in there who may just use the meeting to step up a level (a la Floppy). However, I'd definatly use Ed in Poland, no doubt about that.
Steve Turner
Presumably the track will be slicker than usual at Coventry, as is the norm in these events I think ? That will help Kennett obviously. And I'd rather Scott and Bomber didn't teach him the best way round Brandon, thankyou very much !
tilly
I must admit that I'm surprised to see Stead in the side for this one. I don't know too much about how he rides Brandon, but he's definitely not having a good season and his poor form clearly continued at the GP Qualifier at the weekend. At the risk of agreeing with stevebrum, I'd have opted for David Howe, with Olly deserving the reserve berth. I can't wait to see Rico on the big stage again either; Cardiff just wasn't the same without him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What do u mean it wasnt the same?! Chris Harris is much better, u wouldnt catch Rico or Scotty winning Cardiff. Chris suits cardiff better than any other english rider, think we can all see that

Harris was a 25-1 shot for Cardiff, and although he won, if it was expected that the track there would suit his style, his odds wouldn't have even been half that. Nonetheless he is having a brilliant season, and all credit to him for it; long may it continue. He's a born entertainer and we love watching him at Swindon, as I'm sure fans do all over the country. As for Rico, it's well known that he isn't the best-loved British rider out there, but he's in good form at present, and I'm sure will give a good account of himself at Brandon. It's also only 3 years since he was on the podium in Cardiff himself. Edited July 10, 2007 by Seb the Snail
